  1. Usually when suddenly you have a fast idle it means a vacuum leak of some kind. First check the intake boots, then head gaskets, and seals. I usually use starter fluid to find them. Spray starter fluid in all the areas I just mentioned and the bike will run funny when you find your leak.
  2. Okay, we all have our favorite spots to ride at but every now and then we like to try something new. I know I do. If you are unsure of a place to ride in your state these two websites are a must have. I use them for my MX weekends, but many allow quads too. MX Dot Net Off Road Parks My favorite MX park and ATVs are more than welcome: MotoLand Check out Motoland if you want the best SX style experience. Been going there for two years now and actually can't sleep the night before I go there everytime. The ultimate experience in trail riding is here: Hatfield/McCoy Trails 500 miles of trails, mainly for two wheel fun, but most all the trails can fit a quad. Have fun and be safe!
  3. Pretty much. It accomplishes the quick hits is about it. Almost anything is an improvement over selling stuff the same day you register.
  4. The post count rule is not all what it is cracked up to be. I have belonged to several forums in the past that did this and it promoted "post whoring" (the practice of posting a smiley in a thread just to induce a high post count) and brings down the quality of the board. What does work is time. You have to be a member of say...a minimum of 90 days to be able to list an item and also assign a moderator to the section of the sellables to police activity. This way everyone wins. The Post whores won't be so quick to smiley 3 pages of threads to be able to list anything. Now on the pics rule. Would anyone buy anything without seeing it first? Even on Feebay I check the feedback of a seller before buying, here we don't get that chance, but we can ask about a member here in a thread and see what's up. Also, on Feebay I only buy from certain members. Usually those that have online stores are okay. My biggest beef with Feebay is that the little guy selling those wheels that he had "lying around for sometime" might be the one that stole your friends bike and is parting it out.
  5. I've sold vintage MXers on ebay to people over in Europe and basically all that is needed is a notarized Bill of Sale ( the amount can be negotiated since I believe their might be a duty to be charged on the item and it is a good idea to claim it is used and you traded for it) and a notarized letter stating it has never been registered anywhere. The catch is that if the item is used you can get away with a lot more embelishments than an item being new. Claim its used and get paperwork that it is used is what I would do.
  6. Why not an RZ500 Gamma motor shoehorned into a Banshee instead. Ever seen those run? Check it out: If you put in a Suzuki motor at least put in something that relates to the Banshee in "spirit".
  7. I just bought my first Banshee last weekend and I haven't ridden it long yet. Round the yard, starting it up every night. I went over every nut and bolt checking it out. Overall the design gets two thumbs up. Not too top heavy, not too narrow and the rear shock angle and swing arm length spell PULL. This thing will be one rippin ride. Even though its my wife's I plan on buying one for myself soon. I have to sell off my other bikes though. THat'll be the deal. I can let the RM go, but my 88CR will be real difficult. I go way back on that bike. I have heard both negative and positive things from people who have been ATV riders a lot longer than I have. Many of them think the Raptor is a better quad overall but the Banshee is easier to handle. The overall concensus is that it was a good choice.
  8. During the break in period I always run my bikes rich on the Klotz. 20:1 knowing that the plugs will be toast in short order, but with the heavy lube I get a good break in on the bottom end. Then after I get that over with I change the plugs and go to 40:1 from then on. Synthetic oil has changed everything on these two strokes. Way back in the day of Bel Ray and leaded fuel you would be lucky to last on 32:1 or leaner.
  9. The manual tells you to check the bike BEFORE EVERY RIDE. But hey, you go ahead and trust the people who put these things together. I have owned over 40 motorcycles and I had a bad accident on a brand new one in 1987 (I went over the bars because of the triple clamps being loose) and have always checked it over when I get it home ever since. I haven't had a accident on anything new ever since. On one of my new Hondas the swingarm nuts was loose on it when I checked it out in my shop. I paid 4K for the bike and felt like I shouldn't have to do this, but as long as people assemble these things the odds of something being loose are higher than you think. This was only a couple of years ago. Yes, it shouldn't have loose nuts on it, but it did. How many car accidents shouldn't happen that you see? People aren't perfect. When your buggie was being assembled a human was doing it. He/she could have gotten distracted or whatever and didn't torque the front end. Go ahead and just jump on it and ride it. Its only your life. No biggie.
