  1. Welcome to BHQ! If u are following the owners manual for fuel oil mix, it's to much oil, and will lead to fouled plugs. 32:1 to 40:1 seems to be about what most people here use and recommend. If you are already at 32:1 to 40:1, then you maybe bit rich.
  2. Good for you. Keep us posted on how its running. I dont think there should be a flat spot? Is it in the mid to top, or just the top end? I wonder if at your altitude if maybe one more size down might help? The higher the altitude, the smaller the jets u need (less air at altitude equals less fuel required). If your mid range is hesitating, you may need to lower the needle a bit (by raising the clip).
  3. Did your old setup pull cleanly at all rpms? What alt and temp are u at? Do you have any mid range stumble when going from low rpm to high rpm? I had that problem and ended up dropping the needle (leaner) 2 clicks. Are u going to be using the new needles? Put the new needles in mid clip and do some testing. Why would you need custom domes for 93? The off the shelf 20 or 21s should be fine? Maybe u were too rich on the old setup? I've learned that carb tuning is easy, but it takes some time and experimenting. When I was first learning, I got some help from guys in the about box.
  4. Try the 280 mains and the smaller pilot jet, like the toomey size. Should get you very close. You should be at 1.5 turns out on air sscrew as your initial setting. Then If that runs Ok, get rid of any mid range issues with small changes in the needle clip. idle to 1/4 throttle = pilot jet mid range = needle clip top end/ full throttle = main jet Only make one change at a time. 32 to 40:1 seems to be the best mix range.

