MDS2106 Posted May 6, 2005 Report Posted May 6, 2005 (edited) no primer needed,it sticks to the plastic very well, i redid my tank cover this time i put a couple of coats of clear over the krylon paint, just be carefull when fueling up . the instructions say no sanding needed ,but i suggest sanding the plastic up to help it stick, wipe it down very good with thinner or something to remove any contaminates on the plastic, this paint seems to fish eye easily Edited May 9, 2005 by MDS2106 Quote
XxMeltIcexX Posted May 6, 2005 Report Posted May 6, 2005 Yeah, the paints really tempermental..not like a regular spray paint... I ddint use primer.. it sticks great.. Only problem ive had with it, is when i tightened down a screw too tight, the paint cracked..Easy fix tho...I still think its better than spending 500 bucks on new plastics...but when i get the money i'm definately changin... Oilsmoke Posted May 6, 2005 Report Posted May 6, 2005 Interesting, I was thinking of painting my tank shroud and gas cover white with that fusion stuff, but scratch that idea eh??? With the fusion would you want your primer to be completely dry, or tacky, when you go to paint?? thanks sirs 365397[/snapback] Fusion works best without primer. It's etch into the plastic with the chemicals in the paint That's why it's called FUSION plastic paint. Just look at my shee. No primer Just 4 coats of Black Fusion. Clean it and paint. It flex pretty good I think for a 12 dollar paint job. Quote
nosbanshee4u Posted May 6, 2005 Report Posted May 6, 2005 so just do a few coats of fusion paint and then a few coats of clear eh?? Thanks for your help, but do you think the fusion even with the clear will still get removed by gasoline?? I would really like to paint the shroud cover and tank cover but will skip the tank cover if its going to look like shit after the first time I fill up. thanks mike Quote

I spill alittle on my tank cover before I never lost any paint. but it was only a little. Try it what do you have to loose? Aan if you do don't wipe it off, let it evaporate first before you try to clean it . if it soften paint let it be for a few hours than clean it. Quote
nosbanshee4u Posted May 7, 2005 Report Posted May 7, 2005 exactly my thoughts, I think I will give it a whirl then. ITs not as if i put more on the ground than in the tank, but it seems like everyone spills a few drops every fillup. Thanks man. I will definately give it a try. again Thanks, mike newell Quote
MDS2106 Posted May 9, 2005 Report Posted May 9, 2005 (edited) I just used a clear coat i bought at tha autoparts store i don't think it is krylon, i had more than just a few drops spill on the tank ,at first i tried to wipe it off and noticed the paint wanting to lift so i let the gas dry, when i went to clean the tank it was streaked badly, i guess from the 927 mixed in the gas being a white tank it showed the oil/gas streaks easily.but it didn't take long at all to redo it/ oh by the way my 10yr.old son thought he would do me a favor and fill it up before we loaded the bikes up, i walk up and he is spilling more on the ground than he is putting it the tank,it was kinda upsetting to say the least Edited May 9, 2005 by MDS2106 Quote