  10. You can only run real lean once, but rich many, many times. This is a good question about plugs though. Temperature plays into the equation quite a bit. The plugs look good for now, I like to see a little more brown but those aren't bad. I have boxes and boxes of new B9exi's laying around so buy B8s are going to be an adventure for sure. Someone on this board will know the answer to this so here it goes: Why not a colder plug? Will it really hurt the Banshee to run 9s?
  11. This has been, by far, the most useful and insightful thread I have read on here to date.
  12. I have several bikes lying around my shop here in Indiana. Was into the vintage scene for a while but got tired of it. (I still want an '81 Maico 490) but last March my wife talked about learning to ride a bike so she could ride with her friends who all have hogs. Now, these people are like me, been riding for 30+ years and have a lot of experience, but my wife didn't. So after an arguement I told he she is going to learn on a dirt bike first so she can learn about the fundamentals of shifting, braking under less than great circumstances, and power. I bought her a TTR125 Yamaha. She hated it. She rode it around the yard once and never got on it again and pretty much gave up the idea at her age about learning to ride a cycle on the streets. My son rode it when he visited me this summer, but liked my RM144 better and so the Yammie got orphaned and sat. I still ride and love MX so I won't give up my two wheels just yet, but the end is coming as I am 45 now and I don't heal as quick when I eat it. She tells me this winter how an ATV sounds like fun so I file that away. I see the dealership where I bought the TTR has a leftover '06 Banshee sitting their and I told the guy if he made me a good deal on trading in the TTR (the bike was on it's second tank of gas mind you and didn't have a scratch on it) I would buy the Banshee because I hate four strokes. (Too noisey for one thing, and I hate valve adjustments) So I got more than I asked on trade and got the Banshee for 4700. I plan on buying another next year for myself.
  13. I have an '05 Ford F150, but I have also owned a '99 Lightning and a few Chevy pickups, and a Dodge. By far I have had the best results with my '05 Ford. I think because the technology is better that the product is better. Research is the most important I think. Right now is a great time to shop a new one. My next truck will be a diesel no doubt. Not sure what brand it will be.
  14. They do that where I am contracting for the time being, so I installed Firefox and proxied it. If the rights are setup so that it doesn't allow unauthorized downloads and installs create a folder in "My Documents" (name it whatever you want) and install to that. Hide all the short cuts and try that.
  15. You tighten it down for adjusting the power band.
  16. The CRF is worth more now. In the future the Banshee will be worth more. Do the deal. Besides, looks like a lot of work has already been done.
  17. Get some Bark Buster as a the frame to put the carbon fiber overlay. Seen it many times done on Enduro machines. Works perfectly.
  18. My cousin had a new 87. I remember it was fast, but in a drag race I think the rider will make the difference. If you know how to launch your buggie you'll win. The ATC can go over backwards a lot easier than a Banshee because the front end is light. Just stay on the pipe after you launch it and you'll be okay. Just don't race for pinks. If he is a good rider and knows that ATC you could lose.
  19. Whether I am buying an MXer or a quad I take a torque wrench to the drivetrain nuts and suspension nuts. Get a shop manual and know the specs and spend time checking it over. I went over the bars on my RM due to a loose brake part and was lucky to not be strapped to a wheelchair. The caliper came out and wedged in between the fork tube and wheel causing a real bad day. Even if you don't feel like using a torque wrench at least us a socket and ratchet to check it over. Now, what to do with it in shambles? Go to an online parts place and download schematics to see what your front suspension should look like and see what exactly is missing. Damage you may have done? Take it to the dealer and see what they say, chances are if they are reputable they will take care of this and do a thorough job of inspecting everything critical. What is important is to learn from this. If it has tits or wheels and you aren't on top of it, you can get hurt. Do a monthly inspection of the quad.
  20. Just checking in. Age old MXer and still rides on two wheels. (97 RM and 88 CR) Love two strokes! The site is all good and should be fun here. Being a Noob I know I will get assaulted by "STFU Noob" posts and its cool. btw....'06 Banshee (brand new and only 10 minutes on it but have owned other quads) Dealer had it sitting there and I had to have it.
