  1. I've been wanting to go out west for some dune riding, but everyone always backs out...My only concern is trailering down to Cali... I don't really care to drive down there. But if someone doesn't mind runnin my quad down, I'll help pay for gas and I'll take a plane down there to meet you guys...Most of my friends can't really take that much time off, but thats my slow season exept for snowplowing, but my cousin can take care of that for me.....Any thoughts??? I'd love to hook up w/ a bunch of you, ride and shoot the shit around a fire....Maybe I'll get some Pt high rev headers for my shee for the dunes.....
  2. I don't know about other pipes, but I know the 28's didn't do that well on Chase73's shee neither. He has PC pipes and drag port...... He likes the stock carbs better......Sometimes I wonder if its the round slides or the larger carb....thats why I'd like to try a set of 26PWK's if they make them.....
  3. Ok heres the deal. The mains have absolutely NO control over idle. ONLY wide open throttle and thats it..To dial them in, run it wide open in 6th gear for 5-10 seconds and shut it down, coast to a stop and pull the plugs, tan or white is lean, brown is perfect, black is rich...I'd start w/ a 300-320 mains and go from there.... Your needles ONLY control 1/4-3/4 throttle. You can find the best position just by trying different positons and feel the difference by seat of the pants feel...I notice stronger pull at lower rpms and powerband kicking in sooner and at lower rpms... Next is your pilots and air screws which both control idle and throttle response. The air screws fine tune the pilots...A rich pilot will usually start easy when cold but starts hard when warm, you'll also have to keep revving the shee to Clean it out.. A lean pilot will start hard when cold and even warm...It'll also cause a great hesitation at off idle... W/ that being said, I have a couple of other q's for you...How did it run w/ the stock pilots?? How do you clean the K&N's?? What kind of cleaner you use? Do you still have the stock carb tops??
  4. Black and oily from normal riding right?? That'll give you false reading. You have to run it wide open throttle in 6th gear for 5-10 seconds and shut it down, then pull the plugs....You'll get a totally different result from normal riding....My plugs are always black and oily, but when I run it wot, it turns to a dry brown color...
  5. 270-290 mains, stock pilots, raise needles to the 4th clip from the top..
  6. I ended up going today also. There was only about 30 quads out there. 99nhbanshee was out there w/ his YZF450...He's definately getting used to it now. We had some good cliff climbing. I broke a bolt for my foot peg from hitting the hill so hard....His friends got a lot of filming too...Got to love those cameras!!!! We'll be riding for another month, then its sledding time, you should come back out just to run a video. I have a digital camcorder, but no one to run it..... Grab a 12 pack and have fun!!!
  7. I have cylinders that I took off my parts shee. They are red in color. The intake is stock size and polished, I haven't really examined the exhaust ports, but I'm pulling my shee totally apart this winter for another makeover and freshen up. Its been over 3 years since I've put a wrench on the motor...The ported carbs were done by ScottM. I believe he did them by hand but could be wrong...he did an excellent job, the walls were thin, but consistent all around...I couldn't tell any difference w/ seat of the pants, but did lose 2hp on the dyno across the whole curve....I agree and really like the stockers. I'd like to test some PWK26's and a 2into1 carb setup....
  8. Carb tops come w/ the carbs, the flat slides are supposed to be better for low end response, but not a lot of info for top gains...Stock size is 26, most people who ride trails and woods prefer the 28's, I wouldn't put a larger carb on unless your ported though. I lost 8hp w/34mmPJ carbs and lost 2hp w/ ported stock carbs....there was no gain anywhere and lost on bottom and top.....something to think about.....
  9. I don't care what ATV you buy, there is always better suspension out there...I have Works front and they work pretty well, my friend has Elkas and I don't see any difference exept the rear, but my rear is stock and his has Elkas....My cousin bought Works for his 400ex and had just as good results as the shee...The Honda suspension isn' t that great niether...
