Free bump... 40 beans for just about every bolt on the bike? Sheesh...John. That could be someone's gold mine!!! I'd pick it up if cash wasn't so tight right now.... Good luck...you've got some good stuff, great pricing on there.

By the way...I can promise you if the guy you bought it from said it is a long rod, it is...you're just not going to have low end out of a cub, no ifs ands or butts about it. You're at almost the same jetting I was at on my 4 mil 68mm cub. They seem to like a fatter main but leaner pilot. I had 48, CEL middle and 150 mains. It ran very, very hard....on 35PWKs. Over 100 passes at the 300 ft sand drags and two good days of riding at the dunes. I'll have some disassembly pics posted up one of these days...now that the motor is out and it's "more mods" time!!
-
it's cause he has a 96 (I have a 96..ha ha...) J/K... The jetting doesn't sound that far off, but...I agree. You're not going to benefit from those pipes as much as a bike with a dune or drag port. Then you need carbs to match... Toomey piped bikes run very, very well when tuned right on stock ports. At 160 PSI...what kind of gas/oil are you using. You're on the verge of needing a pump/race gas mix at that compression....

I think the squish is too tight on the one piston that got chewed up. Notice it melted around the edges, NOT in the middle.... Possible a bad crank bearing on that side allowing the piston to touch...or almost touch the head itself. I'd be tearing that whole motor down, have the crank checked, the cylinders bored and chamferred, and the head checked for flatness. Then check the squish....

flywheel lightening........in canada?
dajogejr replied to banshee freak's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
Boonman did my old flywheel as well...great guy. However...I will never ship anything out of country, too many hoops to jump through and paper work. I'd PM boonman, but if not...call Dave Moore Racing. I'd be certain he ships world wide. www.davemooreracing.com -
Actually, some builders include the bore with a port job. Builders prefer to port first, then bore and chamfer just in case the "slip" while porting. Hey, no one is perfect...and it can happen to anyone.

NO. You're wasting money on bigger carbs with stock porting, stop wasting your time. Bigger carbs aren't going to flow as efficiently on a stock port motor. I know you don't want to or are afraid to open that motor up. But, you're missing out on SERIOUS power by not getting it ported, period. Reaper: The dyna costs on average 260 to 300. The cable and software costs 100. Then...dyno time to tune it in. While I have a dyna...I already had my cub motor first. That nearly 300 to 400 dollars could be better spent on porting and a fresh top end. I think what this guy wants to do is try and bolt on as much HP as possible, he's already done that. You could spend 300 or so on a pair of 28mm carbs...to get a few HP, but....you could spend 400 or so...and easily get 15 to 20. Seems like an easy answer....

pistons instead of porting?
dajogejr replied to The Faster Cracker's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
I have tried them...and I didn't notice any more performance gain than a fresh bore and a fresh top end of any piston maker would give you. So... Based on MY experience, they don't do squat...sorry. -
That's pretty good. I've been playing around with photoshop myself. Here's before pic: And....AFTER: :yelrotflmao: :yelrotflmao: :yelrotflmao: :yelrotflmao:

pistons instead of porting?
dajogejr replied to The Faster Cracker's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
Easy way to settle this one.... Call 5 top builders, see if they use them. Most experienced builders have used/tried every piston in the book. Since Vito's is in MI, why don't you call RDZ, Grand River Racing, Tyson Racing, A&S...(All in MI) and see if they use 'em. Then call a few other big names, see if they do as well. All of these builders spend hours getting one to two more HP out of their bikes. If simply slapping in a set of pistons make "Noticable" power, then these guys would use them. A lot of these guys live and die by dyno numbers and their results at the track... Who wants to make the calls? -
Return the boost bottle for a refund if you can, get a bunch of extra spark plugs, premix or gear oil. They're better investments. The torque for the nuts is the same. 20 to 22 ft. lbs, and MAKE SURE you tighten/torque them in sequence. I torque them in a pattern, 10lbs, then go around again to 15, then finally 20. That way you know you're getting a nice, even seat and seal.

