250rQB16 Posted November 21, 2004 Report Posted November 21, 2004 My buddy and i were riding one weekend and i let him take out my '90 banshee for a spin. We were drivin around and all of a sudden the bike died. No smoke, no oil leaks nothing. So i started it back up and while riding around i noticed i had lost first gear. So we went back to camp, talked about it for a while then tried to fire it up again after 20 minutes but the motor had ceased up. Couldn't kick start it, couldn't even get it into neutral. Any answers on what might be wrong would be appreciated. Quote
banshee76179 Posted November 21, 2004 Report Posted November 21, 2004 Could be shift star or the clutch... Quote
frocashmoney24 Posted November 21, 2004 Report Posted November 21, 2004 you cant push the kickstarter down? Quote
joshv5.0 Posted November 22, 2004 Report Posted November 22, 2004 sounds like a trans or clutch problem time to split dem there cases sunny boy!! Quote
Bansheerider29x Posted November 22, 2004 Report Posted November 22, 2004 its either a blown clutch or gears or your fork gears thats all i can think of Quote
dynabanshee Posted November 22, 2004 Report Posted November 22, 2004 Can you pulls the clutch lever in? As in, does the clutch arm move freely? Quote
dynabanshee Posted November 22, 2004 Report Posted November 22, 2004 At any rate open the clutch side cover and see if there is any obvious problems or broken parts. Quote
250rQB16 Posted November 22, 2004 Author Report Posted November 22, 2004 Well once i realized i had lost first gear and i knew something was wrong i was able to kick start it and ride it backk to camp? But once i let it sit for about 20 minutes and then tried to kick start it again thats when it ceased up on me. The kick starter wouldn't move and i couldn't even get the bike into neutral. The real wheels were locked up even when I pulled the clutch in.....Any help would be appreciated. Quote
dynabanshee Posted November 22, 2004 Report Posted November 22, 2004 Take the clutch side case off. No one will know what is wrong until you open it up. Open the case, see if the clutch is functioning properly (engage, disengage). While you are there you can put it into nuetral with the shift star if your tranny isn't shot. You can also turn the primary drive and see if the pistons and crank are turning. If the clutch is fine and the crank/pistons are fine, then you are really left with your trans and you will be splitting the cases. Have even drained your oil yet and checked for debris in there? Get to work and post when you have torn it down enough to isolate the problem. Quote
250rQB16 Posted November 23, 2004 Author Report Posted November 23, 2004 (edited) Well me and my buddy went out tonight and screwed with it a little. The kick starter in not ceased anymore. I was able to kick it all the way down, but i didn't do it too hard, trying to prevent any further damage. There is normal compression. We weren't able to get the bike into neutral, I couldn't even find neutral. When in gear, I pulled the clutch in and sometimes the wheels would roll sometimes they wouldn't. Any help would be appreciated. Edited November 23, 2004 by 250rQB16 Quote
Leadfoot350 Posted November 23, 2004 Report Posted November 23, 2004 Take off the clutch cover and look at your broken clutch and replace it. Quote
250rQB16 Posted November 24, 2004 Author Report Posted November 24, 2004 Well we finally tore into the bike. I first drained the oil with no signs of metal shavings or anything noticably wrong. Then I took off the pump cover and the took off the clutch cover. I took off the bolts and springs on the clutch to see if we could get to the star. But I had to stop because I didn't have a big enough socket at my house to get the center nut off. I couldn't see anything unusual. Im not to familiar with the clutch so my terminology might be a little off. Any help would be appreciated.. Quote