  10. That was you!!!! Nice shee!!! and fast. I might be working this Sunday coming up, but I'll be definately be down the following weekend. I'll try to make it though. I need a new clutch in my shee and would like to run you again just to see the difference...Are you going this sunday?? Hi, I sold the Banshee yesterday, but you'll probably be seeing it at Dayton, sold it to a friend from work. I bought another KFX700 yesterday, it was in an accident, when only 2weeks old. This will be my winter project. I'm going to make a drag bike out of it. I would like to find a 250R 3 wheeler front end to put on it. I'll see you in the spring at Dayton, I'll need to fine tune it before racing season starts !! My friend Jon with the Honda 370R had talked about you several times and it was great to finaly meet you !! I hope you come up and try your hand at the drags next year, it's really alot of fun !! Damn, you sold it!! Can't wait to see your next invention...I don't think I'll drag this shee. I took it to the Dayton drags when they were doing them...I'll get hooked and my shee will no longer be a hill climber... I dragged my street bike at Epping for a whole season. By the time I was done, it wasn't streetable....Too low to the ground and the 6"+ swingarm was dangerous in the corners (back end would kick out when I was on the throttle) I have some more mods for hill competition coming next spring....less weight and better rear suspension. I just found out my base gasket is leaking like hell....the shee is getting a total makeover this winter....Do you ride sleds??? I think I seen you two years ago at Poland Spring on Killit Pond(sp).....
  11. One bowl has a little jet and brass tube..the other doesn't...
  12. Is that the common Canadian chick like??? wooow hooo!!!!!! The good thing about the cold is the woman like the warmth.... The high revs will work just fine w/ stock carbs. In fact, the stock carbs will work better unless you port the cylinders....
  13. Possibly the carbs might be plugged?? Not the jets, but the passageways...Try blowing them out w/ an air compressor....Did you make sure you put the little equalizer tube on between the carbs?? (1/4"x2"long). That sounds more like the problem...also make sure you have the slides in the right carbs. Cutaway in the slides should face the air box...Make sure you didn't mix the bowls on the carbs...One of the bowls on the bottom of the carbs has a brass tube for the choke. If you swap the bowls, then the choke won't work right....That'll get you started....
  14. I wouldn't mind going some place different. Dayton is the bomb, but I've ridden in there since I was 10.....Time for new scenery.....
  15. Did you gain any power any where else? Or lose any?? Is this on a dyno or seat of the pants feel??
  16. 35 pilots will make it start hard. Why the hell would you want such a large pilot??? Go to a 30 pilot and start w/a 320 or 330 mains, needle in the 3rd or 4th clip fromt the top....
  17. I won't be in the pit tomorrow, but definately next weekend......Happy T-day everyone!!!!
  18. Don't complain, I'm in COLD, dense, dry air.....We'll be seeing 0 degree temps here in another month or so.....
  19. What did D&M set the head mods for??? 90 octane?? 93octane??? 100 octane?? Too much compression and not enough octane and walla!!! That would be my first guess.....Your timing would be stock unless you put a timing key or adjustable timing plate in....
  20. I only dynoed the stock cages vs. the ported cages. No gain, but no loss either....It didn't make any differences w/ the ported carbs either......I didn't dyno any Deltas, but wish I had some to dyno......maybe ported motors will have more results..
  21. Damn, rip your air box cover right off, if your only duning....Silicone the white plastic filter holder to the front of the air box and bolt it on....Either that or get a K&N w/ the aluminum flange or get twin K&N's...You'll gain so much more. The cover restricts the air flow a lot (about 4-5hp) W/ the cover off and at sea level, I'd try 300 mains, needle 4th clip from the top, stock pilots or 27.5, try both and determine which one works best for YOUR shee. Adjust the air screws to throttle response....
  22. Also did you try to dyno the intake separately also?? Thanks, this might give me a better understanding of what my setup is liking.....and not liking.....I did the larger carbs and intake together....
  23. I tried ported stock reed cages and ported stock carbs. Still no gain, lost 2hp. The ported cages did nothing..But I had the stock cages in when I had the 34's w/ the PD intake.....Damn!!! I wish I would have tried different cages then......How much gain did you get w/ the 34's over the stock?? Did you lose any down low?? Or gain??
  24. Could of been a bad plug wire. Could of switched the plug wires to find out..If not then it could of been no equalizer tube between the carbs, or a plugged jet.....You should of ask us before spending a fortune....I doubt its much of anything...you should have done a compression test before you sent it in. If the compression reads fine then your inside of your motor is fine....
  25. Don't worry, I will only use cast pistons. Either stock or Niks pro-x....the rings on the cast pistons will wear better due to the = expansion of the pistons and cylinders. I've been running cast for 5 years now and only lost 3 psi of compression. I swear by them and won't go back to forged, but thats my .02 and everyone has their oppinion, especially on this subject..
