  1. Yeah he should be lean.... although running the lid on the air box might just save him....but if he ever opens the lid or gets better filters, he's done. Help him find a nice long open stretch where he can open it up and pull 6th wide open for a bit....then he'll be hearing the "I told you so's"
  2. Sorry, thought he had a +4 crank......Ok a solid 65 with the right pipe. I'm making 63 with the wife's 370 with the same mods and FMF 's. Either way.....unless someone is totally drinking the YFZ cool-ade. I think that 60+ HP will be enough to do the job. Now a fully modded 500+ YFZ can hit the 60's and then you would have a race! But a fully modded 500+ it is not......
  3. $3300 Hi-performance guts and bigger carbs.....Where? The carbs look stock. It's got STOCK PIPES for crying out loud. (what performance gut? New 60 over pistons? Maybe he's got a big cam.) He rattle canned the whole bike...shocks, pipes, side covers and everything. Bet he just finished it, because one ride and that things going to look like a Rat Ride. It's "Murdered out" all right.....that bike's looks died the minute he got ahold of the spray can.
  4. Do you seriously need to ask? You should be in the 70's for HP depending on your pipes. This guy has ZERO chance. You could kill it on the launch, re-kickstart it and still win. He couldn't do 140 MPH going DOWN the hill. Too bad you work for his dad........otherwise I'd say put as much money on that race as you can.
  5. R1 clutch fibers work. but you can't run the R1 basket.
  6. What was the violation on the ticket listed as? (In some GNCC, hare scrambles, Enduro style races it is common to have "Road Crossings". You are required to mind traffic rules and cross on a 90 degree angle after making a full and complete stop.) Snowmobiles can use small sections of road too. So I'm really wanting to know what he listed as your infraction. (You answered while I was typing.) (I won't sign or accept a ticket unless they list Section and Article of the infraction.) All they have to do is list the wrong thing or interpret the law wrong and your free and clear. Also...NEVER EVER talk to a cop. You did nothing wrong till you opened your mouth and TOLD him you were doing something you could be charged for. If you say nothing....100% of the burden of proof falls on him. If he had dash cam footage of you he would at least have to go to the trouble of bringing it to court and playing it for the court. (you can require it be presented as evidence if you know he got you on a recording.) Then in court, the world will see if you were truly behaving in a controlled responsible manor. If you were, he'll look like a petty dick and he'll have to be able to point out the action that matches the charge. If the actions don't match his charges....your off scott free! X2 on getting the cop's card that gave you the green light......But.....your NEVER SUPPOSED TO TALK TO THE POLICE!
  7. Since you just joined, make it a practice to read ALL the posts you find in this section. You'll learn very fast from others questions. Feel free to chime in any time with more questions. As long as your willing to listen, people will be glad to help steer you in the right direction.
  8. Now it sucks! It use to be party central, but now the entire area has tried to clean it up the whole scene a bit, so no matter where you stay (unless your on private land) you can drink and have fun but the days of wild hollering teen drunkin stupidity are long over. No more lawn tractor jumping, girls laid out on tables taking turns with all comers, fire pit "Fuel shot" battles, massive communal beer pong parties. The girls gone wild days of the 80's and 90's are done. We stay at Silver lake resort and campground. Great facility.
  9. People are saying air leak.....and that's a good suggestion. But you might be lean in your mid RPM. Jetting might be the issue. If you beasted on it all day and were just heading home with your girl on the back....you might have been going slow enough that the main wasn't feeding that beast as much as when you were really into the throttle. So your pilot might be too small or needle might be set too low. There are all kinds of reasons why one side burns down first. Air leak would be one of them. So could having more packing blown out of one silencer than the other, slides not adjusted evenly, loose carb top or not as tight as the other, Float levels set different from side to side on your carbs, un-even setting on the airscrews, both cylinders are lean but a fouled or bad plug saves one side while the good plug burns the other side down, something as simple as a loose connection of your pipes to your cylinders can act like an air leak, piston to sidewall clearances that were too tight on one side can cause extra heat and detonation. I've learned years ago that people's descriptions of a noise might not sound anything like how I would describe it.....but from your description of the "Chuffing and Backfiring" ...that can happen from the heat of the red hot melting piston igniting the gases too early and firing before TDC (AKA Detonation) or it can be the classic sign of a flywheel that came loose. Beating on a bike with a loose flywheel can burn it down too. Other than the possibility of the pistons being installed in a cylinder that wasn't honed to a consistent size top to bottom or with too tight of a piston to cylinder clearance.......the responsibility of the "Tune" is on the owner. Jetting, timing, break-in, oil mixing, octane choice, checking plug color, keeping the bike moving and getting air in the radiator is all on you. Sorry, but riding a Banshee isn't hard. Plenty of my noob friends throw a leg over my bikes. But OWNING a Banshee requires that you be in tune with your machine. You can't rip on it till your wise enough to KNOW it's tuned correctly. Any time the bike feels different (Better or worse) you better start looking into why.
  10. I'd vote for the FMF's.
  11. Maybe tomorrow you could order some pipes for that bad boy. You'll find your speeds will increase drastically once you get some. At this point, ANY pipes will do.
