Of course track surface can make a big difference. You can accommodate for that with tire pressure and/or clutch. On a hard hooking track most Cubs wouldn't pull an 18 paddle.

Back in the day I used to run 18 paddle extreme stags 24inch tire 78 RO on a stock chassis with a 421 cub. Now I have a riggid chassis with a 465 cub and I am running 18 paddle extreme stags with a 20 inch 70 RO tire and the smaller tire really helps down the track while keeping the 60 ft the same.

We cant pull nearly that kinda tire atthunder valley. That would bog even some good running bikes where we race. Even bikes pullin 3.80s. Ours is wet heavy sand with dirt.

By great success you mean mid to low 1.3 60 ft, or that you run better than everyone else? (No disrespect intended at all, just that "success" gets thrown around a lot.)

I am not saying I am faster then everyone else, the original poster asked about a 10mm cub setup which is exacty what I run, so I am just giving my opinion of what works best for me, that's all, nothing more nothing less.

The 18 paddle seemed to have been what raised the eyebrows. I don't worry too much about tires, we just make what we have or borrow work. There are many different set-ups to get the desired results. The 3 most common tires we used on our set-up in the signature was: 12 Extremes, 14 Rippers both 74"-75" RO & 16 Extremes in the 80" RO range. They all netted us killer 60's with our best being a 1.30x.

Seems like RDZ set records with tires in the 18 paddle range on smaller motors than a 10 mm Cub. I can't remember the post, but I if I remember dajogejr brought the subject up many years ago.

I don't really care what tire someone is using or not using. It only matters what works for you & success is measured in many different ways!
