The Low Down On Port And Polishing
banshee04le replied to sshepherd03's topic in General Banshee Discussion
I think you are both right. I agree that the template diy port job would extract some power, but why not do it right the first time. I mean $100 for some templates or whatever...ive never seen them and then $25 worth of dremel bits, sanding drums etc... and then your time and labor. Sure you can say you did it yourself but you are not going to realize the gains that a true professional with the proper tools can achieve. For example, here are a couple of pics of the cylinders I just got back from Ritter Racing in St. Jacob, IL There is an art as well as a science. The templates may take care of some of the science, but there is no way that a do it your selfer is going to even come close to achieveing finished results like this without the proper ($1200) tools and EXPERIENCE. -
Too late. Wish me luck. I'll let you know how it goes but I'm riding tomorrow and I plan to get some sleep tonight. The dowel on the crank end is in place. It's the rear dowel that I left out. I don't think it's going anywhere but I guess I'll see. I'll split em again this winter at the latest.

Thats still funny as hell . -
Put one end in, but not too far...don't try to hit the groove yet. Hold it very tightly with your thumb and then take a small screwdriver and very carefully compress and work the other end in. Then use the screwdriver to slide it to the groove.

Spicy jerky, hot sun, bouncing around on the shee, cranky bowels and no mountain money....starting to make sense now? Yup, I get it now...except the part about no mountain money. Whats that mean? Since you said cranky bowels, all I can figure is that toilet paper is mountain money. If you was on a mountain with nothing but snow and rock and had to take a shit, TP would be pretty valuable. Am I right? -
Just got my cases bolted back together after having the crank welded and everything went well except for, after I finished, I found one of the 2 case alignment dowels laying on the bench. I don't think I have to worry about this...shes sealed up tight...soooo whatcha think?

Another vote here for spider crickets. They wig me out cause I know I would freak out if one of em jumped on me and I'm just not really sure what they are capable of. I don't really like roller coasters either...they make my stomach feel funny. I get on em so my girlfriend don't have to ride alone, and then I'd feel like a puss, but I don't like it at all. I'm scared of carnival rides too, but thats just because I know the toothless hoosiers that put that shit together are unquestionably incompetent. Lightening storms scare me...I run for cover, literally terrified sometimes, but I don't let it show -

Reynolds County around the Suttons Bluff riding area sells permits for riding some county roads according to this Link -
400 stock stroke setup for about $2200 is the smallest and cheapest. A dude runnin' that setup was spankin' everybody around here and he just recently sold it and spent about $4500 on the 535 10mm Cheetah and he says he dont have it dialed in just yet but it is not much quicker than his old 400.

A big ass floor mount like bench grinder type setup with a buffing wheel about 3' in diameter.
-
You can use a dremel buffing wheel, but your gonna be there a while.
-
Sandpaper and elbow grease is the main thing and then the biggest baddest buffing wheel you can find with a little polishing compound. The bigger the better on the buffer. Keep in mind that I don't know shit about buffing though .

Welcome to the hq. FMF recommends 260's but that is too lean for most setups. What is your elevation? What type of air filter are you running?

Has anyone heard of Ritter Cycle Racing? I'm having some port work done there. Its about 35 minutes from my house. Dudes name is Rick Ritter. Supposedly been around a long time. I met him and checked out his shop and its tight. We talked for about an hour while he kept wrenchin away. Nice guy. What scared me a little though is that he said that the girl who does the porting will start on them first thing in the morning...which is cool, girls are supposedly better with their hands at delicate crafts. But I asked about her, and Rick said he can do the porting and used to do it all but that she has been with him about one and a half years. He says she is an artist who lives in his town and that he met her when she carved some...carved something for him, I don't know...I didn't see it. I asked if she new anything about port mapping or a degree wheel and he said no, he has just kind of shown her, or shows her what needs to be removed and she goes to town . I asked him if my transfers would get much attention and he said not a whole lot, just a little clean up (going for full port, leaning toward drag). He said the exhaust port would be altered and the intakes opened up, but not as much as a lot of guys do. He showed me a lot of work there in the shop and it is some pretty work, but I want someone with a degree wheel and a calculator on the job. Long story short just wondering what you guys think and if anyone has heard of them. Heres their website Ritter Cycle

When you first took your bike over there, what had you guys agreed upon to be the compensation for his work?
-
Never mind. I moved it. Sorry.

I would say about 2hrs of ripping around hard on it or 4hrs of pussin around with trail breaks.
