I had the same issue with a arm I was attempting to install. I compressed shock to fit. Definitely wasn’t right. I removed the arm. Did yamaha produce two different length rear shocks? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Engine running backwards? Pull stator cover ensure flywheel is correct and timing is good. I’ve heard of older 2 stroke doing this when the timing is “tight” Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I hate to say it! Spray chrome rattle can. Pretty sure your not gunna tear it down for a rechrime or powder coat right now. But I would do some shinty silver before chrome.
