Yeah, technology is too expensive NOT to get the warranty on some stuff. I have an 800 dollar digtial camera (SLR type, body only) and I dropped it at the Super Bowl parties this year in Detroit. The smash 'em up warranty didn't start until the manufacturer's ended, so...be sure to check that. However, I very calmly explained my situation (albeit a little embelished) saying here are my Super Bowl credentials, I don't have two weeks to send it out. For the price of a new warranty, (70 beans) they gave me a new one right there on the spot.... Trx... Spilling a poweraide is one thing, but a beer?? C'mon...that's blashphemy....YOu should be banned for a week... :baseball_bat:

hook an external monitor up...see if it comes on. If the LCD is shot, throw it out, unless you wanna use a monitor with it.
-
You'll lose on bottom but gain a bit on top. No problem...and good for you for using what works for you!

If you have tire irons already, try it yourself. If not...get it done. IMO, the hardest point is not getting it on the rim, rather sealing the bead. No, they don't need to be balanced. You can seat the bead by using a tow strap and cranking down a little around the tread of the tire...then there's the old lighter fluid trick.. Well, never mind that last one. Honestly, pay someone a few bucks to do it. It'll be worth it versus having smashed fingers and a busted ass...

still cant get this pig to start

Have you done a leakdown test? How do the reeds look, any of them chipped, missing, burned? Retrace all of your wiring. Did you disconnect the TORS properly? Getting a good ground? All the wiring connections tight and clean? You did put the idle screw kit in the carbs after removing the tors, right? Slides in correctly (the small cutaway facing the back of the carbs) I don't see what you did for air cleaners, are you using the air box, w/ or w/o lid, clamp on filters? You don't need a 30 pilot...27.5 should be fine, and it should at least start with a 25 in there... I'd double check two things. a. Slides not installed backwards and b. Float bowls are on the right carbs. See how shee goes. -
Ignition or coil? I thought the MSD needed a battery to run, is that still the case? If so...that would turn me away right there...
-
Sorry...not gonna happen. It might pull a 15 with 18 inch rear tires, but...not very well. you need more than just pipes... What is a 355 kit? Bored like .030, right? Yeah, you're gonna need more to pull 16...

Yeah, they LOVE timing. once I get to dyno...I'll tell you all what I end up with...

MotoMan has some good stuff, in canton, MI. Didn't realize his prices were that good, only 45 minute drive for me...

I have one if not two (don't remember) stock coils if you'd like to try one. You pay for the ride, and on your honor...flip me a 20 if you keep it, send it back if it doesn't make a difference. No hurry on the cash...I'd rather a fellow member and rider put it to use than have it be a dust collector... PM me if you're interested.

Guilty myself... See what I mean...sred? Too many posts in too many threads. Maybe I should try riding...well, it's been 90s here for a while, maybe not.... :yelrotflmao:

No problem Sred. No offense taken at all. I've honestly been bored all day for a while at work now...so I've been picking through a TON of threads... Too many obviously! I agree...you could spend a lifetime figuring out what needle clip, main jet, etc. combo works best... It's all good!! Good to see you round here a bit more!
-
Wow...my bad. I gotta unsubscribe to a few of these jetting threads... I thought I read it ran perfect with the 2nd clip and the choke pulled out... That was another user, another thread... Ok...I guess I gotta unplug for a while and unsubscribe to a few more. Good pointing that out..sred. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. The needle has 5 or 6 clips for adjusment, there is NO one standard answer, only averages... Nice post, Sred... dajo...OUT.
-
Um...not to be a smart ass...but, what do you think about it running like that? Can't be good...period. I think the more you ride it, the more damage you're going to do...and if you can't afford a leak down tester right now, putting a fresh top end on with possibly a new crank is really gonna sting. Unless someone has a leak down tester they're willing to "loan" you...you're SOL for now...sorry Bill. I don't think you're too far from R&B racing, his handle on here is machwon. He sells an excellent kit, and has his own shop in the saginaw area... Maybe you two could work out a deal for him checking it out for you. If you think it's pricey now...it only gets worse. Something is not right...

I'd say remove the battery, hold down the power for about 10 seconds, then...if you have the skill, take it apart. Laptops are not for the weak or faint of heart. However, it's a boat anchor if it doesn't work...so where's the risk at this point? Poweraide is gonna be sticky when it dries, too... Keyboard stuck, etc. Use some rubbing alchohol and cotton swabs to clean it best you can. Careful when removing the keyboard and touchpad and/or pointing stick. They have very small, flat ribbons held down to the mobo by a plastic clip.... Good luck! Toshiba makes a fine notebook, Steve...you'll do well. Sams' club and Costco carry very good offerings from HP...from cheap to pricey, small to huge screens. ALWAYS buy accidental damage coverage for laptops. The screen is the single biggest failure on them, and they're normally broke by accident. They range in price from 400 to 1000 bucks.

I had an old shaved flywheel, and you could hear the magnets broken up inside. Caused all kinds of problems, the power dropped off the dyno at about 6Gs, just as it was starting a nice climb... Replaced it with a brand spanking new (non-shaved) Ricky Stator Flywheel, problem solved. I wouldn't worry about the nicks, as said. But, if you can hear something rattling inside, it's the magnets. Dirt can't get in there. By no fault of Broke's...this could've happened by rough handling from shipping....
-
That's backwards... If you lower the clip (towards the pointed end) it will give more fuel... The sooner the needles raises, the more fuel (richer)... He and I PM'd quite a few times, and I did suggest this. Obviously, there's a clog somewhere, or...it's starving for fuel.

crank welded?
-
Depends on the pipe... On my T5s, it allowed the hit to happen sooner and it felt much more smooth than with the stock flywheel. If your pipe has a midrange and up distinctive hit, I'd go shaved.... Between that and my timing plate, my motor got a lot easier to ride and keep on the pipe when it was a stocker...

What cylinders are you running to get to 404? Are they stockers resleeved? A .100 over kit is only 382 cc on stock cylinders. I agree w/ RILS. List the mods, including carb type. List your temps and current riding elevation. You're "spinning your wheels" until we have that info...

I'm going to assume Jim's MX port is nothing like a drag port...so, I agree, the mains are rich too. Keep in mind the Toomey needles are longer but thinner in diameter than stockers. You stay on the needle longer, but...it's a richer needle. IMO... I'd drop the pilot to 27.5 as said. Put the needle in the 3rd clip from the blunt end and try a 350 main...

jetting help close but not there yet old style fmf pipes

Two things. With the airbox lid still on, put the stock pilot back in...I don't care what FMF says. Second, they make a tool called a syncrometer. PM or call Jeff of FAST racing on here, it's a priceless tool. FASTOYS is his screen name.... You use it to set idle, then give it about 1/4 throttle or so, and check again to make sure they're pulling the same amount of air through 'em... I'd also put the needle back to the middle spot. It sounds like you're really rich off the bottom. For that matter, 270 sounds rich on the main with the airbox lid still on. What do your plugs look like? I'd bet they're dark.... -
Wow..Dan actually answered the phone? Wow...he must have heard it passing by on the way to the can. However, Dan is very busy I understand, and builds some fast ass shit, that is indisputable. I'd call Jeff @ FAST too. Great guy, even better prices. He's my first call for any parts, even if I know I can save a buck or two on fleabay...his service is worth it.
-
Shake it, make sure you can't hear any magnets busted up inside. I say run it too. Props to broke for manning up and offering a refund on part plus shipping if the buyer has any issues. Stand up man in my book.
