Powder coating freshly bored juggs
boneyardbanshee. replied to Drewski's topic in General Banshee Discussion
most powders are baked for 10-15 min. after the actual part itself reaches 400-425 degrees. However that will be the alum. part that will reach these temps first. The cast iron sleeve will not heat as fast and will hold the heat and release it much slower than the alum. Also experienced coaters have there own techniques to take precausions for such a thing. You can put the part in the oven and then turn it on , that will gradually bring the heat up. Once the base metal temp. reaches your desired temp range you can turn the oven off and leave it in there, this will allow the temps the decline gradually. If you take them to an experienced coater you should not have any problem. Now "Joe" out in his garage may not know of these techniques, but a real shop will, thats why they cost more. -
Powder coating freshly bored juggs

they will be fine, I have done a few Banshee jugs and lots of Harleys, never had a problem -
Way back when I first got my Banshee and before I knew of this site I flipped my rears. It will put them about even with the front and will help stability. However you may also notice one of the rear wheels lifting when you corner hard. For good handling ideally your fronts should be wider than your rears. I find with stock suspension the Banshee is very unstable. Especially when you ride it hard. Flipping the rims is a good idea and wont take away enough handling to outweigh the stability you will gain.

carbs? why what size when? OPEN DEBATE
boneyardbanshee. replied to camatv's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
This is what I know, if you run Paul Turner Mids stay with stock carbs. I tried them with 30mm OKO's and never got them to work together. Just too much carb for the rpm range. Stock carbs back on and they work great now. -

You do not want to get brake cleaner or laquer thinner on PC. That is just asking for problems. Take some kero and clean the oil out before coating. PC requires bare surfaces. Even the vapor of burning oil can ruin a PC job. A good PC shop will do at least a quick prep to ensure their work will come out right the first time. Also, usually a pre-bake is often used to burn off oils and contaminates especially when dealing with alum. surfaces. -
keep the banshee or move on
boneyardbanshee. replied to sangheraent's topic in General Banshee Discussion
Keep the Banshee. Hell I can not think of one single part that has not broke on me over the years. But it just gives me an excuse to improve the machine. Also, a backup bike is a great idea. I have a Blaster and a 250x that I use as a down time bike or a spare for a friend. You can pick up a 250x for practically nothing and 300EX parts swap over so the parts are endless for them and cheap. -
going roundhouse is a great idea. That is what I am doing now. After my adjusters failed twice and almost ruined my BOSS sprocket hub, I am not messing with it anymore. Check jjandaracing.com in thier "garage sale" section for a carrier. You can get a twin row setup for 100 bucks with new bearings and all. Thier checkout screen is having some issues so you will have to call them but the service was very good.

thats my guess, something wrong with the chain adjusters. Get new ones, or you may end up spending alot more than that down the road.

snug, everything should be snug. Thread locker is a great idea. Did I mention to just make it snug?

I have a set of the Wal-Mart lights mounted where the fenders mount, they actually hold the fenders on. So far I have had no issues with them. I did modify them a little though. Added some rubber washers here and there to snug everything up and put a rubber gromet where the wires go in. I dont think you will have a problem as long as everything is nice and snug in there.

I get alot of my powder through powderbuythepound.com, very friendly and helpful.

1. I cant belive these are still being posted on here 2. I have those Wal-Mart lights haha, worked pretty good with different bulbs

Whats up HQ! Have not been on for a long time. Had to give my wallet a break. With that being said, we got any new parts out that I just have to have? Snows gonna start melting, time to get the Banshee ride ready.

Yep Wellsville is nuts. Actually that is where this all happened. It finally let loose at the Rumble but Im pretty sure Wellsville did the damage. We usually make the trip twice a year. Thinking of taking the Waverunners next time.

Hey thanks, that was what I figured just wasnt sure. Whitbread, I think I see you mentioned something about a write up in another thread? That is a great idea and I am sure alot of people on here have the capabilities of doing this. The way it fits in there it looks solid and I bet it will handle the hard terrain around here. Thanks again guys.

stator cover very well may be the cause. I dont have the stock gasket that goes there and never have but will seal it up and see what happens. I just know in the "drying" process the right side kicks in and out untill it is ready to rip again so that is why I was thinking off a plug/jetting issue. I may end up switching pipes or arbs anyhow though. I dont think these PTRs like the 30mms. It doesnt seem like they are using the full carb and are hitting redline before the carb is WOT.

I feel kinda silly asking this but how does the chain adjustment work? Does the whole carrier rotate then gets locked back down? Reason for asking is something failed and caused my carrier bolts to snap, and then my swinger ears bent, and damn near wrecked my new Boss hub. I am pretty sure it all comes down to the chain tensioners. I can probably bend the ears back and get it all fixed but I have spent alot of coin on the rear end and dont want this shit to happen again.

Yep, if you can do fiberglass you can do carbonfiber. And alum. foil works well to line a mold so the resin doesnt stick.

my steering and tires are not straight
boneyardbanshee. replied to banshee_91's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
Isolate the problem. If your tire wobbles front to back it is probably a tie rod end. From top to bottom it is probably ball joints on the arms. If those are good it could be a wheel bearing. If that is the case the wheel and hub will wobble on the spindle. If when accelerating the bike pulls check your rear hubs to make sure the splines are not worn. The last one is probably not your problem but is something to keep an eye on. -
Buy a used one. You could buy 5 used for the price of one new. And if you would really like to spend the coin build one from the ground up with all new parts(aftermarket). Why would anyone want a stock Banshee anyhow?

yep get the arbon fiber ones so I will know how my bike will look next year

I am having a problem hitting water holes hard. Never had this problem before but since I have been running these PTR pipes I cant hit water holes hard. If I ease into them and keep the revs up its fine but if I just fly into them it stalls out. After a bit of letting it idle and letting it "dry" out it will run fine again. Now the two things I have thought of are, I dont have the jetting just right and am fouling the plugs when I hit the water. ALso these are the older PTRs that dont run an exhaust gasket so water may be getting in through the exhaust flange and getting the plugs wet. I have heard of banshees reving high when hitting water holes but am not sure whats going on here. I may have to put my 916s on but really wanted to keep them off the trail bike. One more thing no leaks before the cylinders and water isnt getting in the air box.

like what? I have all Boss hubs and their locking nut on my LSR axle and they have been very good for me. On a side note I will be camping in Wellsville the weekend of the Rumble, are you going Whitbread?
-
Sorry for the short notice, havent been on for a while. This is the second of the three rides this year. Should be a large turn out as usual. This is the first all weekend event and should be live entertainment at night if you camp there. For more information check out the link below. Hope to see some Banshee riders there. If anyone has a smashed up light let me know. I really just need the inserts for the mount. Also I need a clutch basket. Stock would be ok, aftermarket would be better. Needs to be in good condition.
