  1. Are we talking about mods on the shee, or mods on the woman? EDIT: whoops, jmper27 beat me to it.
  2. I only smoke/dip occasionally (and I only smoke when I'm drinking), but I should quit doing both of them permanently. They're both expensive habits. I'm not really hooked on either of them, but every now and then, I just want a smoke or a dip.
  3. I would stay away, Mike. From the sound of things, this guy is a thug.
  4. Yeah, ALBA makes (or made) them. I haven't dealt with ALBA personally, but I've heard that they've completely lost their touch.
  5. I think I'm gonna stick with the stroker setup if the cases are okay. I've found kits on eBay that have a Hot Rods crank, Wiseco pistons, and all the bearings, gaskets, etc. to almost have my engine completely rebuilt for about $700 shipped. I'll still need to get my cylinders re-sleeved and ported, and will need new domes, though. If the cases are screwed, I'll have no choice but to just go back to stock. I need to have the quad back up and running by June 7 for the NOHVA Jamboree in Genoa, so if I can't get enough money put together to go back to the stroker setup, I might just go back to stock. If you're from Nebraska and/or are familiar with John Cherry's work at GassRX in Genoa, let me know what you think of it. I'll probably look to him for cylinder sleeving/porting.
  6. This happened to me with my old YZ250, and it ended up being due to a nasty crack in the intake boot. While this does sound like it could be a TORS-related issue, have you checked for air leaks, just in case?
  7. I got my engine torn down tonight, and upon getting the jugs off, I found out why my engine locked up. The right-hand rod bearing is a total goner. Problem is, as much play as there is in the rod, it seems that not only is the bearing gone, but the right-hand crank throw is also severely worn, because it's allowing for more play than would be there if only the bearing were gone. Can that possibly be fixed, or is that enough to turn the crank into landfill fodder?
  8. Whoa... for a second there, I thought this was in the "Swap & Trade" section...
  9. Yeah, I think he's asking just a bit too much.
  10. Now that you mention it, I do still have some stock A arms, I'm trying to get them cleaned up and they're not in the absolute best condition, but I could let 'em go for cheap... they might be good enough to get you by for awhile. Let me know if you need them.
  11. Wow, sorry to hear about that Aaron. It sucks having a day of fun interrupted by something like that, but it's one of those things that happens... here's hoping your friend and your quad both make speedy recoveries. I wish I could help.
  12. I'm a little late on this, but I should post here since I've done business with Washburn... overall, a good experience, payment was sent promptly. There was a bit of a misunderstanding, but it was my fault, we got everything cleared up and it all worked out. Hope you're enjoying the parts, Neil!
  13. Don't be fooled into getting one of those CRX 80's without the powerband. Pick this one up! The whole power band thing's probably getting old by now, but seriously, of course it has a freakin powerband.
  14. My question is, if you use it for immoral purposes and the invisibility fails, does that void the warranty? :yelrotflmao:
  15. Damn you shudakeptquiet, you had me confused. I was like, "Yeah, let's see here, the Banshee was released in 1987, this one is a 2006, that'd be 19 years, what? Oh yeah, YAMAHA MOTOR COMPANY'S 50th anniversary." Here's a free bump. If I had $4300 I know where it'd be going.
  16. If you're gonna cut the front fenders, do it like this: Best of both worlds, it looks better than full cut fenders but it doesn't catch air like the stockers. I wouldn't cut the rear fenders if you paid me to. If I did, where would I put all the stickers?
  17. With what jayzx750 said, I think I'm just going to forego putting a 4-stroke in the Banshee altogether. To tell the truth, I would ultimately rather run a 4-stroke if only for the reliability factor, but the XS swap just doesn't sound like it'd work, and I certainly can't afford to put down the kind of money it'd take to put a crotch rocket engine in my Banshee. I'd sell the Banshee altogether, but as much money as I have in it now, I'd be taking a huge loss to sell it as a non-running quad, so I feel like I'm at kind of an impasse here. I suppose if I can figure out a way to put enough money together I'll rebuild the 350 that's in it, but I'm not sure what I'll be looking at money-wise yet since I don't know what all needs replacing.
