  1. Funny you should mention that. When I sold mine, after beating the shit out of it for 3 years, it would only go into 2 and 4th half the time. I offed it pretty cheaply... Whitaker Racing does override trannys for most of the bikes out there, but...they MIGHT rebuild and/or fix a stock tranny... On Planetsand.com his handle is yama007, and on ebay it's WCR or something like that. Give him a call when you're ready. You have an excellent trail bike when you get it back together, I promise!
  2. Fatty pipes, airbox with no lid, right? Not missing anything else? Try 270 mains and 27.5 pilots, middle clip on the needle. That main might be a little rich...but, better safe than sorry.
  3. I agree... Try new plug caps, they're cheap. Then...I wouldn't buy just a new pickup....a new stator on a plate is 125...the pickup alone is 35 or 40 bucks I think. Kill two birds... Not sure what the voltage is supposed to measure, but....if you pickup a clymers manual, you can OHM test both the stator AND coil.
  4. It's not very often, Wes...but for once I very strongly agree with you on this point. It's unfortunate that this country is becoming (has become) a place where you can not only bake your cake...but eat it too.... Climb any hill....I might have taken it too far, but...it is what it is. When you give someone an inch, they take the yard... It is everyone's country....but we shouldn't have to bend over backwards to accommodate everyone...
  5. freak.... You've been a member here long enough, you're read and researched enough... I have to believe you only posted this thread to start another shit slinging extravaganza... That's piss poor, IMO.... Obviously you all know who I deal with, but only after I called (and waited for them to call back) just about every other big name in the biz. A&S, GRR, K&T, Redline, RDZ, Dave Moore, the lists go on and on..... I've said it before, I'll say it again....call each one, see who gives you the best service, best pricing, and make your decision.... Please, we have enough of these threads already....this builder vs. this builder.....total BS.
  6. Now see...that's where it really gets me. I don't care....you're in AMERICA...we speak English. I don't want to press 9 for spanish, etc....when I make a phone call. Go to another country, and see how accomodating they are to us. They're not. You either learn the language and find your way, or you sit on the side of the road with your thumb up your arse. Whatever you wanna speak in your own home, is fine. In public...speak English. It's our language. To me...it's thinking like that which makes it so hard for those of us born and bred here to live...I grew up in an English speaking nation...speak it....or don't blame us when you can't make it and life is just so difficult for you...
  7. Check compression again....always good to have a baseline for a fresh top end. Since you didn't mention riding temps or elevation, I'll give you the averages for pipes... With airbox and lid, no snorkel, 240 to 260 With airbox NO lid or screen lid, etc., 250 to 270 NO airbox at all, 310 to 340... These are taking into consideration your riding temps are 70 to 90 degrees, at or near sea level. 210 is too small a main, unless you're at 4000 feet or above with just those FMF pipes....and then It still might be a hair lean...
  8. check all your electrical, wires...etc. check for burnt, broken, shortened wires. Then....if all the wires from head to tail light check out, do a compresion and leak down test.
  9. Check compression...then pull the head off. I'm hoping you didn't twist your crank out of phase....
  10. What difference does that make? Detroit is derived from French ancestry, but I don't see any Jaques or Pierres running around the big D, do I? I assure you they don't speak French, either... I agree 100% with gimmeabeer. ALL Races have their good and bad citizens. I don't care what color your skin is, race, nationality, etc. If you are here to be a respectful and productive citizen, take care of your house, belongings, yourself, etc., it's all good to me. It's the people that think this country owes them something that make me sick. You've got your freedom in the land of opportunity.... If you don't like it, get the FU** OUT....
  11. I pretty much can't believe this thread is still going. The wrap will not make a noticeable difference in noise output, period. It will make it so you don't burn your leg as easily....that's about it. You're going to waste pipes by wrapping them to talk to a passenger on your single passenger quad? that's about as pointless as it gets.... Put stock pipes back on.... :shoothead:
  12. Turkey....the other white meat...LOL. Happy Thanksgiving all...
  13. Hard to start when cold is a good sign the top end is getting worn, if the Jetting isn't WAY out of whack. I'd do a compression test next.
