Temp gauge

Im wanting to add a temp gauge in plain sight and have heard of some guys mounting them on the bars or close to the fenders, anyone done this or have ideas/pics?-Dan

CRJ Performance has one that splices into the coolant hose. Has on electronic readout that mounts to the handle bar. I have one and it didn't work worth a shit. They claim that it is electrical noise from the ignition systems that effects the analog reading. They recommend that the RTD is mounted up near the inlet to the radiator and the cable routed as far away from the ignition as possible and this fixes it. They are replacing mine free of charge to try again. I'll post the results after our trip to LS for Thanksgiving. As long as it works I think this is the way to go. Easy to read while riding and it has a large LCD display. No good for night riding though.

Did you try to run it with the NGK R plugs? i was told the r is for resistor and helps prevent these problems.. never tried it but might be worth a look, they are more pricey around here though.

i just got the vapor about two weeks ago and it's awesome just a few more bucks than the crj temp gauge but offers alot more. check it out i think its worth the few extra dollars. it mounts on the handle bars and has a very bright backlight.

x2 for the vapor. reads consistant temp plus the speedo, tach, hour meter, odometer. got mine from motosport.com for around $100.

Ditto. I can't see spending $70 for a gauge placed somewhere I can not read when I can get all the stuff the trailtech does for $100. Here is a crappy screenshot using the mounting hardware that came with it.

Yea, I remember someone saying they read twice the actual RPM. They're not made for 2-stroke applications. Or maybe that was an eBay tach, that was just a tach and nothing else. I do remember seeing that like 6-7 months ago, though.

I dont have a problem. How do you have yours hooked up. Mine was off when I hooked it up directly to the coil. I wraped the tach pickup wire around a sparkplug wire and it is was fine. You also have to set the vapor for 2 pulses per revolution.

not sure how to validate it, but the peak number looks correct and power band starts at about the right RPM, and the idle sounds accurate.

This, of course is after you set it to 2 pulses per revolution.

i had the same problem as booker. when i wrapped the wire around the spark plug wire it read right. i calibrated my spedometer with a gps and everything seems correct.
