  1. Gear it up to a 15 front tooth and it'll help kill the tire spin and get better traction..It'll also help acceleration where the shee has close gears already and you spend to much time shifting and not accelerating...This is for a piped shee w/ knobby tires. Sand tires require lower gearing then knobbies....
  2. You almost lost me. You said you want the banshee hit and not a 4-stroke, but then you say you want instant power and acceleration from corner to corner.......Well, then you'd want a low end like a 4-stroke.... Anyways from what your describing, I wouldn't go w/ the pc pipes....they are hesitant before powerband and hit extremely hard breaking the tires loose which isn't a good thing in the woods....I like the old gold series pipes. W/ the right jetting, they have great low end and top end....they really like the richer needles and see great gains....I'd definately stay w/ a midrange pipe.......which one is up to you...From your description, I'd go w/ Pt's....
  3. What don't you like about them???? They should pull really hard off the bottom and rev out more than stock....
  4. Don't worry, the shee can become anything you want it to...they are really underrated....You can make your shee handle unbelievalby different and wheelie just as easy as a z400.....cut and reweld the swingarm -2"....you will notice HUGE handling gains along w/ easier wheelies when you want....Do a search, there is a lot of info on this subject.....
  5. I think what he is sayin is that larger carbs could hurt more than help if you don't have enough internal motor work done... I know this from experience....I was running a 165 main for peak performance is still lost 8hp w/ my 34mm PJ carbs...I went back to stock... I also had a hard time getting throttle response, idle, and starting....W/ too large of a carb and not enough velocity, your carb won't run very efficient and will be hard to tune....W/ a list of your mods we could probably help a little there...
  6. Justintoxicated: A 40/1 mixture is leaner w/ less oil then a 36/1 mixture....looking at that pic, I'd say your either detonating since all the damage is perfectly centered or your running hot...What octane are you running and what is your compression?? Lefty: I learned that the hard way w/ my personal watercraft (jet ski). I had a big bore w/ high compression heads. The racer before me leaned out the oil injection and I was going through a set of pistons in 4 hours. Grenaded one of them. Finally I figured out the problem and WOW!!! Increasing the oil was an incredible difference... I gained 5mph on top speed and getting there was insane....That was all the proof I needed....I don't care if the oil is synthetic or not, I wouldn't go over 32:1 on any shee.....
  7. I dynoed my shee w/ and w/o and noticed an increase of about 2hp for about 1500rpms from whatever rpm that you hit the throttle from....so if your at 3000rpms and hit the throttle, then you'd see a 2hp increase w/ the stock tube from 3000rpms to 4500rpms... If you hit the throttle at 4000rpms, then you'd see a gain from 4000-5500rpms....needless to say, my stock tube is back on....
  8. The flange that holds the filter has a foam seal on the front where it mounts to the air box...sand will get by this and you'll notice your carbs will have sand in them. This sand will cause scratching and wear in the cylinders at a much faster rate...I've got almost 4 years now on my pistons and rings and only have a 3 psi lost on both cylinders.....A clean intake is crutial... thats why most shee owners will suggest the K&N w/ flange for the first mod..
  9. Did you check to see if your slides are in the right carbs?? The cutaway of the slide should face the air box, you can see it through the intake....
  10. Nobody said anything about Boysen reed petals....
  11. If you ride a great variety, then fatties are a great choice...I ride mostly 2-4th gear and would recommend Pt mids or fmf sst's...they work great for on/off throttle situations like woods riding and sand pits...If you rev more and have more open spaces, then I'd go w/ either Pt mids, fmf sst's, fmf fatties, dmc, or Bills..these are great all around pipes...for extreme open spaces like roads and desert, then go w/ toomeys, Pt highs, CPI, or Pc....
  12. Mud and snow.....no such thing A mud tire pushes water and loose mud away to get to hard bottom so you'd want a A shaped thread pattern like a tractor to push mud away.....The snow tire is basically a sand tire. You want it to scoop to stay on top of the surface and need maximum floatation...Basically, the mud tire is the opposite of the sand tire.. So to answer your question, there is no such tire...The realtor tire is reversable and rugged for both terrain. i don't care for them since I like to powerslide and ride aggressive, but might suit your need. Another option might be the mud sharks, work very well until they get down to half thread, but what tire doesn't...
