i have a customers motor in my building that im replacing 1st gear and a shift fork...thats where i got the stator from...the flywheel on the motor is real rusty but the tabs on it are shiny......ill try it cant hurt anything the only way i can tell if it fixes it without going to the track is to see if the bike runs at .028 gap on the plugs i guess..since it has to be on a load.... kinda hope thats what wrong though..tired of chasing the problem already does anyone have a lightened flywheel for sale or trade?????? matt

i have seen somewhere on this site before that somebody got 1 or 2 more ponies out of a drag axle over the stock one on a dyno because of less rotating mass matt

could be my problem then..its never misses in the same place twice though ...one run could bust up on top end the other outta the hole..... my fly wheel looks brand new..when i shake it..it sounds like tiny piece's of sand inside it even though its clean as a whistle...i use to have problems with the same flywheel sheering key ways..i just thought i wasn't torquing it down enough..then started using a electric impact and it stopped do you think that its broke a magnet???? it only breaks up under a load.....example here at the house all i have is a grassy yard to hole shot in and it blows the tires off ..doesn't miss or anything...as soon as it hooks at the track it starts breaking up... that is how i ruled out a fuel prob.....when motors miss under a load its 9 times outta 10 a spark problem... is there any way i can test a flywheel????? if it is bad then i was in the market for a lightened flywheel anyways....changed my mind about the pvl matt

i have the Taylor made wires that you jb weld into the stock coil...they could be burnt at the tips or something...you cant replace the caps on them there 1 piece designed... haven't fooled with the coil none ,,it was kinda loose on the frame and i tightened it up and it didn't affect anything though...... could it be my flywheel...it kinda has a rattle to it when you shake it ,,,nothing major just kinda feels like something might be loose....bike doesn't vibrate or anything... matt

well i swapped my stator out with a stator that came off a running motor i was working on for a customer...and still same thing..so im gonna rule that out the miss went away but i had to gap the plugs to .010 still dont know why though.. plug gap from .022 and further the bike wont even run.... from .022-.011 the bike revs fine but has the small miss like i 1st complain about from .011 down the bike doesnt miss runs great,,dles great should i play with the pick up coil and maybe run it closer and further and see if the plugs change????? also if my electrical system is weak like you all suggested does this mean my timing may say its +12 but really be at +7 or 8 matt

the white hard goop over the coils are busted and chipped ...it has places were it shows the copper looking wire.. wouldn't i loose spark through the chipped spots????? plus thetops of the stator are wore really bad and copper is showing there to....... im gonna replace it with a old one on my shelf.....id like to find a new or used pvl before i buy a new yamaha stator.... matt

i just found today that my stator has some bare spots in the wraps and looks real brittle and cracked all over....is there any goop or tape i can cover my stator in again???? matt

same here.... i ran alot of 4.20 passes with the cheap ass kit from ebay that comes with chain front and back sprocket......all for $40 bux i cant afford to buy the nice sprockets or o-ring chains......ive found that a 15/41 is a good all around gear for what ever i do...from stock to 421 cub matt

maybe this would help a lil.... does anyone know what closing the gap does..is it less fire..more fire...does it change timing alot???? matt

i would just leave it be unless you are having problems at the track coming off the line to rich or busting up first 100ft.... or when you rev it it takes a second to pick up......other then that i wouldnt let it get to me... what track do you race at ky???? matt

this problem has haunted me for 2 years now.... the motor in my sig and my old 358 cub both would not run unless my spark plugs was gapped at next to nothing like 0.005..nearly touching... the bike misses at top end bad unless i do this to the plugs..... it cuts out completely at around 8800 rpm my pick up coil is at 0.017 or what ever specs is and my timing was +11 on the 358 and +9 on the 421 and taylor made plug wires from jeff at fast both motors used the same exact stator,,coil,,,cdi and all..... this is racking my brain........ some one help me out.... matt

i would be disappointed if my 421 didnt run a low 6 high 5 with the right set up....but i weigh 175lbs and a aftermarket frame.... it ran 3.96 on motor in 300ft dirt .....there was a 421 klotz bike on the atv dragracer video that ran a 6.1 and it was on a stock frame..... matt

like to trade my small bore chrome cpi out of frames for bigbore small flange out of frame pipes... mine are used and have some welded spots that dont look bad at all....there not junk... will give cash boot if needed..... matt

my 421 cub wont run on top end at all.......unless i gap my plugs at like .010 .005...i dont know why becuase the stator gap is .18 and timing is at +10 on alky comp is around the 180's..... it fly's now with the plugs almost touching so i aint really touched it since ... matt

yea the square is good..i used 1inch steel pipe..its hard to drill were its round.. just dont drill your holes to loose fitting becuase they will egg shape in no time and you'll have alot of play... matt

yea your gonna have to run a strut if you wanna hook any at all also.......

get a duneable if ya can...mine are awsome never had a problem at all outta them in 3 years just break it in right by starting your bike up and idle in 1st gear for about a minute and that lubes 5th up.... i got mine off of wcr for a good price and they kept it 2 weeks longer then they was suppose to and they gave me 50% off another trans that i went ahead and had done right away..... you can shift it up or down at any speed like a stock trans..but instead its like butter anyway you use it.... i trail ride 1 of them on a 358 cub and the other is in my drag bike..it was $15 extra for neutral down and thats a big help if you are bad to hit in between 1st and 2nd i just wish i would have got a 2-5 on my drag bike instead of a 1-5....on the plus side i guess i could still use it for 1/8th mile..lol i also think mine had 6 month warranties with them....cant beat that. matt

yea a pop can is what i set under mine but i run fresh dirt...if you run in everyone elses ruts or tracks then you might wanna go a lil more higher..depends on the track i guess... our track is dirt and the ruts can get 3-5 inches deep at times...but i learned that if you set your bike up for launching in ruts then when it gets down to about 4 or 5 bikes left you end up getting fresh track and you run off your time... hope that helps some matt
