  1. im actually running a bit rich. is there a way of knowing if its the main jet vs pilot or air screw setting?
  2. should get my plugs and some jets (just in case) in a few days. so when I do a plug chop, if only the pilot jet is lean, will I be able to tell or is that unlikely? say I find that its lean, id have to change the main jet and everything? I hear the pro circuits like to have fatter pilot jets since theres more lower end power. id change the main, adjust the needle, then do the pilot jet?
  3. pilot jet anyways. otherwise it seems to run great. but again plug chop.
  4. lol ya I need a manual. is it weird that with the air screws 2 turns out or more, it feels boggy until the powerband? when I had it 1-1/4 turns out, it ran ok with no bog. but ive read that if its less than 2 turns you need a bigger jet. it eats a lot more gas too lol im glad I checked my gas.
  5. ill order more plugs to see if it is in fact properly adjusted though
  6. oh ok ill do that to be safe. because im not sure both sides are adjusted the same, and that wasn't from me so im not sure why its like that. and id better see what they look like. ya it took a full turn and 1/2 to make it run right, and then one more quarter turn (one or 2) to take out the bog on the acceleration.
  7. got it down now. it totally worked. i had to turn it in like a turn and a half. but that stopped it from running so hot and then a few quarter turn adjustments took away the bogging feeling when accelerating. now its smooth. pretty stoked. pro circuits have some gnarly lower end power. thanks a lot, ive learned a lot about the carbs lol
  8. ya i think youre right. I looked at the first set just from adjusting the air screw a turn in, I think im close. has a lil oil on the cone but atleast its not real lean. im surprised how big of a change it made with just a turn or 2.
  9. so a plug chop is the best way to tell. seems like ill personally have to use a few sets of plugs to dial it in lol.
  10. so adjusting the air screws seems to make a big difference. its hard for me to tell which way is better though but turning them to the left (opening them up?) seems to make it worse. seems like it bogs more which doesn't make sense to me since that's leaning it out right? so weird sounding with the silencers on it. I don't like em haha.
  11. The plugs did look a bit dark and oily but I don't think it looked too bad. Can u post pics here? I replaced the plugs and just idled it for a bit and when I pulled em out they were still clean with a little oil on the ring. But I probably didn't run it long enough to tell. It could be rich though because there is more smoke than before and it seems sluggish not hesitant before the powerband and then it takes off. I'll have too look up plug and chop.
  12. thanks for the help btw, I know its impossible to really know without seeing it in person lol
  13. im pretty sure my cylinders are stock but the previous owner believes it was bored slightly over. the head is stock. ill start with trying to adjust the needle and the airflow like you suggested and see what happens. it kind of runs like crap with the choke pulled though which is odd if its lean right? but my new pipes are discolored blue about 8 inches from the head so I know its running hot.
  14. ok I got it mostly apart except for the needle because I need a smaller screwdriver. but my main jet is 330. that should be pretty rich right?
  15. Are they marked? I'll put new plugs in maybe today and see if it is in fact lean and then maybe I'll look at the jetting. Not even sure how yet lol.
  16. I think they're stock carbs but I'm sure the jets aren't. I'm not sure about the jets. Unless there's a way to tell.
  17. After I put em on I rode it because I didn't know you needed to reject. I thought you just swapped out pipes lol. But I could tell something was weird because it seemed kinda slow to accelerate until it hit the powerband. It also seemed to smoke a little more and sounded a little tingy in the exhaust though the sound was already weird to me because of the silencers. And the pipes were turning blueish from the heat right at the engine. So I didn't ride it long. Just up the road and back. Pretty sure it's lean but I haven't gotten to check plugs yet.
  18. I bought my 96 banshee about 6 months ago and I've been doing a lot of trail riding. Super steep, Rocky hills and such. I was running Toomey t5s with the Toomey shorties but they were rusty and I heard pc platinums give better lower end power so I decided to switch. I'm at 4000 feet, running pc platinum with 296 silencers (I know! I'll prbly go with 304s later but they were free lol). Open airbox with a uni which I might change later. Not sure what jets are on there but I'm wondering what size range I should be in so I don't have to get a bunch of sets lol.
