Durablue filter decomposing? Anyone else?

The outer shell on my durablue filter looks like it's decomposing.  It's not mice.

Is this happening to anyone else?

foam filters do break down with age, how old is it? also using gas to clean them breaks them down faster. better off using diesel fuel or mineral spirits to clean them

It's at least 5 years oil.  I use dish soap and warm water.  I don't ride much and so it's only been cleaned a maximum of 3 times.

that little use. means its been sitting long periods with oil on it. yes air filter oil will break down the filter over time

Yep, i tried that no toil brand foam style on the polaris...same thing

Everybody's gone to cheap products these days. They would always break down, but a lot quicker now it seems.

i keep multiple filters on hand. wash in diesel, then clean green and water. dry them then store them dry. oil when swaping out. i have some that are 6yr old still look good

Yeah it's the one in the quad that goes bad, from sitting

Some dish soaps are oil based(dawn) will break down oil based things. Rubber hoses, motor mounts and etc...

every foam filter I've ever had (quads, lawn mowers, air compressors, air conditioners, shop vacs, etc.) has gone to crap too soon.  I try to not use them for anything.
