why try and turn a banshee motor into a low end motor? just buy a 400ex or something. banshee has a midrange motor from the factory. its got a good narrow midrange powerband. don't turn it into something that it isn't. to do that, you could have to cut the bottom of the cylinders to reduce the port timings. that would have a bonus side effect of reducing the squish and raising compression too. then you could have a powerful low rpm motor, but it would sign off early because of the port timings. . the banshee just isn't meant for low rpm power. thats what 4 strokes are for. maybe buy some power valve cylinders for low rpm power. or just buy that 400ex i was talkin about. gobs of low rpm gut pulling torque. gutless on thetop end. if you were to put a typical banshee up against a stock 400ex and fitted both quads with a 3000rpm rev limiter, the 400ex would kill a banshee. remove the limiters, and banshee murders 400ex all day long though.

its a mixed bag. i drag race on tarmac and dirt. i trail ride, i motocross, i take my 7-10 year old nephiews and neices on nice slow rides around the yard. i know cubs do not work for trials and mx. but thats ok because i don't race trails and mx. i can deal with losing whats left of my low rpm power. only time i have it at low rpm's is when i am ferrying my nephiews and neices around or just to warm the motor up. i just need to maintain at least a touch of midrange. would a cub cylinder give me any midrange at all? i have never rode a cub before, i have rode a few power valve cheetas though. oh those are so nice.

Cylinder setup for a 4 mil stroker crank?
csrmel replied to scottd480's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
the only way to truely take advantage of a 4mil is to get the cylinders ported. if you try to run a 4mm crank on stock ports with a spacer you will fuck to the port timings. even if you have stroker domes in a cool head and you dont use the spacer plate, but yet have stock port cylinders, youre port timings will still be fucked up. -
ok, whatever the stock cc is, i know its not 22.000cc's. if it's 22.75, or 23, etc . well,ok. but its not 22. why would a motor LOSE compression after its broken in? my brand new banshee came to me with about 125psi after i started it for the first time and warmed it up for 5 minutes. afters i broke it in, it went up almost 10psi on each cylinder.

i have a cheap $7 magnetic drain plug from ebay.l it has a neodymium magnet (the real powerful ones) . the actual plug is steel, so i don't see how the magnet is going to dislodge from the drain plug since magnetism will keep it firmly in place. and the magnet is pressed into a hole in the plug so there is friction holding it in as well. besides, the banshee cases are aluminum. only parts which would be magnetic are the trans parts. but that is a lot farther away from the magnet then the steel plug which the magnet is pressed into. why would someone affer a aluminum drain plug with a magnet? that sounds dumb to me. seems like the magnet could pull right out and stick to a gear if the magnet ever came lose from the aluminum. and GLUED ON? at the very least, it should be pressed into a hole drilled into the drain plug so friction can hold it in. i wouldnt reust anything to be glued inside a transmission. heck i wouldn't want to use an aluminum drian plug period. sounds like an easy way to strip the hex head. my plug always has magnetic slivers of steel on it when i change the oil. i have NEVER seen any engine or transmission out of any vehicle that used a magnetic drain plug and did NOT have slivers of metal on it. all rotating parts wear and create debris. might as well catch the debris and keep it attached to the drain plug instead of letting it flow around the transmission. for $7 you can't go wrong. unless you stupid enough to buy one made out of aluminum that is.........

22cc is NOT stock. i don't know what exactly stock is, i have heard 23.5 thrown around before though. i had a BRAND new banshee just broken in with a nice tight motor, had only a few hours on it. after break in, it had 133psi compression on both cylinders. i change to cool head with 22cc domes, it went up to 149psi. this is on a new motor, just broken in, no carbon deposits, no base gasket thickness problems etc. brand new factory motor in a brand new factory banshee. plus i checked my compression tester against my air compressor, they both read exactly the same if i hook up the tester to the compressor. the compressor gauge read 120psi, the tester read 120. p.s all my compression testings are at sea level. i was able to run all day every day with 22c's and +4 on 91 octane at sea level. never had a problem, even after minutes of full throttle 6th gear drifting.

