racer Posted August 20, 2004 Author Report Posted August 20, 2004 CEJ, from your professional standpoint how many hours do you think are involved in a set of cases like that? Quote
locogato11283 Posted August 20, 2004 Report Posted August 20, 2004 those are fuckin sick. but not worth 3000 bucks if you ask me. i could buy several banshee engines for that. Quote
Cotton eyed Joe Posted August 20, 2004 Report Posted August 20, 2004 CEJ, from your professional standpoint how many hours do you think are involved in a set of cases like that? Well, to tell you the truth, I looked at a pump housing for an ice cream plant yesterday that was 16" square with all sorts of machining, offset, elliptical shit etc etc....I could lift it with one hand...not a huge part...$15,000. Being that its aluminum, with some high speed top of the line machining, there might be 10 hours worth in a set. The biggest price is in the aluminum, which changes daily. When I get a quote on aluminum or steel, I have to order it within 4 hours. But its really hard to say how much time is really going into those. I don't have the machines I wish I had. I've ran a few when we did have them, but nothing that was super fast, and rigid. I can imagine the tooling is expensive as hell. I've seen drills that are over $120 each. Coolant through drills, that arent cut in the drill shape, but twisted into that shape. And when you get a mill that has 20 HP or 40HP, you're talking some serious cash tied up in that machine. It has to be rigid and powerful as hell to cut with 40 HP. I'd be willing to say that alot of that $3,000 cost is paying for the tooling, the machine, and the know how. I couldn't make them, not even for $10,000 or even $20,000. I simply can't do it. Quote
ledofthezep Posted August 20, 2004 Report Posted August 20, 2004 Damn...imagine how much R&D went into that! Quote
SICK BOY Posted August 20, 2004 Report Posted August 20, 2004 I'd need a lot of $$$$ to build that motor. Quote
cam2 Posted August 20, 2004 Report Posted August 20, 2004 YEE-HAAA..... that's kick ass like stan said. From my perspective, that isn't a "part" its a damn work of art. yeah buddy!!!!!!! Damn...imagine how much R&D went into that! many many hours and a lot of brain power. i wish i had the tools and the know how to build stuff like that. Quote
iceman Posted August 20, 2004 Report Posted August 20, 2004 How do you get an 800cc? Good lord...you might open a time portal. Quote
Cotton eyed Joe Posted August 20, 2004 Report Posted August 20, 2004 How do you get an 800cc? Good lord...you might open a time portal. By sticking rotax cylinders on it. You can also put Jet Ski cylinders on banshee cases if memory serves correctly. Quote
hemimike Posted August 20, 2004 Report Posted August 20, 2004 Hey cotton eye joe, what kind of work do you do? I think we do the same type jobs, I do some cnc work and teach a small machine shop course in the middle east. I agree the tooling and fixturing on that part would cost a fortune. Quote
broke Posted August 20, 2004 Report Posted August 20, 2004 Those give me bad ideas. I have a sled sitting here with an 800 Rotax twin in it that is just waiting for winter. Maybe I could turn the jugs into a dual role set-up. The wife is already looking over my shoulder saying "NO". broke Quote
