Ok heres what I got now Fast head, 21 domes, t-5, vf3, k&n, holes in lid, 27.5, needle clip 3 poss., alt. 846. So today bike would not run with 260 jet I had to go back down 240. Why is this, it has me a little scared but it runs good.

Well im no jetting expert, Im sure some of the pros will chime in.

But with you mods, minus the air lid i was at like 290-310 range.

I would say you are way lean on your main jet.

when i got every thing together i had 260 in and plugs where wet, and it was making a baaaww sound, half to full throttle, should i go 280. im just confused because shees running good but lean motors run good FOR A WHILE.

You may be fighting an ignition problem that you are masking with lean jetting. You really should be in the 270-290 range but that does not mean you have to go there. Try gapping your plugs down to .020" and see what it does. Also take a look at timing and your pulser coil gap under the stator cover. Just sounds wrong.

Now when you jetted you DID put the washers back under the mains, right? That brass washer will screw you all up.

Slides in right? Can be installed backwards or I guess swapped L to R and that will really cause a shitty running bike.

My elevation isn't too much more than yours and when i just had pipes and a k&n filter i ran 280 or 290 mains.See if it runs better or worse with the choke on.Its not the best way,but it can give you an idea if your jetting is off.

I could be all wrong but I am pretty sure the main has nothing to do with starting and idleing. Take a better look at your pilots. Or Blowit might be on the right track he knows whats up.

Can you answer my questions regarding your setup?

One other thing that can cause this is reed failure. Basically, if the reeds do not shut properly, air is shoved back into the carb and pulled back into the engine in the next stroke causing a "double dip" effect of fueling the air charge in the carb. This will cause an excessively rich condition.

I looked at the reeds they arnt 3 weeks old (VF3) no BIG gaps ive been told there are sometimes little gaps in the corners.

That should not be an issue then. Let me know if the rest of the stuff I asked.

my vote would be go back to stock pilot, iv talked with lonnie at sandtrax and jeff at fast racing, both of them have said you generally should never have to change your pilot jet, it can always be adjusted out with needle and air/fuel screws,.

go back down to 25 pilot and move the needle down to lean it out a little, stay with 280 main
