He Could have a bent shift fork, but yes trans do go bad espacially when you jam gears or let the fluid leave go to loww I had my second gear lock up on the shaft from getting to hot. Or hey could have the shift adjuster way off.

The Aftermarket needle is longer and the stcok needle has 5 slots and a the aftermarket has 6. With it not being responsive you might not have it jetted right yet.
I had FMF's on mine when I got it they where nice but when I changed to T5's i was a night and day differance. I ride Dunes and some trails and my T5's are great. My 2c's would be go for the Toomey T5's.
My F.A.S.T. Clutch I run 3 hd and 3 oem Like Bansh-emane said if you start to soak them when you start to change the clutch by the time your ready to install the plates they are soaked enough.
