Bansheefan1980 Posted April 13, 2005 Report Posted April 13, 2005 Hi, I'm new, so pardon the lack of pictures and other cool stuff the veterans have. I have a question for y'all. What is a good price for a completely stock 1987 Banshee. I found one for $2800. At first blush it seems like a good price. The ad says it's completly stock. What are some of the things to look out for on an '87? Are the frames prone to cracking in particular spots? I've always heard the J-arms are also weak and prone to cracking, where are the weakest spots? NADA says a '87 in good condition is worth $1175. KBB says $1970. How can you really tell how much it's worth? Are the NADA and KBB prices accurate? Thanks in advance. Quote

Bansheefan1980 Posted April 15, 2005 Author Report Posted April 15, 2005 Where the heck is Frankenmuth? I appreciate all the feedback. I still have questions though. 1. Where are the weak spots on banshees? 2. Do these spots differ from year to year? 3. Are the J-arms really weaker than A-arms? 4. I live in Oregon, which has some of the best sand dunes in the U.S. Are Banshee more expensive here because there is higher demand? I've looked and looked. I've never seen an add in the paper or elsewhere for less than $2600. Granted E-bay has cheaper ones, but I'd rather be able to see it and hear it run before I send my money via paypal. Thanks again for all the feedback. Quote
stevo3176 Posted April 16, 2005 Report Posted April 16, 2005 A 1. Suspension dated in my opinion, heavy front end, no bottom end, date all together. 2. No j arms are the only really major differences btw years. 3. J arm s are terrible they are very weak I got hit by a 300ex (not too fast) and it twisted the j arn in half I was surprised how weak it was. 4. Not sure whay they are more expensive on the west coast but I think if you wait it out you will find a good deal. Ask around tell your buddies but don't by an 87 for more tha 1500 even if it is in really good shape. Quote
kenr74 Posted April 17, 2005 Report Posted April 17, 2005 $2600 is high for a bike that old but you won't find anything cheaper out here. Banshees are still going for big bucks in Oregon for some reason. You could probably pick up a better bike on ebay for the same $$ but then you have to ship it and you don't know what you will be getting. Check out sandlakeduners.com there are some Banshees for sale on there and they are all local. Quote

SICK BOY Posted April 18, 2005 Report Posted April 18, 2005 That price is quite high for a 87,check ebay, and you'll find much better deals. Quote

richwuest Posted April 18, 2005 Report Posted April 18, 2005 NADA and KBB don't mean all that much on Banshees. Just looking at the range between NADA and KBB prices can kind of tell you that. What the bike is worth depends quite a bit on what area you live in. In southern California, where I live, it is rare to see a Banshee of any year selling for less than $3K, unless it has problems. Sometimes one will pop up now and again for less, but in general, even old J arm bikes, if in proper working order still command 3 grand or a price very near that. You can often times buy a bike from here or off of Ebay for a low enough price to justify paying the $500-600 for shipping. It is just a bit of a gamble since you are purchasing it sight unseen.
