yeah i do agree you get what you pay for but the saying"whats another $500"?You must be kidding me thats serious coin in these parts especially when this is a hobby.$500 mite keep a family in their home for 1 more month.
-
just like anything else results will vary.Putting new pistons in worn out bores is going to cause problems regardless of make.Hell i had a set of namura pistons in a banshee a few yrs back that never gave me problems.Cant cut corners because one doesnt want their banshee down and avoid bore jobs.

thinking bout buying these pipes just on the looks alone, they do look sick!Yeah they appear to stick out and could be leg burners but so what,if they rip and look good what more can you ask for...lol

bills possibly?

new here need help jetting my 370 race port with keihin 34pj
armyvet replied to aserna's topic in Jetting & Exhaust Forum
you want to turn the air screws in to richen.... -
yeah sounds like your rich, try turning the air screw out a bit.Mine had a sputter down low i had to drop the needle(raise clip) 1 notch.
-
yeah its gonna come down to preference,i had the single set up on my last banshee and it ripped especially the full throttle launches in 2nd gear needed for some of the hills and slag pits around here, plus ease of tuning. Now i have the dual carbs on my current banshee and i like it as well but this banshee has a more aggressive port job on it so i may run duals for awhile.Youll still have plenty of topend with a single dont be mislead.Bottom line is just preference, the banshee is still a twin cylinder 2 stroke so itll still scream regardless of aspiration. If you dont want to tune 2 carbs then go single.

check for spark, check jetting and confirm you dont have a head gasket issue
-
In addition to a bit of porting,a bump in compression will help you on the low end and good midrange punch and will still pull good up top.Im not trying to get on a bandwagon like a lot of people but with my set up the pro circuits rip but i like my fmf also. The 4mil will give you more grunt but dont expect it to be 4 stroke like.Bnahsees are screamers anyhow...lol

While i agree porting is something that does require a bit of knowledge its not exactly a "black art" as soome will lead one to believe.Everybody had to start somewhere, not like theres a banshee tuning school.Half of these so called banshee "experts" where nowhere around in the early 90s.I say start small with lil'bit of touch ups before trying to get carried away.Hogging out ports wont necessarily give you the most power>Its all about velocity and volumetric efficiency, its bacically a air pump.Been doing my own cylinders since 89'.a wise man once told me"people that have never f@#ked anything up have never did anything".Only 1 way to learn, you mess up banshee cylinders are easy to come by.just my .02
-
generally your jetting wont be affected but i like to go up 1 size just to be on the safe side when using full throttle for a piece of mind.Anybody with any history with banshees know how temperamewntal they can be...even with small minute changes.

need advice on jetting my 02 shee
armyvet replied to bns_blueticks's topic in Jetting & Exhaust Forum
i said 280 because i have a full on agressive port joib and im running 350>i do have the 2into 1 toomey air filter though..just keep and eye on your plugs -
Mine did that after a rebuild and i was trying to dial jetting in since i had changed so many things at once.I was still lean on the mains and i ended up going a bit richer on the air screws.poping is USUALLY a lean condition from jetting or air leaks.Make sure plugs are tight too

armyvet replied to bns_blueticks's topic in Jetting & Exhaust Forum
normally i would think 250ish but since you have the pod filters i would start at 280 or so on the mains just to be safe. You might end up a size or so smaller but start high and watch plugs.search this forum lots of guys runnin similar setups.good luck to ya -
ur gonna have to start eliminating things step by step,it could be a number of things.I would start with the carb first.Make sure its good to go.Make sure you didnt break off a reed petal too since ur in there. Also try swapping ignition coils. They are known to be culpirts on the top end.The side that looks lean is the cylinder wet?Could be a leaky headgasket too,i have personally experienced this.As stated with a twin it can be a number of things
-
yeah i would think 118 is way lean, youll blow that thing up.Even at 50,000ft elevation that would be lean..lol i ran a 180 main or so on my trininty single carb set up a couple yrs back here in oh.

Exhaust port roof shape vs power characteristics
armyvet replied to SlowMoe's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
interesting thread. As far as porting goes,i wouldnt advise against it if one doesnt have a clue as to what they are doing. But since i have been doing all my stuff for the past 20yrs or so,i have no problem gettin her done.Thats the fun part of building performance. Those are the true ones the are passionate and are willing to learn what makes things run and not just by maxin out daddys credit card paying some yo yo to do it.Its not some type of black art. Some of you guys need to play nice, its ok to disagree without name callin. -
i like the throttle response of stockers for the trails
-
dont worry about removing a float, dont concern yourself with that stuff. Those mods are for the races that can run a float bowl dry in a short time.Properly set your floatr height and b done with it.Dajo is gonna have some of you guys all F@)ked up lol
-
i would try for a set of keihin pwk 28mm if you can get them cheap enough.otherwise stock s arent bad when properly set up.You really dont want to overcarb a banshee unless your riding in the top end exclusively, you really dont want to lose what low end you already have.i run a similar set up with stock carbs and pc pipes and its a blast for the trails and hills.almost too much sometimes in the woods but the stockers are that snappy when set up.In ohio im running 350mains currently as well.Have some 36mm pjs i may try eventually but not in a rush because it runs so good now.decent bottom with a hard hitting midrange and top end pull as well.

What is the best pipe for trail riding?
armyvet replied to bennny's topic in Jetting & Exhaust Forum
i think the fattys are just more popular.I love my pro circuits but the fattys i had were good on the trails as well. They were fixed in a few spots and not real pirty. My pc's are shiny and new so i got'em..lol but the fmfs were good -
shift forks control the gear position by the notches on the "drum".if they are wore out or bent then they will not always engage the gears completely.you could have a tooth broke or even a washer or shim missing if a incompetent yoyo was working on it previously.when you get something used who knows what youll find when you get into it.some guys cut corners to to get back in the trails while some guys fix trhings right.if he said it was "acting up" again i wouldnt have went ahead with the trade especially with tranny issues.hopefully its not nothing major. If you cant do the repair yourself a shop is gonna juice you for $75/hr labor.Banshees are pretty simple fortunately so grab a manual and git'er done
-
try taking off the airbox lid or putting some holes in it...how do you know its rich?
-
i am about 70miles or so south of you in ohio so our jetting should be close.i had right around a 180 or so main with stock air box and no lid.i had psiu pipes though on that banshee.remember being around a 48 or 50 pilot...itys been a while
