  1. I ended up at 330 mains and 27.5 pilots. I run fmf fattys and I have the lid on my air box with an aftermarket filter. My elevation is 2000 feet and the temp was about 80. It is probably a little rich but I like to run my bikes that way. That way when it cools off I don't have to jet up. I have never had a problem with plug fouling. I like my plugs to look chocolate brown but I know some that run them light brown with no issues. When I bought my bike it had 270s in it and the filter had no oil on it, so I guess that is why both pistons had holes in them. My advice would be start high and work your way down. 400 is probably way too high though.
  2. I would tell them to keep it. I have less than that in my banshee motor. I bought a freshly rebuilt bottom end with a hot rods crank in it and brand new clutch for 350. Put a fresh topend on it and away I went for less than what those crooks are getting you for.
  3. Anyone ever run the 4snos on sand. I have seen it done but never got a chance to catch up with the guys running them. How do they compare to other paddles?
  4. I run the FMF fattys and I think they are a good trail pipe that can be had for little money. I also hear the Pro circuits are awesome. I will be putting a set of Rocket 2 pipes on when I get back in the states. I can't wait to try them.
  5. The z400 and the raptor are probably the best trail machines I have ever ridden. That being said, I love 2 strokes and the power they deliver. 90 percent of my riding is sand trails and the banshee works flawlessly. 10 percent is tight wooded trails with alot of obstacles. I have a 400 4x4 scrambler for this type of riding. The banshee is an absolute blast on the trails as long they are somewhat groomed. It is always my first choice and everytime I take it out, it manages to scare me at some point.
  6. I'm by no means a guru but I have been running a similar question around in my head. I have polaris 2 strokes as well as a banshee. My 400 sport runs damn near dead even to my banshee in a 300' race. Both bikes have the same mods (pipe, air filter mod and shaved head. the sport has a lightened flywheel and a bigger carb) but the sport is a little heavier and has a PVT trans in it. This is really an apples to oranges comparison. These 2 bikes are totally different to ride trails but in a drag race they run so close. It is fun to watch though because the sport gets beat off the line everytime due to the clutch but it launches pretty consistantly and ends up running the banshee down. I guess to relate it to your obsevations: There is no doubt that the bike with the single larger piston has a broader power band where as the banshee has a very narrow power band. This could be due to alot of different factors though. All I know is that they are both a blast to ride.
  7. Well sounds like you have something strange going on but I will share my experience anyway. The first time I tore my banshee down I failed to reinstall the tube between the carbs that connects the choke circuit. I battled with it for a few evenings because when I tore it down the tube fell off on its own and I didn't even know it was suppose to be there. The bike wouldn't even think of firing, intalled new piece of tubing and it popped on the second kick. Something quick and easy to check for I guess.
  8. I have had no real issues with the stock carbs. I just figured before I modify them with the TORS removal I might try this. I was thinking maybe I would see a little better bottom end and not completely kill the topend. I am probably putting the cart before the horse as i haven't even tried the R2's yet. From everything I have read the R2s are an improvement over the fattys, more topend with similar low to mid range. I may just have to try this for myself and see how it goes.
  9. I have a vm 34 laying around that came off of one of my polaris scramblers that recieved and upgrade. I have been reading that a 2 into 1 setup helps with lowend performance. My bike only has bolt ons and that is probably all it will ever have. I currently run +4 timing, shaved stock head, Fmf fattys (soon to be R2s). My bike currently has TORs and instead of eliminating them I thought this might be a good upgrade. So has anyone tried it? I did a search and could only find guys that where running them in a dual setup. I see people running 34 pwks in a 2 into 1 and I have had better luck with VMs on my polaris' vs the pwk carbs. Thanks for any input.
  10. Overall I like mine they hit pretty hard in the mid range but kind of fall off earlier than I like. They are the only pipe I have run but I will be putting some rocket R2s on this winter. I know the pro circuits come highly recommended from those that run them. I would agree with what others have said.
  11. well thanks for the info. I think if I do this I am going to go with the raptor shocks. So just to make sure I'm clear on this. If I use raptor shocks I have to use raptor a arms or both raptor and yfz front suspensions interchange?
  12. Also one other thing. I have been reading that the upper ball joints aren't serviceable. Does this mean they aren't replaceable without buy a new upper. Sorry but I come from a history of polaris 2 strokes and dual a arm setups are new to me. Part of my reason for looking at this mod in the first place is to get a arms that have removable ball joints. As I stated earlier mine are toast and while I didn't tear it down to look, I was told that stock banshee arms have non replaceable ball joints. Are the YFZ's the same way?
  13. thanks for all the replies. I am currently in afghanistan so I won't get at this for a few months yet. I am trying to gather info and parts for now. So for the raptor guys, will any year raptor parts fit? What would be the best year for the yfz to get the parts from? I also found the thread below and it was very helpful but it is long and kind of bounces all over the place. Most of my riding with this bike is done in tight sandy wooded trails.
  14. Just to be clear I want to swap the a arms and all. I know I have read about people doing just the shocks and I can see why that is a bad idea. But are you saying that the complete conversion is a bad idea?
  15. I am looking for info on upgrading my banshee's suspension. I have a 96 that I bought as a basket case and the a arms and shocks are toast. I was going to replace the a arms with some after market and then replace the shocks later. I started seeing that some have put a arms and shocks from a yfz 450 on their bikes. I tried doing a search but my searches returned nothing. Is this a pretty straightforward swap? I do mostly trail riding and my bike has very minor motor mods done to it. This bike tends to be a handful in its current state and a suspension/brake upgrade is definitely in order. Thanks for any info.
  16. so are you getting rid of the paul turners? I would be interested if you were.
  17. I will take the pipes and silencers too if they will work on the pipes. Shipping would be to 51106 pm me with a total if the pipes are still available.
  18. got any pics of the nerfs. I would be interested in them.
  19. this is going cheap. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130336114636&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK%3AMESELX%3AIT