  13. CPI's are out of the discussion..you don't want them for your type of riding.....Dmc, Pt mids, fmf sst's, bills, are great midrange pipes...Pt's are my personal favorite and have a touch of low end over the rest....the most low end power you can get w/ a twin pipe...I would strongely suggest them, they give awesome low end, midrange, and great gains of top end over stock....The 2 into 1 pipe has the most torque and low end w/ = top end power of stock....I've never ridden one, so I can't give my oppion on those....I have owned or ridden just about every pipe out there, but the 2 into 1....As far as info on performance, you won't get any accurate info....Dynoes are worthless compared to how the pipe actually performs....you don't get any hesitation, throttle response, or light switch powerband info from a dyno..Dynoes looks fairly close in comparison, but in real life, each pipe is totally different....your shee will be a different animal w/ different pipes...
  14. Sounds good, you should try a smaller pilot and let us know how you like that.....I think it'll improve your low end...my .02
  15. Agreed, the rich pilots are dumping a lot of fuel at half throttle...Drop the needles to compensate....
  16. I don't see any pics, but if the pistons have black carbon on them, then don't worry, its normal....If they are all pitted and silver, then you have issues...
  17. Yes the slides are the cylinders that move up an down in the carbs. Make sure they are all the way down...What are your mods??
  18. -2 swingarm... hands down....you can ride a wheelie at the balance point at 10 o'clock vs the stock swingarm at 12 o'clock..
  19. The Pc has no low end....If your always on/off the throttle, then I'd strongely suggest you get Pt mids, fmf sst's or Bills.....stay w/ a midrange pipe...National Banshee hit it right on the nose... Most people think they need a high rev pipe and think they will be faster, but in reality most of us need a midrange pipe for torque that'll help you go from corner to corner w/ NO hesitation and smooth powerband to hook up.... Its not how much power you have or how much your shee will rev, its WHERE you put the power that counts......I'd never go back to high revs ever again....most people who have ridden my shee and ride in my area will agree....Unless your riding desert, I'd stay away from high revs and you'll find your powerband so much better...
  20. .....hmmm.....I'd have to say Pc pipes, boost bottle, Bandit front tires, and 34mm carbs..... I know some people won't agree, but this is my opinion...the pc pipes hit way too hard causing more tire spin then needed and have no low end power, the boost bottle is just in the way of everything w/ no performance gain and a waste of $35, the bandit front tires are hard as hell feeling every little bump and catch everything on the trail like roots and whoops causing the handle bars to rip out of your hands, and the larger carbs just made my shee fall on its face......wasted $700 between carbs and intake manifold...
  21. Sounds like you have an air leak or one of your slides is sticking open....Your choke is killing the motor down...The higher revving is from too much air getting by the carbs and allowing the motor to rev up...What are your mods and jetting?? Also make sure you put the slides in the right way. Cutaway facing the air box...
  22. What I'm saying is that the richer oil mixture shouldn't be fouling plugs...I prefer a 28:1 mixture and leaner jetting....After all, the oil is YOUR lubrication.....Why lack on that?? Not enough lubrication and your shee will actually lose hp from friction and will wear your rings considerably..If your shee is fouling plugs, then the air/ fuel mixture is too rich causing the shee to flood out and foul the plugs...Too much gas and not enough air will cause the shee to not be able to burn all the fuel and foul out the plugs...Every shee is a little different and a lot of us should try different jetting regardless of advice...We can get most shee owners close to jetting, but you should adjust the jetting to YOUR shee, since every shee is different in different areas of the world....From my jetting experience on over 20 different shees in my area, I've never seen a shee like a larger pilot then stock or 27.5, but other shee owners have found the larger pilots to work better for them.....I can't see how, but I'm not in their location or terrain....Hope that helps...
  23. im running a 15/40.....most guys riding in dirt like the little taller 15, it makes your bike pull a little nicer than a 14.....i always try to find the spot in between lift and accelration, i want my gears stretched but i also want my front end to rise for ruts and whoops and such also your mods have a lot to do with how well your bike pulls those taller gears, the shorter swing arm helps get what ever you have to the ground, as well as handling better it also changes the weight distribution over the chassis, ive never ridden a shee with a -2 swing arm and stock a-arms though, it really works well when you have a aftermarket aarm thats forward an inch or two I ran my stock arms for a month or two before I got my 2+2's from Gary...Didn't really notice much difference for traction or shortness, ...Did notice a difference for powersliding w/ the wider stance though.... .. the best improvement was the front bumper not bottoming on steep jumps and hills....
  24. Mixture isn't what fouls plugs...I can run 20:1 and not foul plugs. I normally run between 24:1 or 28:1 and never fouled plugs.. If you are, then your jetting is off...maybe too large of a pilot jets??....
  25. Gas tank will come out...Just pull... I pull the back up first and to one side since the fuel petcock will catch up....Everything else is pretty simple, make sure you drain the antifreeze first. I disconnect the hose on the right side and tip the shee. Make sure you have a catch pan, it'll get messy...
