  1. X2 on this. I just got done fixing my friends bike that did the EXACT same thing. The pawl on the shift shaft was the loosest one I have ever seen. A new shift shaft and a new eccentric screw fixed it right up, we threw in a modded star also. While you are in there check the kick idler gear bushing and clutch basket bushings and maybe a water pump impeller.
  2. Also, make sure there are no burrs or sharp edges on your clamps as this created a stress riser. I thought Renthal included instructions for deburring the edges of the clamps with new bars.
  3. As long as there is not more than 70 watts draw at the headlights, you can run any incandesant or halogen bulb/light that you want.
  4. 55 watts is too much for the stock stator. The stock stator is capable of powering 2 35W headlights and the stock tail light. PIAA does make a 35W bulb that you could put into the lights and use them.
  5. Doesn't realy matter, with the exception of the stator plug everything on the motor is the same or interchangeable between ALL years.
  6. You can actually deactivate the TORS by just unplugging the control box under the left side of the fuel tank, next to the coil. If you do that it will eliminate all the problems the TORS system causes. Then if you remove the wires from the harness, and install a COMPLETE TORS removal kit(carb caps, throttle cable, and drill and tap the carbs for idle screws) it will look much cleaner and be far easier to work on. As for the park brake rev limiter, only 97 and newer bikes have it- it is a green/yellow wire in the harness that you want to cut at the CDI box plug, cut it on the bike side of the plug. You do NOT want that wire to see ground as that is what activates the rev limiter.
  7. Why are you buying chain from a dealer, especially one that has their head stuck in their ass? As I said before, all Banshees came with an O Ring chain from the factory, at least in the USA. I have known enough people that bought new banshees that I have seen almost every year(USA) in both the regular and Special/Limited Editions and every one of them had an O Ring chain. I think your dealership was just trying to make sure that they sold you a chain no matter what!
  8. Try a new set of plugs- they could be gas fouled and still look fine. Also, what is your timing set at?
  9. Smaller bike with less power=less tippiness with narrow axle. Banshee is a bigger bike with more power and on the same axle in the same terrain will be tippier. When riding in the dunes, the wider you are the more stable you are. Narrow drag axle were meant for the drag strip, not the dunes.
  10. WRONG, ALL Banshees came with O Ring chain from the factory!!!!! Who ever told you that only SEs had O Ring chains was feeding you a line to get you to buy a SE over a non-Special Edition. My 89 came with ORing chain from the factory when I bought it brand new, as did the 87 of my buddy, my wife's 96 and 97, my other buddy's 99, and another buddy's 2002, all wher bought brand new and all had O Ring chain, and none of them were SEs as SEs were not offered in those years.
  11. Y=Yamaha, F=Four wheeler, Z=high performance series. All Yamah 4 wheelers that I know or are designated YF_XXX.
  12. Make sure the cable is one from a TORS eliminator kit with a thumb throttle.
  13. My crank spread on a stock motor that just had a set of pipes. I now do it on every motor as soon as I get it.
  14. Get yourself a catalog from Aeroquip or Earl's and you can get all the pieces you need to build lines from scratch in ANY configuration you want.Just make sure you use the hose and fittings designed for brake lines.
  15. They have a belt driven CVT TRANSMISSION that is protected inside a plastic/metal housing. You are talking about the final drive on the Banshee, and most Polaris quads still have a chain, or a shaft for a final drive.
  16. Just unplug the throttle housing on the bars and the carbs. AND the control box under the left side of the fuel tank next to the coil!!!!!!!!!!!
  17. Some of the cast ones are terrible for having the threads pull out of the plate. Considering that you can get a billet one for the same price as a cast one, or just a few dollars more,I would get a billet one even though it is hidden. After all, you get what you pay for, and a few dollars extra now is better than buying the cheapest thing out there and then having to buy another(good one or el cheapo) later because it failed. That being said- STAY AWAY FROM RICKY STATOR GARBAGE!
  18. Negative, the hubs and rotors are the same for ALL years.
  19. My 89 that I bought brand new off the showroom floor did not have ANY stop on the footpeg. Your picture looks like somebody mickey moused a stop onto those aftermarket pegs. I would put up a picture of how mine used to be but I've moved my pegs back and down and I don't have any old pictures of the pegs.
  20. You need spindles from a 1990 or newer Banshee. The calipers are a direct fit on the spindles and the spindles are a direct fit on your bike.
  21. You said it had a spacer plate- you can probably measure the thickness of the spacer plate and then double it. That should be what the stroker crank is, assuming that they did not modify the head for the stroker also. You should be able to look at the ports and see if they have been ported. If they are not ported, the head is not modified for the stroker and it just has the spacer plate, then you could use the cylinders with a stock crank.
  22. Is the threaded part of the tester the same length as your spark plug? Is the check valve right at the end of the tester so every bit of compression goes in the gauge and stays there? It is a screw in gauge and not something you have to hold in the hole by hand?
  23. Did you look at the kick idler gear to see if the snap ring and washer was still there when you had the clutch cover off? Also, you could have friction welded a gear to a transmission shaft which will require splitting the cases.
  24. Because you have a boost bottle and a 2:1 pipe- get some real performance parts.
  25. I am not sure if 87-88 are the same as 89-94, but that is the first break. Then it is 95-96, 97-2001, 2002-2006. For the CDI boxes it is 87-94, 95-96, 97-06. There are only 2 stators-87-94 and 95-2006. Coils and voltage regulators are interchangeable for all years. There are 3 different key switches but I dont remember the breaks- they kind of follow the harness breaks. I cant remember id there is 1 or 2 light/run switches.
