  1. Dude, 300s sound lean to me. I run the same pipes, and the Toomey 2:1 air filter. I am at 370 mains, 30 pilots and air screws 1 1/2 turns out. Bike runs like a raped ape. The guy that is running 280 mains at sea level, you are sitting on a time bomb dude. Porting you will have to go up. Good luck.
  2. Thanks fellas. Troy, we are going Prez Day, then again 2 weeks after that, then the Dumont trip in March. Going to be some serious riding.
  3. I should be there by 3/4 in the evening. 2004 Blue F350 pulling a 30' Weekend Warrior.
  4. I'll be there evil. Hell of a pull with my trailer, but that will be a good test for the new truck coming in 2 weeks.
  5. Sweet, thanks Wheat. I will order that part. The procedure is outlined in my Clymers, no problem there. 200ft/lb torque wrench? No problem, I drive a F250, gotta have big tools to work on that truck.
  6. Thanks guys. I agree, I think it is the CDI. Can you replace this with an aftermarket unit that provides more spark and is a little cheaper? BenBB, I think a Electrical FAQ would be great.
  7. Negative. I used Red Loctite once and it lasted for about 2 seasons, then came loose again. I just redid it again at the beginning of this season. I want to know who can torque those down the right way? Were did you get the correct tool? You can order 1 for like $60, but holy cow that hurts.
  8. Totally agree with lining the paddles up. It does affect how the bike hooks up. I took the spindle off my bike when I first got it just to do this.
  9. For the coil, I tested just like Clymers says to. To check the primary, you put the negative from the meter to the black on the coil, put the positive on the meter to the orange on the coil. For the secondary, you put the black on the negative of the coil and put the red on one of the high tension wires(plug wires) coming out of the coil.
  10. Update, Both his coil and mine test the same. Both his ignition switch and mine test the same. So, I think I have ruled out the coil, ignition switch, on/off switch,
  11. My buddy from work rides with the group from Roostfest web site all the time. He told me about going and showed me the list of people and I started recognizing names from this site. BenBB, fixitrod etc. I plan on going. Should be fun.
  12. I burn about 10-15 gallons on a 3 day weekend. I have big jets and run about 6 hours per day. We ride hard.
  13. Hey guys, My buddies bike won't start. He was shooting the hill at Gordons Well, running good. Went to the bottom, HE shut the bike off. Then when he went to start it again, nothing. Plenty of fuel. No spark, took plugs out, tested at night, nothing. I ohmed out the on/off switch on the bar, good. He has no TORS, been disconnected. Emergency brake works fine. I ohmed the coil, primary is .9, secondary shows nothing. Clymers says it should give around 5000ohms on the secondary. The ignition switch acts funny. Shows 0 ohms whether it is on or off. When you are kicking it over, you can see the lights come on just a little, so I figured the stator was ok. It does have some rust, but it always has looked like that. Right now I am guessing the coil. I am going to ohm mine out and see what it reads. If my coil acts like his, it is not the coil since mine runs fine. I guess we can start swapping parts, but I wanted some input first. Thanks
  14. Ditto on Az. I am in Mesa Az, part of Phoenix. I ride the dunes from Oct 15 to the end of March. Average is 65-70F during the day. Wouldn't give it up for anything.
  15. A lean bike will run good.... but not for long.... gotta check your plugs. Don't be scared to go big on the mains.
  16. I see you are at sea level. What air filter setup are you running. I would not listen to Toomeys instructions, they are off. I run the 2:1 air filter system and am at 370 mains with 30 pilots and all I run is at Glamis. Bike runs great. Oh yeah, winter at Glamis is average 65F during the day.
  17. Dude that was funny as hell.
  18. 30C is 86F. 250 mains, it is only a matter of time. Then your next post will be... "I am losing power... why?" or "My motor locked up, what could it be?" Maybe a melted piston.
  19. What ledofthezep said, get a Clymers. Very good instructions. You only adjust the carb with the choke on it if you have to make any adjustments.
  20. Sounds like you are pretty rich. Reeds will richen up your bike a bit since they are more responsive and open easier. At that elevation, with the air box lid on, I would be at about 260-270 on the mains, stock pilot or maybe 27.5 and if you have stock needles, leave them in the middle. Air screws at 1.5-2.0 turns out. Always remember, do a plug chop, that will tell you.
  21. He is saying Wow because that is a small main jet for pipes and no airbox. Your bike may run good, but it won't run good for long. You are more than likely, pretty lean. I run 370 mains at 500' elevation with the pipes and air filter in my signature. This is assuming you are not at 6000' elevation. Are you???
  22. Go to the tips & tricks forum. Do a search. You will find my solution to this problem.
  23. No other help???
  24. Mesa Az. Only 3 hours from Glamis!!!!!
  25. Thanks evil. The closest I will come is to Glamis next weekend. Need to get one before then so the kid doens't throw a fit cause he can't ride his bike.
