locogato11283 Posted August 7, 2004 Report Posted August 7, 2004 now that i have the passion engine im startin to get a slipping clutch. i need something really heavy duty and ive heard talk about the R6 or R1 clutch working?? does anyone know anything about it or use it themselves??? Quote
broke Posted August 7, 2004 Report Posted August 7, 2004 I have been running the Toomey clutch in my bike for two years now and still working great. I have to run all the aftermarket springs in mine, but I know plenty that just do three and three. Just do a search over at Planetsand for clutches, I think some have gone to FZR 1000 or FZR 600 fibers with stock Banshee steels. I'm sure someone will give you the answer, but this question come up alot at PS. broke Quote
rebelbanshee2 Posted August 7, 2004 Report Posted August 7, 2004 Its FZR600 plated people use. what do you have in for a clutch now? I have the more expensive EBC kit and it does real well. Id put a billet basket in while you are at it..the stocker wont last with all that power long Quote
Oilsmoke Posted August 8, 2004 Report Posted August 8, 2004 Locogato I had a sliping stock clutch, on a Piped & ported shee last year. Now with jim's 12PS I installed 3 toomey springs in the same clutch and i Sand hillshoot all day long with mine and it as never slipped once. I would give it a try first I bet you be very happy with it Plus it's very cheap. Quote
a&sbanshee Posted August 8, 2004 Report Posted August 8, 2004 i run r-6 fibers with the thick barnett steels in mine with all 6 toomey springs but if u dont have an override i would stay away from running all 6 toomey's cuz they are hella stiff if u got a manual tranny id run 3 toomeys and 3 barnetts or either all 6 barnetts Quote
23champ Posted August 8, 2004 Report Posted August 8, 2004 I had the same problem. While I had my motor apart putting the 4mm stroker crank in I figured what the hell, I might as well go ahead and put a new clutch in since it was already tore apart. I went for the barnett dirt digger, because I have ran EBC's before in my CR and didn't really like them to much (Give it a bad case of the creepy clutch). It turns out the barnett was no good either. It lasted about 3hrs. so pulled the clutch cover off and stuck the stock fibers back in with the barnett steels and springs and it seems to be holding for now. But I think I am going to go with the R1 plates sooner or later. Quote
locogato11283 Posted August 8, 2004 Author Report Posted August 8, 2004 sweet, well im gettin alot of good ideas here but where do i get these parts individually? i hate to buy like 3 different clutches and have spare shit left over. is there anywhere to buy the individual spring, fibers and steels?? tats4life Posted August 8, 2004 Report Posted August 8, 2004 Hit me up and tell me what you want and need Quote
a&sbanshee Posted August 8, 2004 Report Posted August 8, 2004 u can get the steels and fibers from ya local yamaha shop and u can order just the springs from barnett or toomey for about 16 bucks for the set Quote
zilladude Posted August 8, 2004 Report Posted August 8, 2004 Barnett sells the steels & springs separatly. Just go to their website. My old banshee had stock fibers, barnett steels & 3ebc/3barnett springs. It never slipped & I beat the hell out of it. My ebc clutch in my zilla is holding up so far but the plates swell when you slip it alot(2nd gear starts w/paddles) Quote
skykingcory Posted August 9, 2004 Report Posted August 9, 2004 I put a barnett dirt digger in mine over year and half ago with the port and it has never slipped on me. I have all 6 springs in it though. I put on a MSR raptor perch and is much easier to pull than the stocker was with the stock clutch. I only use two fingers a lot of the time. Make sure you change your tranny fluid regularly also! Quote
cdw Posted August 9, 2004 Report Posted August 9, 2004 Loco what kind of tranny oil do you run? Quote
jinx44 Posted August 9, 2004 Report Posted August 9, 2004 The trinity clutch kit uses the factory FZR fibers. I run a KG clutch factory kit in my banshees and they work fine with all 6 springs that they supply. They are cheap also. Local dealers should be able to get them. Quote
a&sbanshee Posted August 9, 2004 Report Posted August 9, 2004 85 weight bel-ray gear saver is the only way to go in my opinion Quote
