cdcoxwell Posted January 2, 2005 Report Posted January 2, 2005 Hey people, hope everyone had a great CHRISTMAS and a HAPPY NEW YEAR What's the worst that could happen by cranking my shee w/out the pipes connected. I have purchased new pipes and they are taking longer to be delivered due to the holidays. The stock pipes have been completely removed, anxiously awaiting for the new ones. I cleaned my carbs due to not idleing (yes, both pilot jets were cloged with dirt) and I would like to crank her to see if shee will idle. But, I don't want to have to reinstall the stocks just to see if the carbs are operating correctly. Any feedback will be greatly apprec. Thx, Cary Quote
bansheefreestyler Posted January 2, 2005 Report Posted January 2, 2005 ya man same to you. iv ran my shee with just the pipes on no silencers and it woudlnt idle because of no backpressure from the silencer. i dont know if that helps you any but io figured it might. i think it would be worser with no pipes on atal either because there would be less backpressure. i dont think it canm cause anyharm if your not riding it or anything just starting it Quote

Now that you mentioned it, I don't think shee will run at all w/out any pipes. I will just have to wait on the new pipes. THX-A-MILL. Quote
locogato11283 Posted January 2, 2005 Report Posted January 2, 2005 dont start it without pipes. i seriously doubt its good on the engine and its gonna be loud. Quote
BitchenBanshee Posted January 2, 2005 Report Posted January 2, 2005 dont start it without pipes. i seriously doubt its good on the engine and its gonna be loud. 300992[/snapback] DONT START IT!! What happens a ton on cars without exhaust is when it is eventually shut off, everything cools down way too fast. This causes uneven shrinkage and could lead to piston problems. I wouldn't try it just to be sure! Quote
cb67rs1 Posted January 2, 2005 Report Posted January 2, 2005 why dont ya do it and tell us what happens Quote
stclark816 Posted January 2, 2005 Report Posted January 2, 2005 I ran my old banshee without pipes once. It idled and ran, just had no power. It was really loud too. I ran it down to our shop and back, maybe 3/4 of a mile trip, nothing happened to it. I dont know that its necessarily good or bad, I just didnt give a fuck. Quote
Wallrat Posted January 3, 2005 Report Posted January 3, 2005 Ya but if you're coming off of some restrictive stock pipes then its gonna be lean as all hell. So my guess is a melted piston at worst. Quote
bansheeryder_69 Posted January 3, 2005 Report Posted January 3, 2005 It won't do anything unless you take off and go for a ride we do it all the time just cause it sounds bad ass. It sounds like a full mod sled wide open when its just idling Quote
03440ex Posted January 3, 2005 Report Posted January 3, 2005 without ths silencers it wont hurt it i lost 1 during the 2nd lap of a race and it never hurtanything in a 15 lap 1.5 mile mx race but without the expansion chambers i dunno Quote
FireHead Posted January 3, 2005 Report Posted January 3, 2005 Theoretically what will happen is that the combustion chambers will not scavenge without the pipes. Therefore the engine will rin horribly or not at all. You also risk burning the exhaust side of the piston due to rapidly heating and cooling it. However you would certainly not be lean since you would not be pulling enough air through the motor, due to the lack of scavenging. Quote
Banchetta Posted January 3, 2005 Report Posted January 3, 2005 I've ran one of my older shees w/o exhaust, didn't hurt anything. Exhaust are designed to improve the back pressure to help create a push and pull which in turn creates a turbo effect. W/o it, your losing that "turbo", so it'll run worse. I don't think it could hurt it, but then again, why take a chance??? Quote
bluefrog Posted January 11, 2005 Report Posted January 11, 2005 i ran mine with just the pipes when it was stock the sound is deadly now i have drag pipes and it just as loud Quote
banshee tuner Posted January 12, 2005 Report Posted January 12, 2005 Unless you have plenty of money to burn don't do it. Just be patient man. Usually if you have doubts your probably going to screw something up. Quote
