fastbanshee8 Posted February 1, 2009 Report Posted February 1, 2009 It's the counter shaft seal that's leaking, and it's an easy fix. If you don't fix it soon, the leaking oil will attract a bunch of dirt, and sand, and work it's way past the seal into the trans. This happened to me years ago, and caused the trans to quit shifting. I had to take the cases apart, to get all the dirt out, but luckily it didn't hurt any parts. Quote

travis6767 Posted February 1, 2009 Report Posted February 1, 2009 that one of the stupidest things i have ever heard why would it cause heat, there is a crank case vent in the case from the factory, if anything it would make the crankcase run cooler Quote

travis6767 Posted February 1, 2009 Report Posted February 1, 2009 on a snowmobile ya , it is different that dosent have a crankcase like a banshee, so everything is lubercated by the mix of the gas/oil, so if you think about that, it would mean that you had a lean condition because of the extra air entering, aka unmetered air, which causes a lean condition, which is not enough fuel/oil mixture for the amount of air that its burning, this will cause everything to run hotter than it should with the banshee having a crankcase that is lubercated with gear oil, and the crank which is sealed off from the crankcase it lubercated by the oil/gas mixed, now if this was leaking from a crank seal then you would be right, but since this is from the counter sproket shaft you are wrong Quote

VWMIKE Posted February 2, 2009 Report Posted February 2, 2009 Has your bike thrown the chain lately? If so take a close look underneath the sprocket and see if it's leaking from a crack in the case, I thought my seal was leaking until a found a small crack. Quote
