gotta_goatsfast Posted February 23, 2011 Author Report Posted February 23, 2011 The R2s hit the clark tank. My tank looks just the the one in the picture above and I had to put the stock tank back on. How bad? I should have my pipes here in a few days. I figure I will shim them and all until it fits to my liking. Quote

Bad enough i took the tank off and put the stocker on. I thought about spacing it out it would need at least 3/8 of an inch. I didn't want to take any chances, hate to melt a spot on a good tank. gotta_goatsfast Posted February 24, 2011 Author Report Posted February 24, 2011 Hmmm, I'll have to get creative. I'm not sure how long a stock tank will get me on a 421 serval with 35s. lol, thanks for the input. I'll post up at a later date when the motor and pipes are in. Quote
camatv Posted February 24, 2011 Report Posted February 24, 2011 gas or alky. how far are you trying to go? i dune ride an alky bike with 32's onit and a stock tank. i do have to watch the tank level but havent ran out yet. usually when i am ready for a drink or a poop i hit the pits and fill it back up // Quote
gotta_goatsfast Posted February 24, 2011 Author Report Posted February 24, 2011 It could be 3 or more hours of hard riding before I have access to fuel. Otherwise its a LONG walk. lol Quote
run Posted February 24, 2011 Report Posted February 24, 2011 use the stock tank, get a 6 pack rack GB with some gas to get ya back if u run out. Quote
gotta_goatsfast Posted February 24, 2011 Author Report Posted February 24, 2011 use the stock tank, get a 6 pack rack GB with some gas to get ya back if u run out. but, but, I just bought it last year. lol, we'll see. If I can make it fit I'll be happy. If I can't, hopefully I can sell it to recoup some of the cost. ...and are there any companies that still produce the six pack rack? I would need the rack, a stock tank, stock blue plastics.... wait, I'd probably just run full bores. Quote

Just bought a six pack off ebay thats quick release... holds 1 cooler and 2 gas cans with or without flag mount for $130 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/banshee-yfz-450r-450-quick-release-gas-can-6-pack-rack-/190502780852?pt=Motors_ATV_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2c5ad9bfb4#ht_500wt_1156 ... as for the tank with the r-2s, I just bought both and it may take a little creativity but they WILL work!!!http://bansheehq.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/banghead.gif Quote
gotta_goatsfast Posted February 25, 2011 Author Report Posted February 25, 2011 I'm just waitin on motor mounts from JD and I'll put the serval back in its crib. I think I can make it work with a little shimming and possibly strategic placed high temp barrier. Quote
gotta_goatsfast Posted February 27, 2011 Author Report Posted February 27, 2011 Basically what the title asks. I've got an IMS 5.5 gallon gas tank. My engine build includes the option of either CPI or Rocket R2 pipes, but the R2s look like they rise up and out quite a bit. Maybe enough to interfere with the oversized tank? I lied to you all. Its the Clarke 5.5 tank (the tank with radiator vents molded into it). But, I'm here to report my findings. First off, the 421 Serval has successfully been transplanted into the bike with goodies like straight cut gears, lock up clutch/lexan cover, chariot bearing support stator cover, ect... I have to say, the pipes fit AWESOME. I machined 3/8" spacers to tuck behind the pipe mount to bring the pipes out a tad farther. When I dropped the tank on I was relieved that it did not hit the pipes. However, there is only 7/16" area between the closest part of the pipes and the gas tank. For this, I believe I'll use a little of this on the tank. Heat Shield Quote
Hibnecker1 Posted February 27, 2011 Report Posted February 27, 2011 Glad to hear it will work... I was thinking i waisted alot of cash! Quote
Boosted GMC Posted March 1, 2011 Report Posted March 1, 2011 That heat shield says it needs a 1 inch air gap between the heat source and the mat. I don't think you can move the pipes out that far with out the mid pipes hitting the frame. Quote
gotta_goatsfast Posted March 1, 2011 Author Report Posted March 1, 2011 Its only a recommendation. If I had a choice I would pick 1" of space... but I've only got so much to work with. lol Quote
iPaul Posted March 24, 2011 Report Posted March 24, 2011 This set of Rockets was picked up from the Respress fellas over in Atmore, Alabama about a year or so ago. No fit problems with the Clarke 5.5 gallon - even the Pingel has enough room although it's all quite tight. My point is....the interference issuse may not be the problem, it's the look that may be an issue. Perhaps the IMS 3 gallon? Something not quite so big. I had to cut my fenders to get that Clarke in, now i'm looking at another set of front plastics so i can put a smaller tank back on. The Clarke has a few other issues with the way it looks installed (ie: brackets in front of cap are ugly, the gas cap is kinda up in your face, did i mention it's HUGE, it's discoloring yellow). Do you really want to commit to a big tank, cause it is a commitment that will cost you to back out of. Once you cut, your done! Just wanted to add my .02 as to weather you even want the big tank. For me, it's gonna ammount to a waste of a lot of money because the fenders and tank are of no use - it's just too ugly - I can't deal with all the bulk. Quote
