  1. 80 HP on pump gas without a stroker crank? OK...whatever. Pipes make 10 more than the nearest competitors pipe in the mid? Do they have a dyno to back up all these promises? I would stick with a site sponser.
  2. Usually when you hear backfires, you should first look at the flywheel to make sure it hasn't come loose and moved. But with all the talk about fuel leaking, Im guessing your flooding a cylinder and it's firing off at the wrong time. Sounds carb related. Check your reeds for breaks too, could be force pushing backwards through the carbs leading to some issues.
  3. 41 and still upgrading. Never enough power. Even though I had a big "Get off" last year. (Other than some sprained ribs I was fine) I'm alway curious when age will get me. I never see many over 50 posting, so I figure life will decide why I'll change what I'm loving now. I assume I'll be moving into a V-8 sand rail by age 50. (I WON'T join the side x side movement!) Great to see guys still riding. I'm loving the dunes and the Badlands...and I'm even going to race in the Megacross series this year. (Hope I'm not writing checks my body can't cash.) So anyway.......just when can I realistically see myself as the "Old Guy"? (I'm sure my 13 year old will have a different answer than you will. LOL)
  4. It's the same as a cub, but the port timings are lower. You give up @ 10 HP on the very top end to gain a solid 10 ft lb of torque through out the powerband. Way better for woods/trail/dune...unless your only looking to drag on the dunes.
  5. And if your suggesting he buy a Cheetah motor form Trinity....Your a total idiot. You should return everything you got from Trinity and buy it elsewhere. You can return that stuff, just don't open the package. Get a serval motor from anyone else but Trinity. The serval will make more power than the bigger Cheetah...and for less $$$....and on pump gas too!
  6. It'll sound simple, but sometimes the problem is simple.....Check to make sure that your key is working (If you still have a functioning key) We had a spark issue once and after checking EVERYTHING else, we discovered that even though the key was "On" it wasn't really working. Wish we had found it sooner. Lost a whole day of riding over that one. I also had the kill switch on a Honda 400EX do the same thing. I was stuck in the Kill mode. You might check that too. Make sure the ON for the ignition switch still works. NOTE: Yes you will need some type of voltage tester or Ohm meter to check this. Hope it's not anything else, cause this is the cheap fix. Anything else is going to cost some green.
  7. Did I click into the Humor section?
  8. I saw that done on a blaster....was that him? I was going to do that on the bike too. That's why I bought the clear side stator cover.
  9. OK, THAT is the baddest ass home made foot peg idea I've seen yet! It looks like it was MADE to be used for that mod.
  10. Well, try not to light all the noobs up too much. Remember, there are alot of fatherless young men out there trying to figure out how to spin a wrench and the only people they can find with any mechanical ability might be members of an internet site. Also, common sense isn't so common any more. Instead of saying "Do a search" We should say "Read all the sticky's, buy a Clymers manual, read every post in the repairs and mods section going back a week/month and then stay up to date with all of them as you go forward."
  11. pistons are going to cost you 2-3 times what you would think!
  12. Well that depends......last time I built one from scratch it topped $15,000. Make a list of every part you'll want, get a Dennise Kirk catalog, get on Ebay and find the prices for the stuff you want. Then.....YOU do the math. That's how you get a little thing called a budget. Nobody can tell you what your idea of a machine will cost. it would just be a crude guess. Lets just say, depending on the parts, color, year, motor and amount of work you'll do yourself VS. sending it out........You'll be between $1,500 and $20,000
  13. Yeah, and knobbies are like an Anchor.
  14. Yep, blown O-ring. Or maybe the mater pump is locked up, or the gear broke. But I'll bet the motor lost an O-ring. Not bad enough to really see the mist from your pipes. Try pulling your radiator cap and sniffing the fluid. If it smells like fuel/oil/exhaust ,then you know where to start looking.
  15. These are liquid cooled machines guys. Not blasters. The outer shell of your cylinders won't amount to a measurable amount of cooling. The debate about raw metal VS. powder coating or Ceramic coating would only be valid if the quad is off and trying to be cooled while sitting. Still the water is what needs to be cooled and cooling the radiator will do that. I personally have fully polished and Ceramic coated cheetah cylinders. Cooling is NOT and issue. I've also seen chromed and painted radiators work just fine. Paint, polish, powder your stuff any way you want. Your motor won't know the difference.
  16. Or the knobbies just turn better because they are dug so deep into the sand. (Robbing speed and power) Buffed light tires are always the best in sand. I've ridden with knobbies.....I'm old enough and wise enough to know that sand tires are the only way to go. (Unless you ride where there is occasionally rock hard packed clay like sand.)
