racer714 Posted May 9, 2005 Report Posted May 9, 2005 is there any other "over the counter" oil I can use for gear oil changes besides the $$ shit??!! I currently use bel ray gear saver, but over $10 per oil change is getting too $ !! Quote
JeremyKS Posted May 9, 2005 Report Posted May 9, 2005 you can run cheap auto trans fluid...works great and lots cheaper Quote
RBD Posted May 9, 2005 Report Posted May 9, 2005 2 parts ATF, 1 part 10-40 motor oil. It works great! Quote
TREELIZARD Posted May 9, 2005 Report Posted May 9, 2005 Go to the auto parts store and buy 2 quarts of ATF type F and put the 2 quarts in. the little bit extra oil helps prevent the ball from welding it self to the push rod. dont just use regular tranny fluid it has to be ATF typeF. Quote
locogato11283 Posted May 9, 2005 Report Posted May 9, 2005 i use belray exl. its real cheap from rmatv. i buy a couple cases at a time. Quote
03bansheeLE Posted May 10, 2005 Report Posted May 10, 2005 how often do you guys change your tranny oil in your banshee? Quote
rebelbanshee2 Posted May 10, 2005 Report Posted May 10, 2005 TRACTOR HYDRALIC TRANSMISSION OIL!!!! I kid you not this stuff is incredible!! Holyman got me onto it. It costs 8 bucks for 2 gallons at walmart. It shifts as smooth as ATF does but lasts WAY longer than ATF. I could only get one weekend of hard riding out of ATF, with this stuff I go 3 weeks then change it because i feel bad not changing it. The stuff is thicker but has a really slippery feel...like snot. I slip my clutch alot and power shift all the time and this stuff befores better than ATF and the big dollar gear oils, trust me its the only way to go! Quote
ssanddemon Posted May 10, 2005 Report Posted May 10, 2005 I second the tractor oil. Like ATF, it is designed to be run with wet clutches, but it's a little thicker, and has better additives for the gear teeth.- Auto trannies have tiny teeth (planetaries) so they don't have real wear problems like trannies with the larger tooth surface area like the shee trans or any other manual trans for that matter. Plus it's cheap enough to be changed all the time. I think the guys spending big bux on their tranny oil are probably leaving it in for a long time, whereas the guys running the cheaper stuff cycle it often. It's kind of a judgement call since the shee trans is so tough. They don't break much no matter how you treat them. Quote
racer714 Posted May 10, 2005 Author Report Posted May 10, 2005 thanks guys, but tractor tranny fluid, at first I thought you guys were pulling my leg! This stuff is at walmart?? Who ever thought of trying that? Kinda makes me nervous Quote
rebelbanshee2 Posted May 10, 2005 Report Posted May 10, 2005 fear not I have been running this stuff for a year now with zero problems. Give it a try Quote
