  1. Its very good from Sept-Apr or so. After that Glamis and just about every decent riding spot in Cali gets too hot. Pretty much Pismo and Big Bear are your only 2 options, and both are pretty gay. Personally I like the dunes at Dumont better but there's a bigger riding area at Glamis. You can explore every inch of Dumont in a day whereas I'm still riding new territory in Glamis. Oh and don't pay attention to the stories. The public tends to only focus on several small incidents that occur there. Do rangers get stabbed? Once one did, several years ago. Is it just a non-stop party? Depends on where you camp. Usually when I go its with friends and their families so I'm asleep by 11pm. You can check out some vids of the party aspect of Glamis at www.glamisinfo.com
  2. Ya I just bought a 96. Its still new to me though, only thing I've torn apart is the front end. But I do have a clymers and there's really not that much to em'.
  3. My fav is Dumont followed by Glamis. Where are you in Cali?
  4. This thread is a close second to the 'stupidest thread ever' contest. First still goes to the "how do you kick start your shee". Sorry man, try again.
  5. About 800 feet. Jet for sea level. Prolly 280-300 mains.
  6. I just rebuilt mine from the ground up and it came out to about $2k including carbs, filters, reeds, cases, stroker crank, bore, cut head, clutch, clutch basket, seals, gaskets, shifter, chain/sprockets, water pump, cables, and a few other odds and ends. But the benefit is I basically have a better than new, very reliable engine.
  7. Your getting it ported to match the added stroke right? Also you should consider upgrading your carbs. Don't forget you need either a spacer plate or a machine shop to cut your head 2mm deeper as well.
  8. The only thing you need to start flying is a 9 volt battery for the radio. The charger is built into the radio so you just open up a hatch and pull out the charging cable for the heli, and then plug in the charging jack to the wall. Takes about 20-30 min to charge and you get about 3-4 min flight time stock (assuming you keep it flying the whole time). I did a few mods to mine so I'm getting about 5-6 min fly time..or was. My rotors have several repairs and are now out of balance. I think I'll just pick up a couple new sets of rotors since although I could balance them, all of my repairs are adding unwanted weight. Its pretty easy to fly. Fairly stable and slow moving. If you get within a couple feet of a wall or ceiling it gets sucked into it so watch out for that. Look on their website for repair tips as well as tweaks to fix trim. Even with the tweaks the trim tends to change during the flight so you'll have to constantly alter the trim lever. But hey its a toy, not a real model.
  9. Just picked up one of these helicopters: Blade Runner Its a toy so its far from perfect but it flies pretty good and is a buttload of fun to chase the ferrets and wife with For $70 you can't beat it. Next closest heli in price is $100 more.
  10. Ah sorry, I misread.
  11. That's the result of not doing pre-emptive maintenance and tightening your chain. It can happen to any chain driven engine. The yfz comes with a case saver but its fairly thin and would only hold up to most breakages. Several companies sell very beefy versions of the same thing that will protect the cases during even the most severe breaks. Anyway man, sorry for the bad luck.
  12. Your jetting shouldn't change or if it does it will be minor. Actually it would be due more to a different piston size (assuming you're boring as well). I would bump the mains up 1 or 2 sizes and see how it runs. You'll probably end up right back where you are now.
  13. Personally I think the FMF turbine cores look pretty decent but if you're not running fmf's then you might try installing some metal screen in your current silencers. Around here the rangers check by sticking a wire into your silencer. If it stops your legal, if it keeps going you get a ticket.
  14. I've ridden works, elkas, and TCS on sand and some elkas in the desert. Of the three I'd take the TCS hands down. They just float over anything you can throw at em. Plus Todd is super cool to deal with. As for LT...I wouldn't bother unless your changing to an outlaw frame as well.
  15. Is Trinity local to you? Personally I've been less than pleased with their customer service. On that basis alone I tend to avoid them unless there's no other option.
  16. Does this remind anybody of brokestonedbiker or any of the other aliases that tool went by?
  17. Unfortunately the stock baskets develop that play fairly quickly. Only solution is to get an aftermarket basket. It won't cause you too much grief though. Just change it out next time your doing some mods.
  18. Yup...ran outta money during the rebuild. Cyls are going out for porting in June.
  19. What's your elevation and do you have any timing advance?
  20. Right now I've just got: A Seniorita (high wing trainer) that I did some bashing on to allow for a bigger engine and ailerons. A Something Extra with extensive modifications. I was trying to turn it into a 3d plane but the engine I got didn't live up to the hype. Plane was designed for a .46, its got a ported .60 in it now...thinking I might put in either a .72 or a .91. I built it for a massive engine so it should handle either. A tiny ass ME-109. It was a cheap ARF and I had the .15 engine laying around anyway. It needs some work though...I sorta got a booboo on the tail section last time it flew. As for heli's...I can fly em ok on the sim, don't wanna get a real one tho cuz those things are money pits. UPDATE: Paul you inspired me. Just got back from buying a Magnum .91 - Hehehe...this thing is huge!
  21. Spend about $200 and get this program: RealFlight Fly the heli's on there and you'll get a pretty good idea. I've taught quite a few people how to fly planes on that program before letting them fly real RC's. Its incredibly realistic. Also they have everything from beginner helis up to full 3d ones to try out (read: crash).
  22. I'd def. try dropping a tooth. What tires are you running?
  23. Could be an airleak. What do your plugs look like? Similar thing happened to a friend of mine, but he melted a hole in the top of his piston.
  24. Generally when an engine dies very quickly while riding its an electrical issue. Happened to me when I landed a jump once. Tires hit the ground and it just bogged out, stopped and died. Turned out that one of the wires popped off of the coil. Took me about 30 seconds to figure it out and get her running again. I'd look at the wire connections first and see what you find.
  25. Just to offer an alternative...CLICK HERE I know a few people that run this style of head. Main benefit is that the domes cannot drift or twist inside the head. That said I will agree that Noss has some great customer service.