What kind of gains do you guys think I could get going from ported stock cylinders to cub cylinders? I have: cpi in frames 4mm long rod thats been welded stock bore stock cylinders with a very nice port job that was done to match the cpi pipes (highly aggressive but not quite a full drag port) i basically told robert byrnes to port my cylinders just to complement the cpi pipes. he told me the port job would be close to a drag port but still retain a little midrange. they were also cut for the 4mm long rod, so i didnt need to use a spacer plate. uni clamp on filters 35mm keihin pwk's vf3 billet intakes to match the carbs heavy duty clutch springs, fzr plates cut shift star cool head with stroker long rod domes cut for 93 octane 4mm timing advance uh i think that's it.i have a bunch of other things done to the banshee but it isnt related to the motor. basically i am wondering what else i might need besides the cubs, new pistons, and some new domes? also what gains might i expect. (ball park figures please) im thinking that my stock bore cylinders would fetch a good amount of money since they are already ported by a reputable builder and do not need to be bored. no scratches on the cylinders, they are in perfect shape. i would include the nearly new pistons too. if i sold those items for a few hundred, the cubs might not even cost a grand after everything is said and done?

now that i have billet intakes and big ass keihin carbs i am going to miss runing my boost bottle. it made people think i didnt know shit about banshees so they assumed my motor was stock. i always ran that thing just to psyche people out like that. it worked great too. random guy: so i see you have a boost bottle, want to race? me: yeah it adds like 10hp to my midrange, lets race! ramdom guy: &%&^ eating dirt&%&% as i pass him by. me: youre quad is slow. you need a boost bottle so you can catch up. random guy: godamnit.

for $1200 i was able to buy a welded 4mm long rod crank, 795 pistons, custom cool head domes, a port matched upper case half, heavy duty clutch springs, and a full gasket and seal set. oh yeah, and i got my cylinders ported to match my cpi pipes, and to work with the stroker long rod crank. and a few sets of jets that are in the range that i needed. i did the tear down and rebuild my self, but i sent the case and cylinders out to get ported, and had domes custom cut for the stroker long rod crank.. other then those 3 items which are beyind my mechanical ability, i did everything else my self. thats what $1200 will get ya, if he does not have a cool head, the stock head can be cut for higher compression and for clearence with the stroker assembly for cheaper then it costs to get cool head domes. (sounds funny but is true) i also did some other things along the way that were free, i traded my t5 pipes for cpi's, cut my own shift star on a grinder wheel, trade a 13t sprocket for a 15t, sell my air box and use the money to buy clamp on uni filters. i cut the stock timing plate for 4 degrees of advance. alot of things you can do for cheap or even free like i just mentioned. bang for the buck is right there, free upgrades. cant beat free. don't underestimate the timing advance, 4 degrees gives you a shit tonne more bottom end and midrange power. more then t5 or cpi pipes filters reeds or anything else i tried. it did not seem to do anything for top end though. to go from a stock engine with t5's to a ported stroked monster running cpi's was a hell of an upgrade. but to do it for $1200 you need to have enough experience to to the teardown and rebuild youreself. rb porting does some really banging work for really cheap. and he will cut you a deal if you get work done and buy parts at the same time. plus you dont have to pay multipule times for shipping if you buy everything from one person. more ways to save money. if you just wated a cheap performance upgrade, send the stock cylinders out to get ported. tell the guy who is doing the porting to match the cylinders to youre pipes. then buy a set of 6 dollar heavy duty clutch springs and some clamp on filters from rmatv. might as well buy a set of new rings while you are at it. you can slao cut the stock head youreself with some sandpaper and a plate of glass. i did that on the stock head and it worked just as good as the cool head i eventually bought. 1. timing advance-diy head cut-trade stock parts for aftermaeket-shift star (do the free ones first) 2. clamp on filters. 3. pipes. 4 porting. 5. head work. 6. stroker crank (clutch springs and headwork required) 7. bigger carbs, intakes, reeds etc don't forget jetting. you change ONE engine parameter and you will have to rejet. change a bunch and it's even more important. some motorcycle or atv shops will let you change out jets for free with their existing inventory, provided youre jets are in like new condition, not clogged up, no rounded off hex heads etc. mine does, and thats a free way to jet an engine. my local shop actually gives banshee jets away for free too. that would be my order of importance for a typical banshee ryder. not knowing exactly how this banshee is used, i can only guess though.