On my 4 mil cub, 6 over swinger, 10 paddle haulers 22X10X8 with a 72" rollout, I got ALL kinds of traction.... I'm going farther out back (from 6 to 14 over) or I'd be keeping them, great, great tire. (no, not for sale, yet....a buddy's got dibbs on 'em.)

stock motor vs. 4 mil stock motor
dajogejr replied to 87banshee_rider's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
What you're basically asking us is...can I build a "Sleeper" style motor, drop in a drop in crank, and be noticeably faster? NO. You MIGHT get 7% or so out of it, but that's with a recut head, spacer plate...etc. And if you even mention stroker crank and STOCK pipes in the same sentence....you're wasting you time and efforts, to be honest. That motor needs to breath period, via carbs and exhaust....then porting. You will gain more by porting than you will a stroker crank. However, same can be said about porting. Wasting your time on stock exhaust.... -
Ditto... No one will stick their neck out and say with 100% certainty you can do this or that....and be safe. Too many variables...all we can do is point you in the right direction with averages...

I'd buy a set already mounted on 8 inch rims. Sell the combo of what you have now. Banshees like a taller, skinnier tire when it comes to sand, and I agree...8 paddles on yours will be fine. Planetsand.com has a sponsor, Jim's Sand Toys or something like that....he's got the best prices on rims/tires around that I know of.... I tried to find him, but...they're working on their banners...

Glad to hear it's all running good. I had a ton of problems with my build early this year, got it sorted...and been smiling ever since... I've learned a little from this post too...some very good info put forth on it!

I would bet if you call one or both of these companies, they could tell you..(don't bother emailing, they don't write back) www.sudco.com www.carbparts.com

CHEAP YFZ 450 NEED ENGINE REBUILD.
dajogejr replied to braxton's topic in For Sale - Parts & Accessories
Braxton... I have a good friend of mine ready to deal on the whole bike shipped to MI. I've PMed you as well...please reply...Thanks!!! Daj.. -
MIlo...before you put more timing on it, I'd check your compression first. I'd hate to see you put a timing plate on, do the work...spend the money, and then find out you need to run a mix of pump/race gas.... Just a thought.
-
A few things. With 18cc domes, you're pushing some good compression unless you're at a really high elevation. You need to think about having your stock crank welded so it doesn't separate. Port the motor, and your chances increase again. Free: Stock carbs Cheap: bore stock carbs Pricier..: 28PWK carbs. I can't stand the stock carbs...they are prone to sticking... Even once you remove the TORS BS. PWKs are so much easier to work on.
-
You've done all the bolt ons you can. Short of suspension, gearing and tire changes....you're about maxed out. Get porting when you're ready for a fresh top end....
-
I was almost like...WTF is this guy talking about...whew....glad I read the whole thing...LOL. I rode an 02 bone stock except for a motofast 2 into one and a shaved head. It was fun, if you don't mind short shifting....to me, it takes away...rather changes the whole nature of the banshee though. If you're only gonna trail ride, you're still better off with a 4 poke...
-
Did you actually rebuild the motor you were saving up to? Have you done a compression and leak down test? Did you COMPLETELY disassemble the carbs and clean them out? I'd bet you've got some clogged passages in the carbs. Another dumb question, but the air cleaner(s) are clean, properly oiled and new spark plugs, right?

It's not about the votes. Jeff and Jim have loyal followers...who cares if the vote is anonymous... You can use the search button just like everyone else. FAST followers will tell you he is the best, Passion followers will tell you he is the best, ...just like anything else. Why ignite the fire?...you'll never get a straight answer, period. Call 'em both. Then call the others....don't ask us to make the decision for you.. Here is the only thing your poll will accomplish: Choose the winner on a popularity contest. That's it...period. Do you want a builder working on your stuff based on their popularity, or their business ethics, pricing, etc.? By just clicking FAST or Passion, you're NOT GETTING THE WHOLE Story....which you can by doing the search...right?