  14. Upload that pic to: http://imageshack.us/ COpy and paste the hotlink for forums in this board....glad to hear you had fun. Happy Turkey day!!
  15. ok...sorry, just didn't want you gernading that motor easily... 15cc domes in a motor with a good top end would easily place you over 200lbs and then some. If the top end is in good working order, you prolly have 18 or 19cc domes... It depends on the overall health of your motor. My motor was brand new this year, but I have a welded stroker crank, fresh top end, etc. I had 185 PSI in each, ran my plate at +8 and curve 3 on the dyna (most overall advance) Cub motors love timing. At 175 PSI, you need straight race gas, regardless of the ignition...or your motor will not last long. Once you go to straight 110 octane or so, put 4 degrees on the plate, and play with the curves....see how you like it.
  16. OJ...for 150 bucks on this bike, if you screw it up....SO WHAT!! Good learning tool for you! I would just massage the openings, smooth them out...and remember, do NOT polish anything in the intake tract. I know they make boysen reeds for that bike, and they're like 20 bucks. My old bike has mossbarger reeds, but...good luck finding those. That little bike can be made fun to rip around on.... If my current shee wasn't draining my time, money...etc., I'd like to have that project back!!
  17. You mean the "Reverend" Jesse Jackson...who, um...fathered a child out of wedlock? Yeah, that guy... Not that it has anything to do with race (the child thing) but...those two, Jesse and Al Sharpton, are some of the biggest racists around. Can you just imagine the uproar if there was a million man march targeted for white/caucasian folks... Yet they feel free to run their mouths on public TV to the blind masses and anyone that will listen...only to play arm chair quarterbacks and second guess peoples decisions... If they're so smart and care so much, run for public office and make a change.... While I'm not a racist, I won't stand for the double standard, either.... We've all heard of the girl/guy who put down on their college app they were part of a minority group just to get a better chance at scholarship money....right? BS...
  18. I usually don't get involved in these threads, but here's my .02... 1. I agree...we've become way too easy and lay down for our beliefs, personal or otherwise. If we just went along and tried not to piss anyone off, England would still be our owner. Blacks would still be slaves, etc..... 2. If blacks get pissed for whites calling them Nigger....don't call us cracker, uncle tom, etc. It's only fair. My good friend is a Detroit cop, white. I'm not telling anyone anything new by saying the majority of Detroit's population is black....no news. He is very very careful not to use any racial slurs, and he is very hot tempered. However, since blacks want to sue for being slurred, why is it whites can't sue for being called cracker, etc.? it's only fair, right? The whole NAACP thing about Katrina makes me sick... Like the government didn't react quickly enough because they were black. Got news for you, research the facts...the mayor had the funds and knowlege to fix the levys that broke, he spent it elsewhere. This natural disaster was just that...an act of nature. Something nearly equal happed in North or South Dakota, a disaster quality snow storm, stopping everything in it's tracks. Did they cry to FEMA? no. Did they blame anyone? No. Did they stand in line looking for hand outs? no... They helped each other, best they could...neighbor to neighbor, made the best of it...and didn't blame everyone else for their disaster.... Here is the whole story...decide for yourself. Subject: Katrina vs North Dakota THINK ABOUT THIS FOR A MOMENT North Dakota News This text is from a county emergency manager out in the western part of North Dakota state after a snow storm last winter. WEATHER BULLETIN Up here in the Northern Plains we just recovered from a Historic event--- may I even say a "Weather Event" of "Biblical Proportions" --- with a historic blizzard of up to 44" inches of snow and winds to 90 MPH that broke trees in half, knocked down utility poles, stranded hundreds of motorists in lethal snow banks, closed ALL roads, isolated scores of communities and cut power to 10's of thousands. FYI: George Bush did not come. FEMA did nothing. No one howled for the government. No one blamed the government. No one even uttered an expletive on TV. Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton did not visit. Our Mayor's did not blame Bush or anyone else. Our Governor did not blame Bush or anyone else either CNN, ABC, CBS, FOX, or NBC did not visit - or report on this category 5 snow storm nobody demanded $2,000 debit cards. No one asked for a FEMA Trailer House. No one looted. Nobody - I mean Nobody demanded the government do something. Nobody expected the government to do anything either. No Larry King, No Bill O'Rielly, No Oprah, No Chris Mathews and No Geraldo Rivera. No Shaun Penn, No Barbara Striesand, No Hollywood types to be found. Nope, we just melted the snow for water. Sent out caravans of SUV's to pluck people out of snow engulfed cars. The truck drivers pulled people out of snow banks and didn't ask for a penny. Local restaurants made food, and the police and fire departments delivered it to the snow bound families.. Families took in the stranded people - total strangers. We Fired up wood stoves, broke out coal oil lanterns or Coleman lanterns. We put on an extra layers of clothes because up here it is "Work or Die". We did not wait for some affirmative action government to get us out of a mess created by being immobilized by a welfare program that trades votes for 'sittin at home' checks. Even though a Category "5" blizzard of this scale has never fallen this early, we know it can happen and how to deal with it ourselves. "In my many travels, I have noticed that once one gets north of about 48 degrees North Latitude, 90% of the world's social problems evaporate." It does seem that way, at least to me. I hope this gets passed on.. Maybe . SOME people will get the message .. The world does Not owe you a living
  19. Yep, put it in the vice, use a little heat so it doesn't snap.
  20. It does cause a lean condition, but it won't always read right on your plugs. I had a BAD air leak on my cub, but no matter what jet I put in, from 200 (stock) to 380, it didn't make a bit of difference, and the plugs were WET all along the way. However, it started perfect, idled perfect, seemed to free rev ok in Nuetral, but...put it in gear...BLAAAHHH....right on it's face. If you've run more than a 1/2 tank through it...beat on it. You don't want to hold it wide open for long periods of time with a brand new motor, but you certainly can rev it out...just don't hold it pinned. Idle to 1/8 is pilot/air screw. 1/8 or so to 3/4 is needle. Get the pilot sorted, then work on the needle clip.
  21. 85 and 86 are the same bike, and 85 is the first year. They are most easily visually distinguishable by the lack of a "T" seat. In other words, first two years had a flat, square seat in the rear, 87 and newer had a "T" in the back. First two years also had a black front radiator cover, newer had blue. I THINK they were made to early 90's...maybe 92? Not sure....been a while. No power valve, you'd have to get an 87 or newer motor, the jug won't fit on the old style case. As said in the PS thread, oj....I had an AAEN pipe back in the day, it was cool. My little 85 ran like raped ape, and kept up with piped/jetted banshees until it topped out in 5th, but...ported shees smoked it. (And my 250 was drag ported)... You're going to spend more time hunting down parts because the 85 and 86 are rare, first generation bastard years...but, you should still be able to make due... Good luck...I'll try to dig up an old pic or two of my old "sweetie". They handle better than a banshee hands down, and are very light... The nice thing is the 85 and 86 swingarm had the round Honda Style bearing carrier...for some stupid Reason 'zuke went away from that in 87...dumb dumb dumb. Good luck!!
  22. Sorry...I meant seat, and fired that response off too quickly!!! No harm, no foul...it's all good...
  23. Don't worry Wes....I'll get you those dyno sheets... Yeah, 15cc...WTF...how high are you bro?? Unless you're at like...uh, 10,000 feet above sea level, that's way too much pressure and stress on the motor...and uncalled for. According to this weather page, Montreal is at 118 ft. elevation. http://www.wunderground.com/global/station...eclick=miniDial Change those domes....you're killing that motor...
  24. The seat isn't going anywhere, it's stationary... What you mean is the spring loaded tip on the needle itself, which is put on offroard carbs for going over bumps, etc. Just the weight of the float itself will NOT push that down, it requires more effort, like a gentle push....unless the spring is bad, which...I've personally never seen. Don't get me wrong, your method is great, but...you could very easily push that spring just as easy....and mine is no mess... (I try not to run it upside down...but...well, ya know. Shit happens... :yelrotflmao:
  25. Agreed. Also, drain the tank, remove the fuel valve and make sure the primary and reserve pickup tubes aren't clogged up....as well as make sure the cap is venting properly (shake it, should rattle a bit)...
