  1. Look at your plugs and see if they are sopping wet. Going down in elevation requires higher jetting, but going back to stock airbox and foam filter might require you to go down 1 or 2 sizes from where you are now. The difference in airflow from dual K+N's to stock setup is tremendous. I second the K+n and proflow adapter, but you can get it dialed in if you want to leave it the way it is.
  2. Freak malfunction. No reasoning to the problem whatsoever.
  3. Definately good shit!
  4. If you have a stock crank though, you may be playing w/fire running that much compression and horsepower. Crank is the heart of your motor, I personally would build my motor around the crank, especially seeing how you already have it. I see rod's point, but I would be a little afraid the stocker wouldn't hold up.
  5. So what happens when you say it blows after 3 hrs, what do the pistons look like? http://www.mztech.fsnet.co.uk/workshop/wrk_piston.html This site may help you diagnose your problem a little better. Spark plugs and pistons are tell tale for reading problems such as yours.
  6. dll, Yes you can have spark and stator be bad. I am not guarenteeing this is your problem, but is very possible. Goku, I can't explain why it doesn't run ok in first and second then clears up. I can tell you you will probably foul plugs w/a week spark. If before this problem started your jetting was ok, I wouldn't think you would be extremely rich. I could see an all of a sudden lean condition on something if you sprung an airleak, but not suddenly rich.
  7. I think I would try what sredish suggested, but don't rule out the electrical. I have seen stators that are starting to fail give good readings. If it is electrical, these problems can be stressful. Good luck to ya!
  8. You will want to replace the seals also. The chance of you getting them off w/o damageing them is extremely slim. If it has never been removed it is going to take a lot of banging. Put your axle nut back on after you get the spindle off, and may want to use a block of wood if you don't want to ruin the stock axle. Then hammer away.
  9. Can I see pic of carbs, and do they come w/throttle cable?
  10. Jeff, do you have a website, or shall I just call you? Interested in some port work and parts. Doing a few inquiries.
  11. Have seen this problem before and ended up being either the stator or the coil(not the pickup coil). I don't know for sure cause which ever one started going bad first screwed up the other, ended up replacing both. It sounds like the same problem though. Once the electrics would heat up, only way to get it started was to push start it.
  12. Does anyone know exactly what causes ring siezures? Oil getting too hot gumming up ring landings?
  13. I recently experienced a ring siezure on the left side(Rings sticking in the ring landings killing compression). I didn't see this as a huge problem as I have ridden this top-end hard in the dunes for a year and a half. But a friend of mine has had this happen twice this year running the same oil in his wifes blaster(oil injection has been eliminated) Other people have ridden it, but she just mainly puts around. He told me he had inquired about the problem wl/a pretty reputable shop and they claim the oil is only good if you are running extremely hard to race applications and that is what is causeing the ring siezures. Does this make sense to anyone else? Has anyone else had problems w/Klotz Supertechniplate?
  14. The U shaped cutout at the bottom of the slide should face the back of the carb. And yes.
  15. If you go to the wrong place, they will happily take your money and send you on your way. Besides, if it's not the right bore size, you'll have to go back and spend more money.
  16. If everything simple checks out as led suggested, that is a good sign of low compression, also something to check is to make sure you didn't put the float bowls on wrong carbs if it has been happening since the last time you had them off. They are labeled 1-1 and 1-2. 1-1 needs to be on the choke side carb. Good luck, and welcome to the HQ.
  17. You may want to look into getting them ported while they are off, but like others have said, you can't just install a powervalve into a cylinder. Maybe someone in the world can, but this is not a normal service. You would have to be a hell of a fabricator, and would not be cost effective i'm sure.
  18. Leaving for Amsterdam 9/2, can't wait!
  19. Do you have the locknut from durablue, or are you using the stock setup? If you have the aftermarket axlenut, it is actually like unscrewing it to tighten it, if that makes any sense to you. But if you have up and down play, then you probably have bad bearings. All Balls makes good bearings. Just about anything you can get will be ok oin my experience.
  20. Thanks for all the suggestions guys, and thanks especially NEVER SATISFIED for the offer on the reeds. Did a compression test on that cylinder and it came back at 75 psi, 35 less than right side. Opened her up and found the rings were fused in the ring landings toward the exhaust side flush w/piston skirt . Bummed me out cause I am spending a week at Silver Lake starting this coming weekend. But the beauty is, I bought My girl a nice "R" for her birthday this year, so I still have a decent quad to ride. Guess I just won't be doing any drag raceing.
  21. I'll be there that weekend. Staying at Val-du, for anyone looking, the only way I could find the number was look up the Bikini Bar and ask them. Fried the rings on my Banshee last weekend, so I'll be riding my girls 250R. Is origional white plastic, will have duct tape on flag. Will be riding w/a blue and black Banshee, and A yellow and grey Warrior. Last I knew, Val-du had plenty of sites left, and they don't precharge for reservations. They just ask that you call back for cancellations.
  22. 17cc domes will be too much if you are around sea level. If you are 3000 ft or above, you can probably get away w/it. At sea level you will be lookong at around 200 psi, which means you definately have to run race fuel also. Porting will bring your compression down some, but I can't tell you to what, also depends on the porting, your builder should be able to help you w/that. Not too sure on the 2 into 1 setup.
