  1. Hell I forgot about needing the higher ones for asphalt. We run 77 RO 14 stg extremes. Gilbert is good so far. I won't clutter your thread. I may start a new one for what's going on there. We are 0.006 or something off the record with that bike.
  2. That's way tall gearing. What tires?
  3. 15 outback can work fine. A lot of LRE chassis are long. You won't get many passes out of a clutch with no lockup. Plus the spring would have to be so heavy you wouldn't 60 ft.
  4. I would stay with the 2.86 (or 2.82 or whatever Hinson is.) We ran a 3.67 @ 86 then 3.60 @ 88 outta the trailer on my 643cc. Way less tire than you've been using.
  5. I agree to adjust the air screw. You shouldn't need bigger pilots with that setup. Make damn sure the carbs are sync'd. That can cause that.
  6. The port timing is already good on most Cubs. Especially if you run Shearers. Calvin doesn't believe in high ports. Which is maybe why the builders widen them instead? Wide is better, but if it eats rings that sucks. Do you open up the triples instead?
  7. If those 60s were put with good mph that would very fast. Guessing the mph was not a lot (as it typically isn't with low 60s as you know). K & Ts triple ran 3.10 with a mid 1.1 60 at 100+ mph. On lots of spray. Was hoping to see your bike run at Gilbert. Good luck on the asphalt.
  8. 72 R/O 14 staggered. I have ran 76 R\O as well but went up a couple of teeth on the back I think. 3.5 psi max in either tire.
  9. I gotta cleaned up 421 and some ported 421s that run near identical times with my passion and RDZ 10 mil with a 25 lb heavier rider on the 10 mil. HP and TQ isn't necessarily the limiting factor on a Cub as far as e.t. I'm not proclaiming to know that limiting factor and don't have any secret setup.
  10. If you don't know what the peak hp rpm of your motor is there's no way to give suggestions. For example I have a 10 mil Cub with high port timing that I run 15/42 and another that I run 16/42 with the same tires. That's a pretty big difference. One revs out about 600 to 800 rpms more. The times are similar, but the higher revving one has ran it's best of 3.79 with me riding @185 lbs. similar best times with Jockeys @3.71, though I didn't make appropriate changes for the lighter riders. There is a way to figure out what rpms your motor is pulling at the traps. Just gear it a tad low to make sure it's wound tight, then use your trap mph, gearing, and roll out to calculate rpm. Of course it's approximate because the tires grow, and are spinning.
  11. Is the 1.18 on motor though? Again. I'm not starting an argument. Also, there was a year at Gilbert where the guard beams were off and I had some slips from then that show awesome 60s. I dont remember what year. Are you coming to Gilbert? I don't expect my 650 bike to be on its game. It used to be bigger and I had it debored to fit and having to run pistons with different pin height and new domes, the domes weren't cut to the builders specs, but it's too late now. Has yet to be even started on alky.
  12. Lots of spray on their big twin and I can agree with those numbers. I saw the first pass of the year at Gilbert back in 08 or so when it ran the 3.29 outta the trailer with lots of spray. . My dispute earlier was that it wouldn't on motor (and on gas). Even if it was not on spray, I don't want to start an argument. I'll be in Gilbert this time tommorrow.
  13. You cut back some of the housing on your cable and make it work.
  14. Don't use UPS!! I shipped some and "their" measurement was 1/2 inch more than mine and it cost me $75 MORE (a week later) than the 50 or so already spent. These were big, heavy ass tires. UPS pulls that crap every time I ship something.
  15. Have you ran it unported yet? The 421 doesn't need much.
  16. 1.29 is doable with that motor in a ridgid. I think our best is 1.32 or 1.31.
  17. NO one at the big sand races besides sn(h)omos and turbo bikes run them. Well, I actually do know 1 guy (David Stell) that runs a rev limiter. He just likes the consistency.
  18. Maybe for bracket racing or for a turbo. No advantage in heads up, imo.
  19. The Fattys like the 27.5 pilot. If your not running a lid, At least 340s with no lid if your gonna be running WOT in 6th any. Stock pilot is ok with Toomeys. If you can start it with no choke the pilots are at least big enough, if not too big. It may be lean on break in with stock pilots. And for damn sure with stock mains, if that's what you meant.
  20. Is it ported?
  21. Regardless of brand of carbs, 30 mm is too big. Too little velocity. I used to run OKO 30 mm on a stocker and had similar issues.
  22. Show a pic of the slides not going all the way down. Where did you get the cable? Do the slides go all the way down without the cable installed? Cable is probably too short. As for the overflowing issue, good luck.
