bdrak11 Posted September 2, 2005 Report Posted September 2, 2005 The story is long ill try and shorten it up. At pismo beach jumping my shee and lost the carb choke crossover tube. It stopped running that weekend. Took it home and pulled the vitos performance pistons out. The cylinders did not look bad, so i honed then out and put in a backup pair of wiseco pro lites. I cleaned everything, the carbs the intake, the cylinders, the airbox , everything. The bike will not rev out. It sounds like i am loosing the left cylinder all together at WOT. Tore it down a second time and rehoned. Same thing, except now at WOT when i put my hand in front of exhaust silencer, the left cylinder is spitting out and gas. Im mixed at38:1 with castrol 927, yea i know but i never had problems before. Ive tried diffent jetting solutions and no help, used the jetting choke trick and im now down from 310 mains to 270's, no help. Took it back to pismo to try and blow it out and the right cylinders running like a champ, the left is still caca. I think its the cylinder, so i bought a stock cylinder of ebay and im gonna bore it to .20 OS like the right and try it. Anyone have or had this problem before, or can you think of another solution. fast87 Posted September 3, 2005 Report Posted September 3, 2005 check for spark, it might sound crazy but i almost guarantee it's your problem...start with replacing both plugs, then move up to the spark plug wires, etc...swap parts with another friends shee if possible, also check your reeds they may be damaged..but i'm betting on spark, i had the same problem and it was too rich with my dial-a-jet and fouling only 1 plug.., good luck ~Mark~ Quote
bdrak11 Posted September 3, 2005 Author Report Posted September 3, 2005 Ive switched out plugs and no help. ive got two ther banshees in my garage and that was my next option, switching out coil, cdi ect. What perplexes me is that with my wifes banshee when it blew a piston all i had to do was hone and replace with wiseco, and it runs fantabulous, and mine just has so many problems. Anyone think using the b8res spark plug might have messed up my cdi. When i bought the bike, the guy told me to use one of them and i cant remember. Ive tried both br8es andb8es and it still runs crappy. Quote

This sounds like the problem I'm having right now with mine and I think it has to do with the carberation. I just cleaned out my left carb and knocked sometihng loose because it's now running worse than yesterday. Quote
bdrak11 Posted September 9, 2005 Author Report Posted September 9, 2005 Ive cleaned both carbs completely and no help. Anyone have any issues with v force reeds. What would be wrong with the reeds if they were the problem? Ill check it this weekend. Quote
eehsnab2 Posted September 9, 2005 Report Posted September 9, 2005 V-Force reeds are notrious for not sealing up very well. Make sure they are tight and have a good seal. Also check the reeds themselves. Did you try switchng the plug wires? Did the problem follow the wire? If so, it could also be your plug boot. Also pretty common to go out from time to time... Quote

Also make sure all gaskets are in the correct spot and facing the right direction......Trust me sounds dumb and illogical but that's what the cause of my airleak was.....Make sure your carbs boot screw is tight. 2twin350s Posted September 9, 2005 Report Posted September 9, 2005 sounds like you lost your left side crank seal. pull the stator cover off and grab the fly wheel and shake it up and down. if there is any movement you lost the crank bearing and seal. or start it with the stator cover off and listen for puffs behind the flywheel.dirt and dust probably got into the seal and wiped it out.if that is the case you might as well replace the crank too,the bearings will probably go next. bdrak11 Posted September 9, 2005 Author Report Posted September 9, 2005 Im sure that there is not an air leak in the intake or i would wind out as soon as it started. The crank sealsounds possible, but would that cause all the black crap to leak out of the exhaust port, where the exhaust and cylinder meet. My gut tells me that its the cylinder, and that its not sealing up and im getting blow by. Ive already bought a left cylinder, stock bore, off ebay and ill bore it out to .20 O/S where i need it. My othere hunch is that its the left carb. Even though ive blown it out completely like three times, theres got to be something Im loosing it man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love the shee but shes getting on my nerves Quote

I love the shee but shes getting on my nerves 413384[/snapback] just pull the stator cover. it takes like 5 minutes to check and is easier than pulling your carb off. the black stuff is unburnt fuel from the cylinder, due to incomplete combustine. the crank has to be sealed good to compress the fuel mixture. the bike is probably real hard to start when cold is it not?, if so that is becuase the choke draws its vacumn from the left side piston and crank. if you have a crank seal leaking, the choke will not operate correctly due to lack of vacumn. that is my opinion with out seeing for my self. bdrak11 Posted September 13, 2005 Author Report Posted September 13, 2005 I pulled the stator cover and when it started there was no puffs of air. Even poured a little water behind flywheel, no air. The fly wheel and bearing seem to be tight. I did a compression check and both are at 160, exactly. When i chage the spark plug wires the problem does not go the the right cylinder, it is only in the left. I am now thinking that i have a bad left carb. Its not electrical, no air leaks, compression is even on both sides. Biike still starts on first kick, but when i try and rev it up, its boggs and does not wind out. When the crossover choke tube fell off it must have sucked in some sand. Ive cleaned them several times. Its gotta be the v force reeds or carb. Gonna change them out tomorrow, carbs and reeds and try that. Quote
bdrak11 Posted September 13, 2005 Author Report Posted September 13, 2005 One more thing, are compression tests relaible or not. If they are even when im kicking it over does it mean that i do not have a cylinder issue. If im at normal compresion when im kicking it over COULD it have compression issues at high rpm? Quote

If so have you checked all TORS connections? Quote

ssanddemon Posted September 14, 2005 Report Posted September 14, 2005 (edited) Sounds like you haven't swapped carbs and reeds side to side yet. I would definitely do that before anything else. Plug the choke tubes and the carbs will work fine. Edit: My bike was running just like that this winter. Swapped EVERTHING side to side and rebuilt the top end, still ran like crap on the left. Desperation move was the stator side crank seal, fixed it. Edited September 14, 2005 by ssanddemon Quote
