Fuel leaking out of carb drain/overflow
05.Banshee.SE replied to Bansheexpx's topic in Jetting & Exhaust Forum
I have a similar problem and am just going to clean and rebuild my carbs. Anyone have any links to good carb kits? -
My friend might get one...anyone know anything? Good? Bad? Indifferent? Modding?

Plastics: No Plastics: I prefer plastics. I'm all about retaining as much of the stock look as possible (with modifications of course). I just like having people think it's all stock [or near] when I go out riding, then when the 'Shee rips them up like crazy, they are left confused.

SPL is sound pressure level. Basically it's loud as hell, but the quality suffers. SQ is sound quality. I was all about SPL. I had a JL Audio 12W7 in my regular cab pickup, with a JL Audio 500/1 amp, in a custom built ported box. That bitch was mean!!!!!! I've been pulled over a few times for it. You get what you pay for too. Don't go with the cheap stuff. I used to have the 12" Kicker Solobarics in my truck, those were nice and affordable subs! I doubt they'd be as good in a car though, they were made to hit into the back of a seat.

From Stock, to Sick: My Banshee Journey

Hahaha...no handle bars, no handle bars... -
I have not looked at the jetting (I know, I know.) I have not had any bog problems that weren't solved by the new air filter. I'm installing these mods, then sending it over to HJR for a rebuild and port work. After the mods are installed, I will be using a jet kit to jet it right. (I know I can save money, but I want it.) ------- There was some in the overflow before it over heated, it must have sucked it in because it was empty after. I'll have to check the impeller once I get back to the shop. Can someone link me to a good billet one? (Thanks in advance.) What other mods do you reccomend for the cooling system? If the impeller is fine, what else could have caused the overheating? It wasn't detonation.

I heard it's hard to turn without the handlebars also! -
I wanted to put this up, well, mostly because I'm bored, and because I only get to do this once (at least for a while). This is basically a thread of my journey of turning my stock 2005 Banshee Special Edition into the custom bike I want it to be. Fast, clean, the works basically. ----------------------------- "Day 1:" Here is a picture or two of her the day I got her: ----------------------------- "Day 2:" I have majority of the parts I'm going to do at once...I'm waiting for the exhaust to get in, because that's what I want to start with. I also have to order the jets and an adjustable timing plate. I didn't do to much...pretty much just broke the bike down. The last time I rode it before today, I had a rough outing at the track and it was almost bye bye Banshee. I inspected the cooling system for damage, since that was the cause of my problem. I warmed it up, and did a compression test, which came out to be about 100 PSI on each cylinder. I'm going to need a rebuild soon. I just remembered I'm going to need new plugs too...and 2 carb rebuilding kits. I took off most of the plastics to make it easier for me to get to the motor and do work. I tried to clean her up a bit, I don't like working on dirty things. I touched up some of the wires by adding electrical tape to help protect them where there wasn't any. I cleaned out the silencers, I have no idea why, since they are coming off. I took off all the parts I'm getting powder coated. Hopefully I can get them done soon. ----------------------------------------------------

Stock, no mods. I live in Florida, it's summer, a few hurricanes have strolled through (humidity) and was running a stock Banshee on an 1/8th mile strip, and being a dumbass about it too. I think that's what did it.
-
I'd imagine a head that can hold 70% more liquid would run cooler? The stock exhaust and a uni filter don't help much either. It's to restrictive...the pods and the toomeys are going to really let the air flow. ----------- I checked the coolant, and it was actually almost full. The bottle was empty. I added some to the radiator, and filled the overflow. I ran it for about 10 minutes, and then re-comp checked it, and it moved up to about 100 psi on each cylinder. It is running, so that is a good sign. I'm taking off parts to get them powder coated during the week next week. I'm going to flush the coolant entirely, replace it all. Then I'm going to flush and replace the gear oil. By the time that's all done, I should have my pipes here, and the jets and adj. timing plate should be on its way. I'm going to install most/all my mods, and get it tuned right. I'm going to rip the carbs off, and clean the piss out of them, and rebuild them. After all that is dialed in...I was thinking HJR rebuild and aggressive trail port. Then, by the time that gets back, I should have rims/tires, and I'll be ready for the dry winter season, and ready to rip up some 450s and shit.

In a few weeks my set up will be: -K&N Pods w outerwears -T5s -TORS Removed -PD Coolhead w/ 21cc domes -Timing +4 -Ported stock cage w/ carbon fiber petals (Sure I am missing something? It's to early for this.) All from stock...I can let you know how it works out for me! After all that I'm looking at HJR porting.
-
Just get the coolhead, then domes to match what octane you want to run (give me your elevation, and if you want to run race fuel or pump 93 and I'll suggest a size to you, or look it up for yourself), then advance the timing. Just do it. Trust me.
-
Cool head and domes are your next step. Then there's an adjustable timing plate...it's not hard to do. The head runs about $195, domes about $65 and I'm not sure on the plate. You can find better deals online though.

List of Possible Causes please?

My carbs do look pretty dirty. Can anyone link me to a good carb rebuild kit? I might as well pull them off and clean/rebuild them while I have down time. -

The overflow theory sounds right to me too, but it's getting excessive. I think the plug backing out had something to do with the puddle being so large last time... -
Mods will be: -K&N Pods w/ outerwears -Toomey T5s -PD Coolhead w/ 21cc domes -TORS Removed -Ported Reed Cages w/ new Carbon Fiber petals -Adj. Timing Plate, +4 -Aggressive Trail Port (HJR) - within a few months of above mods being installed. -Top End Rebuild (HJR) - same as above. That seems to be the most important stuff. Elevation: Sea Level What do you guys think I should be running for jetting? I'm trying to figure as much out as I can before it's all done, I just need you guys to put me in the ball park.

FS 2006 Yamaha Banshee Special Edition

Good deal. How much for the impeller? And tires on rims price? -
I have some type of oily liquid puddling up under my bike, especially after hard riding. I'm not sure if it's coming out of the overflows under the bike, or a leak somewhere. It has a gassy smell to it, so I'm going to guess it's the mixed fuel, and not gear oil. What can I check before I'm able to get a leak down test?
-
What's your elevation? Do you want to run race fuel or 93 (or better) pump?
-
I've only been out after dark once, and that was me seeing how well the headlights actually worked. Thanks for suggesting that, and I'll look into it.
-
I'll have to find a PC shop near me (don't know of one, that's why I was avoiding it), and I'll compare the costs of doing each. Thanks.
-
Has anyone tried tinting the stock headlights? I don't want them to be clear anymore...I was thinking of having a tint shop do it, or spraying nightshades on it if I have to. I'm going for look over functionality, FYI, I don't do that much night riding.
-
I'm taking off my front bumper and the stock footrests (silver), and want to paint them up black. I'd rather work on the bike myself instead of going and getting it powder coated. What grit sand paper will I need to sand off the silver, and make it paint ready? What type of spray paint should I use? Should I put a clear coat over it? I want my stock rims to be black too...but I might buy new rims, so I dont want to spend a lot on it.

K&N pods w/ outerwears are definately the way to go.