I was in sebring (45 mins south of orlando) but I now reside in Palm Beach. thats too bad about being down here and not riding. I never even saw the thread. to be honest though, 2 weeks ago i was working 96 hours a week, I don't think I was even using the computer at the time, 2 best places to ride in florida for trails are ocala and croom. I don't know what the rules are for out of state bikes that require no registration though. Next time you come down hit up one of us florida boys with a pm and well get the info. back on topic. Where is gregrob? The fire under his keyboard seems to have died down.

Did what you said and I looked at that I had "typed" but the message was still the same. Guess I don't go back on my word. If you are only a couple hours away, follow the yellow belly , I mean yellow brick road down here and come out riding with me on sunday! I could use another girl to hold my drink, or you might make a great footrest while everyone relaxes after the ride. You wouldn't mind If i called you Dorothy while you are here? Also, according to you're profile, you still are in missouri, Dorothy. :P:P:P I know you realize I am joking about all this. *^*wink wink*^* Just ask daj.

thats my snell drag bike helmet. I had forgotten my mx helmet that day. First time you have seen that? I see it all the time around here. That is, if anyone bothers to wear one at all. -
sorry, I'm not queer like you. Sounds like you know how to give some real firey head though. Try Loco or Daj, I hear they are always looking for friends, with benefits. :P From what Loco tells me, Daj likes it when you make him squeal like a pig. nanana

Hey I'm a fat ass too, but what he did isnt right. He probably realizes that calling a fat guy fat really hurts. Sence he is fat himself, I'm sure he has been ridiculed as a teen, etc. Just like every other fat kid. So he used this against daj. Only he didn't expect our bansheehq detectives to find pics of him, Just for reference, Here's a pic of my fat ass. daj, why don't ya post a pic up as well. we might as well let our chips (or bulbous gut) fall where they may.

Just for reference, I called jeff today a few times. Each time I called he answered. Someone else was posting about him not answering or not returning calls. WHY would someone who makes a living selling things over the phone and on the Internet not answer or return calls? that doesnt make since. He makes MONEY off people who call him, or calls he returns. It's in his best interest to try and take every call he possibly can. Each time I called jeff today he answered. The one time he did not answer, I left a message and he called me back within 15 or 20 minutes. That is not bad at all! Nice guy on the phone, he will Bs with ya about banshees and whatever. We talked about different intake setups, bla bla bla. And I bought over $700 worth of shit from him today as well. But he didn't know I was going to buy that much shit so him answering the phone and returning the one call he didnt answer was genuine. I could of just been a broke ass tire kicker looking to waste time for all he knew. (i actually did buy tires though!) among other things. If that isnt decent service, then what is?

Wiring diagram: you can get all the parts on ebay for like $15 plus shipping. this is how I have it setup now. there is a better way though, and im going to re do my fan setup. the better way is to convert the entire bike to dc. as it is, the banshee charging system is a/c. the dc conversion only costs a few bucks more but you get higher lighting voltage, no more flickering lights at idle, etc. ill probably make a diagram for that too. its basically a knock off of a hid setup, without the hid's. painfully simple. can you cut a few wires, solder and use heat shrink? then you can do this. one day when i am not lazy or working 90 hours a week ill make a good how-to. as an alternative to ocala, anyone down for l-cross? they have a shit ton of trail, 25 miles long actually. hair scramble trails, etc. you can ride as fast as you want. wet t shirt contests, live bands, etc. only rules are standard protective gear. no liscence, no reg stickers, no title? no problem! -

park at the camn pgrounds. my knobbies are pretty worn, about 40% left. so I won't be very competitive with you guys unless we do some rolling start drags on the back roads. Is everyone going FOR REAL THIS TIME? last time I showed, only 2 other guys came. We rode for half a day and everyone left. It was kind of pathetic. for those who havent gone, here is a pic of me at ocala. and heres my banshee as it sits now. I would have to convert back over to sand, but I'm not going to bother unless yall confirm you are going. Otherwise I'll stick to my drag setup for moroso this week.
