ANGUS Posted April 27, 2005 Report Posted April 27, 2005 I am just starting to ride and need some info of helemts and boots in a cheap price range and good quality to start with. If I decide to really get into riding I will upgrade all of my stuff. I do not have a problem with that but I do not want to spend all of the money on something I will not keep around long. Now my car race helmet was expensive and NHRA approved but I also have had it for many years. It is worth the money I spent. Any brands I should get or stay away from. I appreciate any and all input... Quote

PUSH THE THROTTLE Posted April 27, 2005 Report Posted April 27, 2005 I wear an HJC helmet and like it. I plan to get Alpinestars boots when I get around to it. Make sure you try the helmet on and find one that Quote
ANGUS Posted April 27, 2005 Author Report Posted April 27, 2005 I have my R.M. catalog at home on the coffee table along with my Clymer banshee book! I definatley understand that protecting your head is priceless but a $400 helmet to a $200 helmet would still protect my head. So why pay for the $400 one because it has better graphics or a pro rider wears that type helmet. I am planning on going to the K's Yamaha right by my house Saturday to do some browsing and trying on to see what I like and then order from Rocky Mountain. Quote
fixitrod Posted April 27, 2005 Report Posted April 27, 2005 Get a helmet that fits YOU!!! Go try some on. Every brand feels different. Make sure it's sneel and dot certified. YOu don't want just trying to protect your head. Bell makes a good helmet for the money. As far as boots, to each their own. I seen an ad for ARC. They look like a cross between street bike boots and mx boots.. very nice. I have alpinestar only becasue I got them free... lol. Stiff bastards. Quote
crazyfzr1 Posted April 27, 2005 Report Posted April 27, 2005 Some of the increased price is lighter weight and better fit and finish... HJC is decent, Shoei too. Pirce wise and quality wise that is Try the helmet on...Many fit differently slightly different shapes inside Quote
sredish Posted April 27, 2005 Report Posted April 27, 2005 Hey man, I replied to your TexasATVs thread. Just thought I'd give ya a shout seein as we're both on this one as well... Quote
rjvoight Posted April 27, 2005 Report Posted April 27, 2005 The new Thor Quadrant boots are running about 130, they are great. Super comfortable and my old Thor boots have lasted for 3 seasons of MX and Dune riding. As to helmets, the HJC helmets are good. I would look at MSR, THOR and BELL Helmets as well. All three companies offer helmets in the low to mid 100s. Rock Mountain MC is the best way to go from my experiance. Welcome to the world of riding RJV Quote

ANGUS Posted April 27, 2005 Author Report Posted April 27, 2005 Thanks peeps! I am going to go do some fintments this weekend and then find the best price on what I choose. Quote
locogato11283 Posted April 28, 2005 Report Posted April 28, 2005 i paid 80 bucks for my fulmer helmet and like 230 or something for my tech 6's. i have had several pairs of boots and im sorry i wasted my time with them. Quote
Lepew Posted April 28, 2005 Report Posted April 28, 2005 I balanced price with quality. I shopped at all the local dealers before I bought. Boots and helmets need to be tried before you buy. I ended up with Thor boots but they're a little tall in the toe (hard to get under the shifter). Angus, you must be a cattle man. Not to stir to much, I have to give it to the angus breeders for such good marketing but have you researched what it takes for a steer to be "certified angus beef"? Most important it has to meet a grade standard, but it only has to be half black !!! Quote
SICK BOY Posted April 28, 2005 Report Posted April 28, 2005 (edited) I wore a Fox pro pilot helmet last year and thought it was too damn heavy.I bought a Thor helmet at the end of the season and it is awsome. As for boots get the best you can afford, but don't waste your time and money on the Oneal element boots.
