SlowerThanYou Posted January 8 Author Report Posted January 8 I'm making slow headway on the DMX. I took some extra time to mockup the muti-stage lock-up. I need to do some machining on the inner clutch hub to make it work with the 8 plate Hinson set-up. The engine is in the chassis & mostly put together. I ordered some small stuff today to complete the cooling system. It's getting close & I found an old co-worker to help me start it. I plan on starting it next week some time & running it down the road to check out the transmission. That's all for now. Thee one & only 1700Camaro/STY! 👽 Quote
SlowerThanYou Posted January 17 Author Report Posted January 17 Finally got around to firing the DMX today with no drama. Tomorrow, I test the new transmission. If everything goes well, it goes for track testing next weekend. 2BKING 🤔 Quote
SlowerThanYou Posted January 18 Author Report Posted January 18 I made 3/part throttle runs today through the override gears. It shifted like butter. Next weekend will be the true test at the track. I have to spend some more time with the back brake. Even though I flushed the fluid & bled, it's not working very well. Other than that, everything looks like it's ready to go. SlowerThanYou Posted January 28 Author Report Posted January 28 Made it to the track this past weekend. It wasn't pretty for the 1st two runs & not much better on the last two. We had bog issues at the hit & blubbering down the track on 1st two runs. The next two passes were alright after we leaned out the power jets a full turn. Plus, we were almost a second slower than our passes last year. We were bucking a 25-mph head wind on all runs that has a good effect on slowing our runs. We attribute the other issue to old fuel. It was an un-opened can of Q16 that was 11 months old. I guess that's why we had to lean out the power jets that much. We did make some minor changes for this coming weekend races. New can of Q16 & I'm sure we'll have to richen the power jets back up. We changed the final gear ratio from a 1.94 to a 2.0. We also made an adjustment to the clutch lever switch that activates the 2-step for a quicker reaction time. The new transmission worked great. 2BKING 🥱 Quote

All of my experience is on sand obviously, but its AMAZING how tunable a traditional lockup is. Are you guys white striping the tire then taking vids and slowing it down to see how many rotations its making to the 60 stripe? 1 Quote

Are you guys white striping the tire then taking vids and slowing it down to see how many rotations its making to the 60 stripe? Sorry, I've been pretty busy; sucks to be retired! I work harder now, then when I had a career. We put a hole in the right-side piston on the DMX this past weekend on the 1st run. We got a fresh can of Q16 & opened the power jets 1/2 turn. Thought the boy was only going to take to the 1/8th mile as discussed, the night before. Guess he forgot & the motor went sour at the 1,000'! As for the Q, it's what we did with the Cub after a discussion with VP tech director. He stated way back then it will make more HP than methanol, he was right. It will not make the mid-range torque of meth & he was correct on that. We only care about HP & keep the engine in a very narrow rpm range. It works for our program. We are using a standard lock-up for now. While I had the engine out for the new billet trans, I did mock-up the multi-stage lock-up. I have to do some machine work to make it work. Don't really want to monkey with either of the outdated systems. I'm looking at the Gen II multi-stage, basket driven system if I'm going to continue mess around with this shit. To be honest we have never used a white stripe with the quad or our other drag vehicles. Our 60' tuning has spoken for itself in proof of the 60'. Good to see you took some interest in the infamous DMX, it had a lot of teething pains over the years. If I had to do it all over again, I would have never gotten rid of the 443cc Cub. It was one bad Bitch on Q16 against bigger cc quads be it 300', hill shooting, 1/8th & 1/4 mile. It hurt a lot of feelings & hardly ever let us down. Water under the bridge, just old Cub war stories now! 2BKING 😉 Quote
SKEETER Posted February 4 Report Posted February 4 N2otooslow4everybuddy is clueless. Only thing he's good at bike related, is replacing stock reed cages on a stock cylinder turbo bike that on its best day spit a 2.3 60' anduh 5.1 3 hunnit' . He needs to stick with catching pike minnow off his 89 bass tracker Quote
SlowerThanYou Posted February 10 Author Report Posted February 10 (edited) Got two Polaris Trail Boss 350L Wiseco pistons ordered for the DMX & should be here this week. Plan is to have it back to the track in 2 1/2 weeks. We are going back to focusing on 1/8th mile times. We will have to run 1/4 mile but will cut the throttle at the 1,000' mark. Not going to win many races that way, but it is what it is. The reason the focus is going to be on 1/8th mile, Kingman Street Drags is scheduled for Oct. 2026. 2BKING 😜 Edited February 10 by SlowerThanYou Quote

Need to replace the cylinders too much corrosion in the water jackets. Someone used hard tap water in the cooling system & let it set. It wasn't under my care! We got ahold of CP today to check on new cylinders. Looks like we might be going to an 85 bore. I'm taking a few days to stew on spending more $$$ on this headache! 2BKING 🤑 Quote
