thought i would mention the 280-290 was with aftermarket reeds. stock reeds would be 300-310

you are missing the fact that it's cold outside and until the engine achieves operating temps it's gonna run lean. if once warm you still have to choke it then you may look into the fact yo could have a air leak. i have had similar setups and 280-290 was all i needed and stock 25 pilot.

you are gonna have to clean the top off better than that. sand paper works pretty well to highlight the letters

have you tried pulling the choke while riding to see if it helps? did you leakdown the motor to make sure you got it sealed up good? a clean bog is signs of being lean. if it's a rough bog and smoking a lot it maybe rich, but doesn't sound like it.