  12. A friend made a little clamp on mount that he attached to his front grab bar. It was a plate with a trailer tongue mounted to it complete with safety chains. 4 bolts turned his Honda 400EX into a trailer. (It held the front tires off the ground.) He made it the first year that they banned us from towing with straps on the street. (still uses it.) So he tows the bike in.....(He rides 2. One is his Honda 250R with a ESR380 for drags and the other is his 400EX for Dunes.) But they see him going past the inspection checkpoint and tell him that there is NO TOWING TRAILERS onto the dunes. So he had to shuttle them out one at a time. Actually he had one of our group ride it about 100ft past the checkpoint and then he hooked it up and drove in. Then that guy walked back to us and got on his bike and rode in. Kinda stupid rule since they have no problem letting you tow broken stuff OFF the dunes. But I can understand, because look how many dumb shits think they can take their Big 4X4 trucks in without airing down and get stuck in the entrance road. I can just picture what a cluster fuck it would be to have sunk trailers towed by hill rods littering the entry. If your in a pinch....the buggy rental place will ferry you in and out for a fee. They even have their own private drop off spot now. I'd call ahead and ask how much and see if they take appointments. I know of a few people who on a big holiday weekend didn't have any other choice. It'll work out better than the guys who in 2008 tried to get around the whole mess by bringing their 3 motorcycles in from Lake Michigan on a low railed Ski Nautique with a section of decking strapped to the rear as a platform. (It went about as well as the D-Day landings.) Your know your doing to wrong when a 4 year old is shaking he head and saying "Daddy, those guys aren't very smart are they?" (The video is priceless.) The best was seeing their faces as DNR hit the beach just as they managed to carry the motorcycles over their heads to the sand. DNR was kind enough to watch the bikes (and write the tickets) as they went and saved the other ones from the capsized boat. You gotta love the stuff you see on the holiday weekends........
  13. I know that on a holiday weekend you need to be getting up there damn near Thursday if you want to get a parking lot voucher. That place gets bum rushed with locals and friends of friends taking up all the "Dune Ready Vouchers" and that parking lot voucher line has people parking in it as early as they can. If you think your going to show up on Friday at 7:00pm and get a parking lot voucher....you'll get one......a "Stand by" voucher. That happened to me the last time I tried the holiday thing. I was the 29th car in line and they give out 200+ vouchers. I figured I was in for sure.....NOPE! Even being car #29, I ended up getting stand by voucher #10! WTF? I ended up getting #3 from a guy when they bailed and I finally got on the dunes at 2:00 pm. Now they only give out 4 per car MAX. So people at least have a chance................... Maybe some fellow members here will hook you up and grab a voucher for you....they are going to need your name and plate number of your car/truck for the voucher. Good Luck. Have fun. Keep your head on a swivel that weekend...if can be crazy. Ride safe.
  14. If your not mechanically inclined, you should just sell it and buy a 4-stroke. Banshees require a thinker who can spin the wrenches. Buy a manual, read EVERYTHING you can on this site till you start to get what everyone is talking about, as questions when you need to and you just might LEARN the necessary mechanical ability. But if you are the type that cross threads the cap on the toothpaste every morning...........your going to be spending a lot of money paying someone to keep your machine running.
  15. So........what did the dyno have to say?
  16. Anti-seize every nut bolt combo. (Stainless hardware will cold seize together if you don't.) I've had the nut and bolt to hold the plastics on cold seize when they were just hand tight!
  17. Thank you. My wife and I are in tears that was so funny. :rotflmao: :rotflmao: :rotflmao: :rotflmao:
  18. So you've changed 20% of your bolts....not 90%. Happy for you.
  19. You didn't replace 90% of your bolts with stainless for $25.00.
  20. If the fuel is higher than designed to be....the fuel will pull into and thru the jets too easy, making the carb flow more fuel than it would if the fuel was lower in the bowls. (Like drinking that last sip from your coke with a straw takes more effort and time than the first.)
  21. Is the slide bottoming out when your off the throttle? Or is the idle screw holding it up some? Are your floats set correctly? With no porting or major mods, you might need a smaller main. I know the main isn't part of the low end jetting...but if it's FAT on the top end....it's just getting wet in the cases and might take a lot to lean it down at idle. Timing?
  22. Depends on what aftermarket parts you use. Yes the brake rotor bolts won't get used. Their shape is all wrong. But 90% of those cases are in a place where you can't even SEE the bolts. Just get the kit....and if you find a bolt that doesn't work for your situation.....you can make a list and try to find it at a store. Mostly you'll find that you have a boatload of extra bolts for future use in a pinch. NOTE: Open the bolt bags carefully. If you plan ahead, you can put your stock stuff back into the marked bags, staple them closed and you'll have properly labeled replacement bolts should you need them down the road. Order kit and use anti-sieze.
  23. #2 Now if "I" said that..........
  24. If that's all it has and (I'm assuming your going to be riding SilverLake) then drop a tooth on the front sprocket, get some 8 paddle haulers or Extremes, get yourself some spark arrestors and have some fun.
  25. Rubberneck would never steer you wrong. Make the call, get out the Visa card and get a kit sent out soon. Ride season is here!