  6. Damn dude.... you must have around 70 or so HP, and you want more power??? I guess you get used to the power.... Do you have traction? I just have all the bolt ons and I just send a big old rooster tail behind me. Maybe a 8mil? IDK... Maybe get a Raptor and turbocharge it?
  7. What he said. Al's advice on all his comments are spot on. Get some pump premium, new plugs (consider brand new stock yamaha plug wires), and I bet it will run better just getting the correct fuel in. You are close on jetting, and once you get the right gas in there, you might even end up going a little smaller, or just moving the needle down a notch (clip up equals needle down). 1 thru 3 gears aren't very good to find rough spots, since the gearing is keeping the load on the engine from building.
  8. 55 pilot is very big... Especially at 2500 above sea level. I would imagine you might have a bit of a stumble just above idle? No wonder it smokes. definitely consider going down to a 50 or maybe a 48 (possibly smaller even), when it pulls clean from idle to 1/4 throttle, you have the right size pilot jet. The main seems big to me as well.... Im not sure what you need for that setup, since its quite a bit different from mine. Im sure someone with a similar setup will chime in. Post in the shout box for help if necessary. I would buy some jets in each increment, 3-4 sizes smaller than what you have, sync the carbs real good, get fresh gas and plugs, and go to town on it.   10. I have PWK 28s. I got them from PJ motorsports (Forum sponsor). They are nice quality, and easy to jet and work on. the 28s fit with the stock manifolds, not sure about 30s. 28 seems plenty unless you are a serious drag racer with a BIG motor looking for that last bit of top end power. Started first kick after install.
  11. I don't think your bike is seriously screwed up. Possibly a little too much oil in the mix, and possibly a too big Idle jet, or a bit of both. See my above post, I think the bike just needs some luv.
  12. Just wondering. If I had that banshee, I would: 1. Drain the existing gas... the bike obviously hasn't had much luv, so there is no reason to not assume that gas is old and stale as hell. 2. Pull the carbs, and clean them carefully, and one at a time. Check the jets and note what size they are. They are probably the ones that come with the toomey perfect jet kit. 3. Check your intake manifold boots for cracking. Go over the whole engine while you are at it, looking for things that don't look right. 4. Do a compression test. 5. Put the fresh 93 octane at about 36-40:1 in the tank. 5. Put fresh, correct gap spark plugs in. 6. Sync the carbs. Clean and lube and WD 40 everything on the bike while you are at it. Consider: When you are on the line with Toomey for the repack kit and the new muffler C Clips, maybe consider ordering new mid pipes (or if your on a budget sand and high temp rattle can those ugly suckers? Report back here... congrats, you just saved a Banshee from the IPO who didn't know how to luv/care for an awesome machine! Enjoy, and you can get lots of advise from some smart Banshee owners here.
  13. Im with True.... much easier to get more power and more aftermarket support for your mods. Get some PWKs and your will be good.
  14. Im not sure you listed all your mods? If you have a wiseco crank, there is a good chance you have a cool head and some domes? If this is the case, keep running the high octane mix or you risk blowing up your banshee. Welcome to BHQ, and post up some pics! There are a lot of smart helpful people here.
  15. Welcome to BHQ! Im pretty new here, but Ive been tearinig into my Banshee and I just re-jetted my PWKs. I got a lot of great advise here, and I feel Im actually getting good at the jetting process. The Banshee is easy to work on IMO, as this is my first experience with adjusting carbs and jetting, and it's not hard at all. First read the jetting forum FAQ sticky about what is jetting. Make sure the carbs are synced up good before you start messing with the jetting, also make sure you have a good mix ratio (most like around 32-40:1), of fresh premium gas, and a new pair of properly gapped spark plugs installed. 1. First pull the main jets and get the size. It really easy on a PWK, you can just pull the carb off the manifold, turn the carb upside down (gas will spill, so have a rag underneath it), and unscrew the 17mm plug in the bottom of the carb bowl. Then the brass jet looks like a hex nut with a hole in it. I use a jet wrench (FAST sells them cheap) to remove the jet, or you can use a real small socket wrench (Maybe 4mm???). 2. Once you know the size, order up some jets 2-3 sizes bigger and smaller. Turn your air jet screws all the way in, then back out 1.5 turns. You can do this part when your syncing. 3. Once you get the new jets, go up one size, test ride the bike... if it gets better, you know your heading in the right direction (it may only get marginally better on one jet size). If it gets worse, you probably went in the wrong direction. (I wouldn't mess around with needle clip location until I had both the top end and bottom end pulling smooth) 4. Check out the plug chop info available in the jetting forum. Here is some troubleshooting info I got of the net: DIAGNOSE WHICH AREA YOUR PROBLEM IS LOCATED 1. Start to Idle - Replace Pilot Jet 2. Idle to Mid Range - Needle Jet Adjust Clip 3. Full Throttle – Replace Main Jet BIKE TOO RICH Smaller Size Pilot or Main Adjust Air Screw Down or in makes Minor Adj. Moving Clip on Needle Up BIKE TOO LEAN Larger Size Pilot or Main Adjust Air Screw Up or Out makes Minor Adj. Moving Clip on Needle Down Good Luck and keep us posted... we need pics of your bike as well. Remember to come here if you have questions.

  17. If you have trouble finding J arms, It might be only a few bucks more to get a newer model A Arm Frame and transfer everything over, or maybe find a rolling chassis cheap.
  18. I agree... but Im new so I don't have as much credibility. You just get a ballpark jet size from someone with a similar setup... then experiment up and down as necessary to get rid of the rough spots if it has any. Idle to 1/4 throttle is low speed jet, then full throttle is the main. If there are any midrange issues, clip the neddle a bit as necessary (if you can't get it 100% good with the main jet). Its really not that hard......this is my first time jetting a bike, and with the help of the internet and BHQ ist has been fun and easy. I still say get rid of the single carb setup if your budget allows for it.
  19. Yeah I wouldn't want to be the a-hole flying down the street on an ATV in a residential area. there is nowhere you can put-put over to do a little riding I guess? I think guys with similar mods to you are running 290? You might just have to suck it up and take your plugs, jets and tools to where you can really ride it.
  20. 4th gear is fine, you dont need all gears. Make your changes one at a time. If it feels like you are going in the right direction, change it, then do a plug chop. Im sure someone with more experience than me will chime in. Good luck and keep us posted.

  24. Welcome to BHQ! These bikes are so fun to ride and fun and easy to work on. Yeah as mentioned, the forum venders will be able to hook you up with a bore and pistons. If you budget allows, it might be a really good time to consider getting the cylinders ported a bit as well. Keep us posted on your results, there are a lot of helpful people on the forum in case you have questions.
