Currently drive a F250 Diesel, 2002. For Sale Going to get one of the new F350 with the new motors. I will race some of you little rice rockets. I'll bet I can take ya too.
-
I own a diesel, and you guys won't belive how cool these trucks are. I will never own a gas motor in a truck again. I can hook up my 12,000lb toyhauler, set the cruise at 78mph and never look back. Diesels are the shiat!!!!!!

Back to the question, I agree with the right crankshaft seal. Edited by: TXBLUESHEE.... The problem has been taken care of.

May is wayyyyyy tooooo hot dude. I live in Phoenix Az and by May, it is hitting 100 during the daytime. No way would I go to the dunes.
-
It is going to be freggin cold!!!! I lived at Lake Powell for 6 years and this time of the year, the high isn't much more than 45. Dunes are not that great, pretty small. No real big hills.
-
I would still go higher if I were you. A lean bike will run very good, but not for long. You should go up on the mains until you start bogging, then go down 1 size. My buddy has FMFs and runs 350 mains at Glamis and bike runs great.

Coolio!!! Yeah, the carbon petals are just a tad bigger than the openings in the white piece. Once it is on there and I hold it up to light, it looks correct. I will put it back together. Thanks again.

There are only 2 pieces, the large white piece and the smaller carbon fiber petals. The number on the package says they are the right reeds for the Banshee. I checked Boyesens web site. Thanks for staying with my on this one Banchetta. I hope they are the right ones.
-
If there shouldn't be a gap between the reeds and the block, then these are the wrong reeds, because they don't even come close to matching the holes. I don't think they would go on top of the white piece, then both sets would have to open at the same time because the solid reeds are bigger than the holes in the white piece. Crap, I don't have my receipt anymore and I don't remember where I bought them from. I guess I can call Boyesen and ask them. They are called Dual Stage Carbon Fiber reeds, so I assume the dual stage part comes from the white piece and the solid carbon colored reeds?

So does this look right?

It came off from where it clamps onto the carbs. Here is my theory. I hadn't taken the filter off for 3 trips, outerware was still clean. So I think that the oil from the filter, a little ran down the intake tracts and got between the rubber and the carbs and got slippery and came off. Combination of time, oil and vibration. I never thought about Automotive clamps, maybe I will give them a whirl. Any particular size? I didn't think they would work because of the indent in the rubber where the stock clamps are supposed to go. BTW, I have heard of more pods coming off then the 2:1s. I ordered a new on and will run the same thing. To not let the outerware melt, go buy some high temp Silicon hose and put in on your pipes where the filter touches. Then the filter can rest on the hose and you don't have to worry about it. I have never had a problem. I will post pix of it when I get it back together.

Ok, that is what I did. I knew you ditched the stock reed stops. Thanks
-
Just barely made it in that 31-33 range.
-
Ok, I am putting in my new carbon fiber reeds. When I opened the package, there is the reed plate, the reeds themselves(grey in color) and a plastic white deal under the reeds. So do I put the plastic white deal on first, then the reeds on top of that? And of course the reed plate on top of that. You ditch the stock reed plate right? Thanks
-
thats what I got dude. They are mounted on Douglas Black Label Rims.
-
My buddy just did his, you have to drain the oil, pull the clutch basket and then the shaft will slide out. While you have it out, replace the oil seal that is on the shifter side of the bike. It will start leaking eventually, mine did.

I've got a set of Trakkers I might part with. Good paddle for a molded paddle. No one likes to ride behind me because of the amount of sand they throw.
-
Ok, way cool. I just pulled the carbs and reed cages off. There was NO sand or anything on the side of the carbs going into the reeds and the reeds looked perfect. Cylinder walls and pistons look great. I think I got lucky. Going to clean everything up and put it back together. Thanks for the help. Linc

One thing you need to think about with paddles and sand is weight. Sand sucks alot of power, so the lighter you can be, the better. I noticed a huge difference when I went from my molded paddle mounted on Douglas Black Labels(heavy duty rims) and I went with Skat Trak Edges mounted on Douglas Blue Label rims. Skat Traks are shaved tires with paddles "glued" onto the tires. They are about 5lbs lighter apiece and really helped.

Those 2 big knobs are not for syncing the carbs, those are for adjusting the idle. To sync the carbs, you only use the left side carb. There are 2 nuts that the cable runs through, the big one is for holding, the little one is the one you turn to adjust the slide height. Clymers says never to adjust the right carb.

I don't think much, but I am a pessimist, so I am expecting the worst. I'm going to tear it apart tonight and see what I can see. I know putting my little finger into the reed cage came back with hardly anything.
-
Ok, I am not picturing something here. If you spray WD40 into the bottom end and the motor is still in the bike, where does the WD40 go? This is probably due to me never taking a bike that far apart.
-
fixitrod, What would I clean the bottom end out with? Would it be easier to pull the whole motor out to take the cylinders off if I need to? Thanks
-
Well guys, On the last trip back to the trailer, I was going kind of slow when I could hear a drastic sound change, it was my 2:1 Air Filter coming off. I stopped pretty quick, but obviously it was too late. Sand in the motor. So, I haven't torn it apart yet, but what is worst case? Could it have gotten into the lower end? It didn't seize, but......... My other concern is the carbs, are they shot? Or can you just clean those up and use them again. Any and all inputs would be appreciated. Especially if someone has gone through this before.
-
You are lean dude. I would put in 27.5 pilots and start at 300 mains, especially with the cool temps you are seeing. I am running a 2:1 air filter with 30 pilots and 370 mains and my bike pulls like a raped ape. And I am at 1500' elevation, but at Glamis I am lower.
