nightride Posted April 4, 2005 Report Posted April 4, 2005 I painted all my plastic before i went out riding this last time, it looked great at frist, but by the time i got home a lot of it had chipped away. so before i went out again i put about 4 coats on. it stayed a lot better, but pretty much the same result. is there a paint for plastics that is better than the rest or is there a coat that i should put on before the paint? if you guys have any answers for me then let me know - im lost Quote
XxMeltIcexX Posted April 5, 2005 Report Posted April 5, 2005 What kind of paint was it? Krylon Fusion? I've painted various things with it, not a chip on any of it. DId you use clear after? Clear really helps it, just make sure the plastic paint is COMPLETELY dry, it tends to peel off if its not set up before changing paints. Tell me if this helps. Eric Quote
1800bigk Posted April 5, 2005 Report Posted April 5, 2005 yeah, use krylon fusion and make sure the plastics are clean before you spray them. I just painted mine black and gray and it came out good. the can says no sanding is needed but I sanded mine with 400 grit just to be sure. Quote
Titanium Posted April 5, 2005 Report Posted April 5, 2005 Use a higher quality paint. Fusion sounds cool and all, but chances are if you have to shake the can before spraying, it won't last. A friend's we did last weekend cost him $54 for all the chemicals, a beautiful metallic gunmetal color, sprayed awesomely, no chips, very durable finish. Quote
ROCKETMAN29 Posted April 5, 2005 Report Posted April 5, 2005 my paint shop says painting plastic is not going to hold up! they used a flex agent on mine but told me id be back! oh well if it dont last, it was only 150 for the paint! good luck! Quote

Oilsmoke Posted April 10, 2005 Report Posted April 10, 2005 I used Krylon for 2 year and Love it. No it's not custom by no means But it's lot better than strached & faded plastic. I degrease it and streamed presure washed rinsed it Wet scotch brite pad The Fine gray color i think. Wet sand with 400 first 2 coats and 600 last 2 coats. Looks pretty good also you can paint it for touch up. here a pic Walt will show you his High dollar Auto paint job, I can only dream Quote
NickyPap Posted April 10, 2005 Report Posted April 10, 2005 (edited) Oilsmoke-Damn that's mean ass shit lookin! Nightride-Most important I'd say it's all in the prep. Edited April 10, 2005 by NickyPap Quote
J12480 Posted April 29, 2005 Report Posted April 29, 2005 I was curious about this paint so I spent last weekend trying it out. These were my results...not to bad for a rookie. Quote
J12480 Posted April 29, 2005 Report Posted April 29, 2005 I'd have to say it worked. I put on about three coats plus two clear coats. Not too bad for 50 bucks Quote
DETROIT350 Posted May 2, 2005 Report Posted May 2, 2005 i am a autobody painter. if u use an epoxy primer before u paint u shouldnt have any problems along with regular prep (clean , sanding with 400grit) that epoxy primer will stick to just about anything. Quote
theeechozen1 Posted May 5, 2005 Report Posted May 5, 2005 if you have a sprayer, I think the paint to use is a "plastic adhesive promotor" it's very plyable and will bend with the plastic instead of chipping. Plus I'm pretty sure you can get any color you want mixed up. Quote

With the fusion would you want your primer to be completely dry, or tacky, when you go to paint?? thanks sirs Quote
