Get the right domes. What is your squish and squish band? My 10 mil backed 'em out and burned a strapped, and I had pumper carbs feeding it plenty of fuel for 300 to 500 foot dune racing. Your timing is way conservative as is your compression for a methanol motor. You should be able to run 7degrees all day, unless this is a HUGE bore and stroke motor... Been there, done that...get the correct domes. Have a shop machine you a set of alky domes...a competent shop...

Try MagicRacing.com.... See if they're any better for oil.

At the speeds you get on a banshee (70ish to 80) no...it is not enough to make a difference. If this was on a road race bike that saw 120 to 150MPH alot, yeah, it would be worth a couple HP...maybe. As said, John @ DynoEdge here in MI did this a long time ago. If you want it for the "cool, different" factor...go for it. But that's all it's gonna be!

Unless it's VERY whooped out....no link. You setup your shock different for a no link, that's all. There is more direct pressure on it, so it must be adjusted appropriately... All the guys I run with, small and big motor, stock and aftermarket chassis...run no link in the dunes, and it can get pretty whooped up. Keep the links for the duners and trail bikes....considering you have a 12 over arm...duning and trails do NOT apply....

I think on a smaller motor, either will be fine. As 00 said, the slingshot style is made in two flavors. One that fits under a stock cover (a little pricier) and one that runs under an extended cover like the direct drive style. I've run both. I currently run the slingshot and have no plans to change. I think where the slingshot really starts to shine is on the bigger drag motors...

Their drag axles are some of the best in the biz...I've seen them on 200 to 300HP turbo or NOS drag bikes...they work. I loved mine...

If you want something fast...get a 450. But they are reliable as a brick...you can beat the hell out of them all day long. Good trail quad, not great, but a good trail quad. And because of all the 450s out, they're CHEAP... It's fun, not fast...so remember that as you're looking. I had one, best quad I bought at the time because I went all the way to the dunes, smoked a stator on my drag bike, bombed around the dunes the rest of the weekend on mine. Went out a month later, same thing, popped orings on the top..bombed around again. Mine had a cam, a little more compression, pipe and air filter with works shocks up front. Great play, fun quad....

20 degrees...pfft. It was high 60's last week...touched 70. This week...30's...LOL. Yeah, we have a HUGE diff in temps. you have to richen it up if you were dialed in for summer riding temps.

Never mind guys... we're muddying up this guys thread only to go back and forth. Sorry I mentioned it. Good luck on the Wii trade.

I honestly don't know about the Couture fight....Lesnar is just a strong meat head...we'll see how the old man schools him. He's gonna have to get a shot in and hurt him, I honestly don't see him muscling him around and controlling him like he did Sylvia the goon... Biggest fight every? Maybe for Lesnar....certainly not otherwise. However, it'll set a pay per view record. Randy on HDNet fight review even said he doesn't see him and Fedor ever fighting, which is too bad, fans abroad and both men want that fight to happen... Too much business and politics in the middle. I've never watched ultimate fighter... There's enough reality TV on, we didn't need another... But....from a business standpoint, it's vaulted UFC to heights it could never have dreamed about without it.

Everyone on here is going to give you their favorite builder.... get a list, call them all, you do NOT want the cheapest port job. Look for references from current members, etc. See what is running at your local track. Talk price, turn around time, etc. For the northern folks, season is over...so they're going to be slowing down. For the Cali/Vegas duner/drag racing crowd...season just started back up, so they are going to be busier... Talk that over too. If you want your motor back in one month but the builder is back logged for a few months...well, that's what you need to know up front.

Cheetah, NOT cubs. 4 mil, 14 and 16 mil last I checked. He won't sell cylinders only. He will build a complete motor top to bottom, crate it and ship it. What are you looking for. As said...I could list pages long of what he has...what do you need?
-
Harry @ Trinity still builds a great motor. I think the frustration people have with them is the got huge, got commercialized and the once great personal one on one attention left, and you got so so products out of there. If you're going to pay for a top notch port job, you should get that back...not just a run of the mil hack with a grinder... Their pricing for a few things is a bit high, however...on some things, they are the only place to get parts from (certain odd or older pistons for drag motors for example).. CONGRATS to you!! Well done!

GOD DAMMIT...why did I take those stickers off it... Now I have to buy another one...

Increase the pilot 1-2 sizes, 2-3 on the main.

My boost bottle gave me 25 HP and 3 tenths off my drag bike.... :shoothead:

17cc domes 135psi on fresh topend. too low?
dajogejr replied to craptorkiller's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
Just plexiglas, but you need to use a sealer of some type like grease, etc., so the water doesn't seep past. The Oring by itself will not seal it...you need something else. Unless you want to put a C Clamp against the dome and plexi.... -
17cc domes 135psi on fresh topend. too low?
dajogejr replied to craptorkiller's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
True. But what if he pulls them, they say 21 and cc out to 19...or they cc out at 17cc? Or...they have 17 stamped in them, but cc out to 21?? Often times...in haste, builders take a dome and re machine it, don't change the stamp on the side...and at this point, it is in his best interest to get the actual cc reading, not what is stamped on the side... This is a great learning exercise to not only understand how things work, but to also know how to measure something properly... -

True. But... A. He's fighting VERY low compression. SO....manually cc'ing the domes is necessary at this point B. Some domes aren't stamped, or stamped incorrectly... NEVER take stuff like that for granted. -

Take a piece of Plexiglas, drill a small hole in the center. Use grease, oil, etc.....seal the glass against the dome. Plug it with the spark plug. Use a syringe and fill the dome through the hole in the Plexiglas until it is full...see how much water it takes to fill the dome flat/even to the Plexiglas, that's how many cc's the dome is. Obviously, you have to use a syringe that is graduated in cc's. -
You're taking a non-powervalve engine with twin carbs setup and trying to tame the beast.... Banshees have been made and available in the US from 87 to last year, and they are still available elsewhere... If they were such a prominent machine for MX...all the pros would be using them. Until the 450s came out, they were all using 250Rs that were only made for 4 years and have been out of production for nearly 20 years....

True enough....

17cc domes 135psi on fresh topend. too low?

And a long rod piston would be in the neighborhood of .170....give or take depending on the base gasket thickness.... Good point....hope he's not running a head gasket in addition to the Orings. I think he needs to cc the domes for himself. What is the part number on tops of the pistons, that could solve the stroker/long rod piston dillema... -
450... Spend all you want on shocks, arms, tires, detuning the motor, etc. You're still left with a 20 YEAR OLD CHASSIS....

He wouldn't be at .055 squish if that was the case.... Stroker pistons would make his squish over 2mm big, long rod pistons 5mm or more larger... .055 is close to where he needs to be.
