ogre03 Posted July 27, 2005 Report Posted July 27, 2005 I've got a 03 banshee with the toomey t6 kit; pipes, filter, jets. I'm looking to squeeze some more power out of it, while keeping as much green in my wallet as possible. I ride a lot of trails, but I like to open it up now and then too. I also don't want to risk reliabillity. thanx for the help Quote
JARE77 Posted July 27, 2005 Report Posted July 27, 2005 V- force, flywheel lightend, adjustable timing plate, Noss head, Or just man up and get the thing ported! Quote
Holyman Posted July 27, 2005 Report Posted July 27, 2005 Start by tossing the stock air box and get clamp ons or a 2-1 filter. In fact wayfst has a set of clamp ons with outerwears for $35. Killer deal and your banshee will be able to breathe for a change. I think it's the best dollar for dollar mod to start with. Quote
locogato11283 Posted July 27, 2005 Report Posted July 27, 2005 woods port by eric gorr... www.eric-gorr.com get his number and call him. should run you about 250 bucks. very well worth the money... Quote
Ryda85 Posted July 27, 2005 Report Posted July 27, 2005 do an intake....while the intake is on order you could get a noss head, since the head is off you might as well just take off the jugs and send them to get ported....hey while your in there you should just do a rebuild, since you will have some extra power you should maybe also just do a clutch and lightened flywheel.....since the clutch and flywheel are removed its not that much harder to split the cases and do a stroker crank....while reassembling you really should do an impellor and maybe a timing plate for a little more power....maybe a new clutch basket while its off......great now you have a built engine but through stock carbs? you really might as well get some bigger ones....now you have a great solid stroker motor and your going to run stock suspension? better order some arms and shocks at least. removing the whole engine and suspension? might as well powdercoat the frame right? i dunno if its like this for every one but it was for me...i wanted to do some basic mods and i got hooked. i call it "The curse of the Banshee" Quote

Dude, you just wrote my life story of Banshees for the past 18 years... 16 shees and way freaking too much money spent... I cant do shit on a budget... Good Luck... YOURE THE MAN!!!! Quote
Rare Scottish Tree Badger Posted July 27, 2005 Report Posted July 27, 2005 Hey Ryda, I don't think you left him any green. Loose or modify the airbox lid, adjustable timing plate, reeds, and good jetting. ... It all depends what you've got in your wallet. The sky's the limit and then some! Rare. Quote
ogre03 Posted July 28, 2005 Author Report Posted July 28, 2005 My filter is a dual layer foam toomey clamp on with no intake box. From what I've read on here everyone is a big fan of porting, before reading these forums I thought porting was just for top end, I had no idea there were options with it. Maybe that's the way I'll go. I'm in Alaska though, and there's not much left of summer, so any kinda of engine work is going to wait for snow fall. Then I'll have all the time in the world. Quote

switchblade Posted July 28, 2005 Report Posted July 28, 2005 you can mod your stock reed cages. which just cost you a little time and a few gaskets. Go in with a dremil and smooth out all the casting marks and cut the u shape ends where the reed lye out to squares shapes so they have more space to breath. It should give you a few horse. You can find milled heads on ebay everyonce in a while the go pretty cheap, and you should be able to get your fly wheel lightened for any where form 50 to 100 bucks. I would ditch the foam filter too. I have seen dyno sheets the prove a k&n in the stock box with out a lid makes more hosrepower the k&n pods. I'm sure some people will argue with that. I'm just giveing my 2 cents. Quote
hittintrees srh Posted July 28, 2005 Report Posted July 28, 2005 Do a search.......... 397909[/snapback] I your too busy ho help, dont add a reply at all!! Just loose your air box and buy some pods, or even some reeds- neather are very spendy, but would give some nodicable power increases. Quote
Toomey Banshee Posted July 28, 2005 Report Posted July 28, 2005 Some quick and inexpensive mods are; go up a a tooth on the front sprocket, good rear tires, Razrs come to mind, advance your timing with an adjustable plate, lighten your flywheel, carbon fiber reeds and port your own reed cages, or just get some V-Force. After that, get er ported, buy some CPI's, Rockets or T-5's, get bigger carbs, yada, yada, yada. Rydas' post really hit home. Once you start you cant stop. Your shee will never be fast enough, quick enough or shiny enough. Welcome to our misery. Quote
ogre03 Posted July 30, 2005 Author Report Posted July 30, 2005 Thanks for the advice guys. Oh, just to make sure we are on the same page fancy stickers are good for 3 horses right? And if they have flames your looking at five? Quote
Rare Scottish Tree Badger Posted July 30, 2005 Report Posted July 30, 2005 Colored powerbands give you a few more ponies too. I hear that pink ones are the best. Rare. Quote
