hey all Im posting a question for a buddy of mine. He wants to know if a CR125 would be a good bike for him, he said he used to ride everyday for like 2 months on a XR80 like 10 years ago, so he does have a little expierence.Another thing that might factor in is, he isn't very stout, I'd say about 5'10 n pretty skinny. Let me know wha ur suggestions would be for him. Oh and he'll be doing mostly trail and pit riding.

well theres a huge difference from the xr line to the cr like 20hp difference, but with his skinny build sounds like a 125 should scoot his ass effectively ,hell need to get used to it its alot of pep for a thin inexperianced rider

I think he might as well get a 250, he will out grown the 125...

but, if he doesn't gain weight stick w/125

Just my 2 cents

I still think the 125's are the best size. They aren't the fastest, but I find them to be the most fun to ride. 250 would be my choice if I wanted to race, 500 are just a little out of my league. I have a friend that permantly limps now from buying more bike than he ever belonged on.

Tell him to get the 125, and a weight set.

Thnx for the replies guys, when he 1st asked me i told him no, i wouldn't let him buy/ride anything else than a banshee...but apparently he wants to get his expierence up again before he hops on a banshee..

For real! Stock Banshees are slow compared to a piped one with mods. Tell him to W.P. and to get a banshee! :D

is he set on a cr? ive found the yz's powerband a little easier to ride, especially coming off of an xr80. the cr's are built for topend haulin ass, but the yz is smoother and easier to ride. dont get me wrong, they are both fast. but all my 125 friends have yz's for this exact reason.

i hate 125's. ive ridden a few and thought they flat out sucked. even if i was a beginner id still buy a 250. just take it easy and work your way up to shit. you can get hurt on a 125 just as easily as a 250..

i had a brain fart earlier, if i was gonna buy a new 125 class bike itd be that crf250r. those things are badass, and the 450's are even better. if the height is an issue with him tell him to look into the new yami 4strokes, they have a little lower seat height and its earsier for some shorter dudes to ride them because of it.

Bump! I'm not going to say I hate 125's because I have never rode one. But my first bike ever was a CR250. I had a few small wrecks, but then I could ride the hell out of it!

Dont listen to locogato he's an amature :D Truthfully I think why the hell not get a 250? It might scare him a few times but he'll get the hang of it. Anyone that knows how to ride can ride anything as long as you respect it and know your limits. But a 125 will move his ass just fine if thats what he wants. Now if we are talking 4 stroke then a 200cc minamum