  18. Thanks for giving me a much clearer idea of what I'd be looking at. I'm really starting to think maybe this isn't the best idea. That sounds like much more work than I was originally expecting.
  19. I'll do some checking on the 350 once I get it pulled out of the frame... I haven't been too ambitious over the winter months due to the cold, but when it warms up I'll bust out the manual and start tearing it down. I'll probably need a little help since I may not know exactly what to look for, but I already know that the top end might as well be replaced. Is there anything other than a fucked crankshaft that would cause the engine to lock up?
  20. Well, it's between that, and the time, money, and pain in the ass to rebuild the engine that's already in it. I can guarantee that, if nothing else, it's going to cost me more to rebuild the piece of shit that's in it now, because I can't think of that much that is even salvageable. There's no reason why this engine shouldn't be able to fire right up once everything's hooked up, so other than the cost of the engine itself (which as I said, is pretty much nothing), I'd be looking at maybe some time/labor costs, and whatever it'd cost to get a couple pipes fabbed for it. Obviously, if the engine isn't running, then yes, it would probably be a waste of time/money. But, $2500 that I'll never see again was dumped into the original engine, just to watch it blow sky-high due to what my mechanic claimed was "running it too hard and overheating it", you can probably see why I'd rather put a 4-stroke in it than dump more money into the original engine. As for getting beaten by stock Banshees, how do you figure? The stock numbers that I've seen for most Banshees are in the mid-30's to mid-40's. If we're talking modified Banshees, the only way they'll be blowing my doors off is on paper, because there are none around here. And anyway, there's an old saying that goes, "speed costs money, how fast do you want to go?" Maybe you've heard it. I can't go and plop down thousands of dollars on a racing motor that'll blow away every other quad on the planet. There's good reason why I want to put this engine in my Banshee and make it work, and it's because I'm on a BUDGET. I don't know what it's going to cost to get it going, but it's a complete engine. If you ask me, having a 50HP engine that runs > having a 60HP engine that needs another $1000 dumped into it before it'll even turn over. Like I said, die-hard 2-stroke fans need not apply.
  21. Alright, did a little research, and here's what I found out: the engine is from an XS650. From what I've read, I'd be looking at low-to-mid 50's horsepower wise, so as long as it doesn't have any issues that need to be worked out, it should be powerful enough. With a 4-stroke, I can just have custom-fabbed pipes, since the pipes' only duty with a 4-stroke is getting the exhaust out of the engine, right?
  22. It's not a V-twin. From what I can tell, fitting in the frame isn't the biggest problem, but height-wise, it might invade the gas tank's space.
  23. Bah... ignore the XR650 part... I meant to say XJ650 the first time.
  24. It's been many moons since I've posted here, but with summer rapidly approaching, I've decided that it's time that my Banshee (engine locked up tighter than a frog's ass and all) get a little more attention. I haven't torn into the 350 yet, but I'm guessing purely from what I know (the head o-rings are toast, the right side piston slapped the dome so I'll probably need to replace the top end at the very least, and the fact that it's locked up leads me to believe that the crank's a goner) that getting it back up and running would be a very expensive proposition. Here's the part where you start hating me. My friend pulled a 650 twin 4-stroke out of a wrecked street bike (I believe it was out of a Yamaha XR650, but am not entirely certain) and tinkered around with it, and it turns over, gets a good spark, and compression is fine. He didn't need the engine for anything in particular, and as I'm sure you've figured out by now I had bigger plans for the engine, so he pretty much gave it to me. Being as a 650 twin 4-stroke is a world apart from a 350 twin 2-stroke, I have a bunch of questions. The first one, of course, is WILL IT WORK? I've seen some Banshees that have been modified to work with a 4-stroke, so I personally don't see why it wouldn't work yet (and it has a kickstarter, so the electric starter could be removed) but again, there are a lot of differences between the stock Banshee engine and the one I have now. I need to know what all needs to be changed to get this engine mounted and running in my Banshee. From what I can tell, the stock twin carbs will hook up just fine, so I should be good there. Other than that, I'm not sure what will have to be done. If you're familiar with the 650 twin from the XJ650s, I would greatly appreciate your help. Die-hard 2-stroke fans need not apply.
