  1. I run stock cages with stops on carbon tech mid tension reeds. Seems to be the best for my low-mid ported setup.
  2. Full Ported as in a duner or Drag? or resleeved and ported low end?
  3. Stock cages with carbon reed petals or designed low-mid range reed will make more low-mid hp than a set of vf3's. The vf3's will make more top end hp on a mid-top motor. VF3's on anything less than a mid-top ported bike are a waste of money.
  4. What pipes, and what porting? VF3's are the wrong way to go for reeds on a low-mid motor.
  5. No way of telling what the port is setup for without measuring the port heights and widths.
  6. Yes the swingarm will bolt up ok. The 87 had different mount locations for the chain sliders, so the 87 had different sized chain rollers. 89 has the odd ball hub bolt patterns and the different sized front brake calipers compared to the a-arm bikes. If you keep the same spindles and just add upper a-arms it will all work ok.
  7. I will never own a swingarm without a round carrier again. The stock carriers make me want to fly to Japan and assasinate the ceo of Yamaha Motor Corporation.
  8. Probably not. Just need 50/50 if you need any higher octane at all. 21cc with a raised exhaust port will probably put you around 145-155 psi.
  9. What year is your frame? There was some differences on the 87 model frames. Its actually 87-90 where the j-arm bikes.
  10. To accurately check the compression, the motor needs to have been warmed up first, then check it immediately after.
  11. What year is the J-arm frame?
  12. I have had two podos racing arms. They will tell you its not for jumping. I broke one jumping. The second one they sent me under warranty had been reinforced where the old one broke. Cheap arm with round house carrier and its been fine otherwise.
  13. Whoever ground out the intakes didn't do a great job.
  14. I already did. If its a non forest approved silencer then its going to be the optimum output tuned silencer stinger setup for the exhaust pipe. The forest approved silencers are de-tuned. They dont have to meet epa or sound requirements on aftermarket exhaust. Stock pipes run like crap because they were poorly designed and they are double walled stamped design for sound reduction. The actual expansion chamber sizes are smaller than they appear on stock pipes.
  15. Call around and get some needle and power jet starting points. Those carbs will make more low end power than keihins or mikunis and maintain the same mid-top power. They are great carbs, just hard to tune if your used to a conventional carburetor.
  16. The gravel like sand isn't hard on them. Just got to go slow on the rock until I get back to the sand.
  17. I ride nice sand, but I have had them out at beverly dunes which is gravel sand and hard pack rock.
  18. You need a set of super lights, thats good paddle with light weight.
  19. Getting rid of the pro circuits and switching to those other pipes is gonna kill of your low end power.
  20. St. Anthony in Idaho. So 5.0 your switching over to a hillshooter dune drag setup?
  21. I ride the dunes on the Oregon coast and in Idaho.
  22. I seriously doubt 137 hp. I completely doubt it. If that was the case, then twister and superior sleeve wouldn't have made all the big money they did on small blocks and big blocks. Their stuff would be getting whooped up on by stock cylinder 4 mill bikes. My guess is a not so accurate dyno, or someone has changed the story because of word of mouth.
  23. Search Result Link
  24. Maybe with the transfers welded up and ground out. Highly unlikely though. Most of them dont get over 80-85hp on stock cylinders. It can all depend on the dyno it was tested on as well. Rear wheel dynojets are known for being way off on their numbers. So it wouldn't suprise me if thats what happened.
  25. Flatslides tend to have crisper throttle response.
