Pros an Cons of No AIRBOX

I brought a Banshee an the Airbox was removed an the two filters are exposed , and I'm gonna go trail riding on it, first question will it be ok until I can locate another box an is there anything I can do to keep them from sucking in so much dirt until then

No air box means more air. More air matched with more fuel will produce more power depending on other variables.

 

What are the conditions of your trails? Water, dirt, mud, dusty, all of them? Do the filters have outer wears? If you are going to be going through a decent amount of water and mud I would suggest an air box.

Just Dusty an Dirty Trails and the filters have a Foam around them

IMO you will want k&n style filters with outerwears. The uni filters are a good fit for snowmobiles but not ATVs

I agree^^. The uni's tend to stop up fast and are not as reliable as a k&n with an outerwear.. When im on a ride i simply can just slip the outerwears off and shake them out,

I trail ride alot and I run exposed pod filters, if its a little wet out I toss on the outerwears and I have never had any trouble

In the coal dust I dont like the k&n filters it always seems like there is coal dirt/dust on the carb bell.. the foam filters seem to stop that I run a bigger foam filter with outer foam filters on mine and it works well for me.

In most cases im sure the k&n filters are great but the coal is like baby powder when it gets dry.

 

That being said most of my buddies run k&n with out any problems I guess the little dust I see dont mean much?

 

Just stay clear of water and you will be fine.

You didn't say what kind of filters you have, but if you run the K&N, then run the outerwears with them. Otherwise just throw some dirt in your carbs. The K&N are high maintenance in my opinion

I run pods simply because it's a pain in the ass to install & remove the stock airbox.

I suppose if you install & remove it enough It may be easier. But I fought that damn stock box until I said screw it and went back to pods.

Haha! If I didn't know better I'd say that was a photo of my crank from the white lake ice races a few years ago. I had pods on and one of the turns had a fucking pond filling up in it. Needless to say, airbox if it's really wet. Otherwise the pods are better performance and way easier to do work on the bike. The only question is whether your riding is going to need a foam or gauze type filter. Basically if there is very dusty or silt like conditions the Foam does a better job. But they do clog up much faster. It helps to put a panty hose over them and use them like an outer wear. There is a brand called Filter Socks, they are the same thing but just way pricier.