  17. You look lean. If you call Jay and get on the dyno, we'll get those carbs dialed in perfect before it burns up. Otherwise, you might be doing a top end alot sooner than you figured. You running it "as is" with the gas carbs for the Badlands trip? I think it will be fine for that ride. But if you come to the dunes, you'll want it fresh.
  18. The prices are very top secrete. Only made available to top members. Can only be found on an exclusive interent site. Here's a link. Don't tell them I told you...... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Roll-Design-Pro-Foot-Pegs-Yamaha-Banshee-350-IMS-/140290803481?pt=Motors_ATV_Parts_Accessories&hash=item20a9fbc719
  19. Seams like I remember saying something to that effect to someone, and you giving me the old "Face Palm"..... It's true though....EVERY Banshee has "Arm ripping power!....Not for a beginner". Notice how nobody ever says..."Yeah I just bought these pipes and they suck, I'm down on power and I'm switching back to my old ones". Nope, it's only...."I had some of those once (long ago when I might have not been as smart as I am now. And they sucked....buy what I'm running now, because they don't suck".
  20. Heres an idea...don't think so hard about reinventing the wheel. Tim at Titan racing has used the stock stator, CDI, flywheel (although sometimes it's a lightened one) and nothing more than a NOLOGY coil to set plenty of world records. The spark only has to be strong enough to spark the air/fuel mixture without being blown out. The NOLOGY coil will fire any thing you throw at it. (Other than a totally flooded cyilinder) No need to go designing a custom system to act more like a welder than a coil. MSD makes good stuff too, but in 90% of the motors out there, the stock stuff will work best and offer longevity. (PVL's are light....but they fail more often than a ricky stator.)
  21. With the "Off the shelf" pipes (standard CPI SB-BB or Shearer SB-BB styles...even FMF) you can call and they will tell you what port timing ranges the pipes were designed to work with. Once you get into hand coned stuff, the pipe builder ususally builds the pipe to the motor specs based on Engine size and port timings.
  22. Post a link. Sounds great. If you had that and an aluminum water pump...all the weak links in the system would be gone.
  23. When you say it's working right, do you mean the way he told you it could be used from the start (up and downshift without clutch and still be able to fully backload it. Treat it like a stocker....Or are you treating it like a dunable override?
  24. I have a 370 long rod motor. Here is what you get when you enter 370 long rod into the search... It linked me to only 3 persons who used the word "Long" in a sentance. And each one of these previous posts have merit to them. Case in point, is that right now there is another "what oil for my pre mix" that was just recently started. Ive personally sceen that exact question asked and answered a ton of times in just my short time on here.. Or the "what oi in my tranny" and so on. I havent messed with the search tab much, but many of the questions can be answered in many more places than just here.. Many of the basic questions are not secrets and the answers can be found on many places with just a bit of leg work.. If people wold educate themselves a little bit before asking questions, and then ask intelegent questions that include what their setup is, what the symptoms are, and what they are trying to accomplish I as well as other I think would be much more into helping out.. But the simple "my bike runs like shit whats wrong" is annoying. It takes 4-5 replies just to get the information from them that is needed before you can even begin to help them with the problem.. EVERYONE has questions at some point, that is one way that we learn. But the quality of the content in the question will make or break the quality or quantity of the answers. I think Larry's shee is right though......YES the search option is less than desired.....however it WILL bring up the info you need.....you just need to look for the right answer a little deeper sometimes.....more than just glancing at the first 3 posts and getting mad because its not right there. TO THE YOUNGER CROWD: Yes there are still some of us around here that WANT to help you. And we will help you......if YOUR willing to help out also. If your looking for an answer and expect to just turn a screw and have the motor completely fixed....it wont be. We need you to understand that you WILL need to get your hands dirty and you WILL occasionally need to say "sorry guys...can't go riding right now.....gotta tear the motor down and fix the problem." Some problems need a little bit of R & R to come to a conclusion as to what is wrong.....some are just sitting there in front of you and the answer is slapping the shit outta you. Im sorry if this is a little bit of a rant for you..... And if your a younger crowd individual who HAS found this offensive.....then you are one of the crowd that was raised stuck on your mama's tit too long and needs to be introduced to the world of reality.....sometimes you need to drop your purse....attach your nuts to where they belong and get your hands dirty. BESIDES....you may actually find that you actually enjoy it. Fast as fast can be...you'll never catch me... Screw work...i'd rather be riding! But alot are not. Seems like people are more apt to answer with a use search answer than trying to be helpful. I read alot and dont post unless I really need help, and seems like I hardly get any... Its just hard when people need help and cant get it. The last time I answered a redundant post(about the park brake rev limiter and TORS) I first reminded them to use the search function and then wrote a long paragraph explaining it once again. People need to do a little research BEFORE they ask questions and supply the basic info we need so we have a starting point to help them. I am always willing to help someone out if they can tell me what I need to know to start out.
