  1. You went the wrong way w/ the needle clip. Move the clip away from the blunt end.
  2. That is wierd, I run amsoil at 28:1 and my plugs are dark brown.
  3. Who was??? By the time I got my shee running right, seemed like everyone broke down. I know Rods shee was running strong the first day, did anyone take him? The weekend went by too fast. I can't claim any rights on this one. I wanted the title the second day, but Rods stator shit the bed.... OH well, Feb is around the corner....
  4. Let me know when you want to sell the +4, I'm sure Rod might be interested in the other one to. Maybe we can work out something. I still have your flywheel which was why my shee was skipping on high rpms. I even had it lightened thinking it was the stator that John let me use, but I found out after I put it back on the shee that its the flywheel..... Anyway, I also have that stock clutch. Let me know if you want me to wait till Cali or send them. I doubt you'll go to alky, that would mean that you'll have to ride your shee out of season to adjust it...
  5. We took the southern route below the lakes. I didn't want to deal w/ customs. Mapquest only should a 2 hour difference, but Mapquest was obviously off somewhere....The plot is on. Scare you??? No. Not till we beat you. We can't afford to have you upgrade before we go to Cali.... BTW, don't you have an extra +4??? Maybe that could slip into the mail and show up at my door???
  6. Dynoing w/o jetting is worthless. I have over 100 hours of dynoing on my quad between my stock stroke and my 4mil stroker. There is a 2hp difference for every jet size....So if you were off 1 jet size from one pipe, then there is your 2hp...never mind if your 2-4 sizes off.... The T5's like a lean needle, where the Pt mids like the richest clip position the needle offers. So given that, your jetting will be way off and the dyno comparisons aren't accurate. I've ridden about every pipe on the market. The Pt mids will outpull any other pipe besides the 2 into 1 off the lower rpms by far...The T5's probably and should make a little more hp since they allow the shee to rev a little higher. Given this, you'll get more hp out of more rpms...they go hand in hand. But its not always how much hp you have, but where you put it...As far as the rocket pipes having low end...I rode Minkias and it didn't have much low end at all, his jetting was off to so that wasn't helping. But he also has drag porting and a stroker, so as far as a normal port, I couldn't give an honest oppinion. They may work better....
  7. Taking the cover off will give you more hp's. If you need to leave it on, then just lean out the mains. By taking the air box cover off, your leaning it out. So w/ the cover on, you have to lean out the jetting.
  8. Drowning like gurgling like the choke is on or just hestitating before powerband? Try moving the needles.
  9. Plug color will change w/ a wot test. My plugs are black on normal riding and lighten up after a wot test...I've jump up a couple of sized and do a test....
  10. Couple of things. First thing I"d do is try different needle positions. Find the best clip position. I'd raise the needle back by lowering the clip. Once you find the best position, then adjust the air screw. The biggest thing though is that you've lost a lot of compression when you went to 6000'. You might want to look into a head w/ smaller domes. That enhance your lower end drastically and get you back to where you were. Give Dave a shout at Noss....
  11. The trip was awesome. Couldn't ask for better weather. Took me 20 hours straight driving. The truck made it.....both ways.... The stroker doesn't run for shit w/ stock silencers. Took me half the first day to figure that out after I rejeted twice. Put the Fat boys on and bought some spark arrestors and I was ready for racing, then everyone else broke down... The dunes aren't as tall as dumont and has more flat area. All in all though its a great weekend trip. Definately addicting w/ this duning thing. Looks like I'll have a +4 swingarm for Cali..... thats right Walter, the gloves are off!!! Rod and I have been sharing secrets....Too bad a lot of people missed out though. We had a blast. I met up w/ a few other HQ's. like always the HQ's are cool as hell. Get ready for Cali this February. There will be a trip then. Its in the making as we speak, so those of you who missed out can start planning now...I'll post the pics tomorrow.
  12. Bumping this back to the top for everyone....I'm leaving in a couple of hours so I'll see everyone there.....
  13. I just use the basic R-11 insulation... My original packing for my Pt mids only lasted a year......packing my silencers is fairly easy, so I just use insulation. One won't last much longer than the other and way cheaper. I repack mine in 5-10 minutes..
  14. I'd pull the pilots and inspect them. You should be able to see through them. The choke circuit will bypass the pilots, so I'm guessing the pilot circuit is plugged.....carb slides in the correct side? What have you done for finding air leaks?
  15. You can purchase firewood at the campsite or bring some. Does anyone know if I can purchase race fuel there??? If not, is there a somewhat close place?
  16. Try raising the needles? syncing does factor in, but the way you did it is the same way I suggest.....
  17. Your friends could also be melting pistons if they are running regular fuel w/ small cc domes like you are...Do a compression test and if your over 160-165psi then I'd be running at least a 50/50 mix of race fuel and high octane fuel. If not, you'll put a hole through the piston. Next, I'd throw a set of larger mains in there and do a wot test. Run in 6th gear for 5-10 seconds wide open, pull the clutch in, coast to a stop. Pull the plugs and see what color they are. Black is rich, dark brown is perfect, tan and white are lean. Keep us updated on your findings.
  18. I run a lot richer pilots in the pjs than the pwks. I'm running a 58 pilot and 175 main.
  19. That makes perfect sense. The leaner clip position will cause the powerband to hesitate and sometimes backfire. A really rich needle will cause it to spit and sputter like the choke on a car. A lean pilot will cause the shee to start hard when cold and hesitate before powerband. A rich pilot will make the shee start easy when cold, but hard when warm. It'll also make your shee sluggish before powerband and sometimes have to rev the motor to clean it out. A rich pilot will also make the plugs foul. For needle diameters: It narrows down the needle clip positions. It has the same effect as the clip position, but only at 1/4 throttle where the clip position effects 1/4-3/4 throttle...hope this helps
  20. so you think it might be the spacer plate causing this??? I don't think the spacer plate as much as the dome shape, squish, and compression. Get all 3 right and your combo will make it work....
  21. If he just rebuilt the shee and hasn't gotten it wide open yet, then the mains have nothing to do w/ his jetting problems yet. If your shee is running clean at half throttle, then the needles aren't too rich, if they were, then the shee would spit and sputter like the choke is on. If your fouling plugs, then it only leaves one circuit left. Thats why I suggest the pilot. Besides, my stroker w/ pwks don't even run that size pilot.
  22. Neither of us have the passion, but we both had different builders and had similiar dead spots like you guys. I had the spacer plate w/ stock head and Rod had his stock head cut for the 2mm.......
  23. Lower your pilot. Try a 45 pilot and go from there.
  24. I'll be riding in Michigan at sandfest.....
